bhs7695 got a reaction from BlueRazor in Graham vs Richlands
I think Graham has more overall talent and Cooke sould be a game changer for Graham. Richlands has a strong line and ran their slant plays pretty well when I saw them. Better than anyone else has against Bluefield. Graham needs their linebackers to play well underneath to contain that and they should be ok.
I still believe that the Graham QB is more athletic and will make more plays than the Richlands QB. QB play coupled with Cooke should be the formula that Graham needs to win by two TDs.
Still, with heated rivals so many different things can happen. Richlands has a lot of pride and they never quit while Graham will play with confidence and a chip on their shoulder.

It was a great win for Bluefield no doubt. They seem to be getting better each week and at the right time. If they can keep healthy and focused for these next three games they'll be in prime position to make a championship run. The line play has been better than I've seen in the last several years. Cooper is doing a pretty good job of managing the games.

Cooper looks pretty good throwing downfield. Mookie dropped one that hit his hands would have been a TD and the other one that went to Mookie he caught in the third quarter for a 51 yard TD. Both throws were very good and right where they needed to be.

So the losing team is allowed to play 48 minutes but the winning team is not? I get it now. Bluefield's 9th graders have to take a knee while Graham's starters go deep.

For the past 23 years, I've seen more Bluefield games than Graham games. Freddie isn't afraid to score a ton of points, but many times, most of those points scored later in blowouts are by the 2nd/3rd teamers. When he puts them in, he continues to call his regular offense...and against weaker teams, yes, even the back-ups are as good or better than the starters on the weaker team. However, if/when they do score in a blowout, 9 times out of 10, Freddie has them take a knee on the PAT. The only time I've ever seen him keep the starters in long after they should have been done for the night is during the playoffs and/or if he has an axe to grind (see Wyoming East) and against some rivals.

Respect goes both ways my friends. In 2013 when Graham was getting pounded they left their starters in against Bluefield's last team. Coach Williams did not ever honor Bluefield's sportsmanship by removing his starters. Graham starters scored three TD's in the last 3:37 against Bluefield's 9th and 10th graders. All TD passes and went for 2 after each one even though Bluefield took a knee on the XP after their 9th grader scored. Then coach Williams gets on TV and states how proud he is to drop 38 points on Bluefield. Next year coach Simon did not remove his starters and put up 76. Neither should have happened but you have to tell both sides.
In 2002 Wyoming East was pissed that one of their starters got thrown out of the game on what was a wrong decision. Bluefield 9th and 10th graders kept scoring in the third quarter. These players were so good that they played in 4 straight championship games. Kevin Grogg was so frustrated that he decided to implement the rule that allows you to kick to other team when THEY score. Bluefield 9th and 10th graders ran the basic offense and continued to score while coach Grogg pouted.
Same can be said for the 2004 championship game vs Wayne. When Bluefield removed starters in the 3rd Quarter Wayne continued to throw long bombs and kick on side kicks. Bluefield put back in the starters and let them play. In the 4th quarters the back ups were allowed to play. But again, Wayne did not honor Bluefield removing their starters by removing theirs. They continued to throw deep and kick onside against Bluefield's 2nd team.
Before you go throwing stones put on your big boy pants and look in the mirror.

I can assure that Bluefield's players talk way too much trash too and it isn't because the coaches approve. It is what kids see and copy. Coach Palmer does not approve either and tries to prevent it but you have social media to deal with these days and it is hard to keep young men from doing what they want.

bhs7695 got a reaction from Bulldogs52 in Time to grow up a little.
I've been concussed several times from imitating wrestling moves on the bed when I was a kid and falling off of said bed, soccer game collisions, "backyard" football collisions, nighttime hide and go seek collisions, and lastly getting up in the middle of the night drunk to take a piss and the next thing I remember is lying in the bathroom floor with a knot on my head.

Didn't list my drunk concussions as I wasn't really certain they were concussions or just days long hangovers...

bhs7695 reacted to Bluefield researcher in Should changes should be made to the high school game?
Here are a few rule changes that I would like to see.
First is not a rule change at all. But simply call intention fouls what they are. Especially at the end of the game.
Change the rule that if a player intentionally throws the ball off of another player on out of bounds the ball goes to the team that did not throw the ball.
No time out can be awarded if a player has picked up his dribble. NONE.
No ten second reset on dead ball in the back court unless the ball is kicked,
Move three point line back at least a foot.
Get rid of the arrow and go back to jump ball.
Not in favor of a shot clock unless it in 50 seconds or more, Also difficult enough to find competent score board operator (Princeton) would be even tougher to get competent shot clock operator. I've done this job at college and it's not always as easy as it looks.
Allow all players that have not fouled out an extra foul every two OT periods.
-
bhs7695 reacted to GMan in Should changes should be made to the high school game?
Yeh, with a shot clock, you would have scores like 29-24 and both teams shooting about 18% from the field...yeh, that makes for excitement right there...
