  1. Whydo I love it? Because my wife hates football.
  2. Eugene, Have not read anything informative yet but as stated earlier coal isn't going away anytime soon. However with cap and trade and the projected restrictions placed on the coal industry by the EPA what you could see here are power rate increases that are not affordable. Boucher did in fact vote for C&T and while he worked to water it down for the coal industry it will in time cripple it. I've found some things on Griffith that may provide some insight. http://www.richmondsunlight.com/legislator/hmgriffith/ shows a few of the things that he has worked on. http://dela.state.va.us/dela/MemBios.nsf/cd9a628e9659025d85256c2900524ab1/776e98aea7644ee5852570d2005e9e6a?OpenDocument His bio that again lists things that he has worked on or with. Dig more when you have time and make your own decisions. My hope is that you are still in college working toward greater goals.
  3. Its my understanding that Matt had some medical issues that prohibited him from passing the physical.
  4. I think BucFan nailed it. Boucher has had 28 years to influence some positive changes in our area. With that being said please respond with the Significant positive changes that Boucher has been a part of. I know of some things but I have not been the most active person in local politics and have the same questions as others. I have met and spoken with Griffith and was impressed with his views but really have not had the time to do any background work on him. So please feel free to give what info you have on him also.
  5. Gonna have to go with Lockhart. Lockhart displayed what a talented QB is is while he played at Tazewell. With minimal coaching (at Tazewell) he grew into one of the better QB's in the area. Being at Richlands simply gives him the oppurtunity to play with and for some very talented individuals.
  6. I have'nt had the oppurtunity to watch Marion this year either but have watched Graham twice. Graham will walk in on 10/15/2010 (Tazewell) WINLESS and if they dont find a way to patch up the defense they may walk out winless.
  7. Not to get of the subject but: Hey UVAObserver great choice the hoos made for the HC job. I watched most of the USC game and found myself truly impressed with the FIRE from the Cav players. I will be following UVA this year to see if the new attitude maintains. Wishing you guys a good year!
  8. It will be much tougher to run up the middle on Richlands this year. They have a very solid interior and a great Linebacking corp.
  9. Its no real secret. There have been talks of a 2 High School System in Tazewell County for sometime. And the school on the chopping block is Tazewell. I dont think it will happen anytime soon but it will happen.
  10. Guys if you take 2 bullets out of a six shot pistol its still dangerous. Even if the Johnsons move elsewhere the Blues will be a hard package for any opponent to handle.
  11. There is absolutely nothing "FREE" concerning the benefits extended to members of our armed forces. During times of relative peace, when our service members were not called on often, these were benefits granted with little action. Now however, I can assure you and anyone else with this idiotic view, that every benefit is earned many times over. I cannot find one reason to support this piece of legislation.
  12. I take a stand of indifference on the wind mills. If they go in they go in and if not that’s fine with me also. I know that either way it has little personal effect on me. The point here is that this small “victory†is based on an ordinance that as mentioned before may have legitimate legal ramifications, thus leaving the county and its citizens at the mercy of a court ruling. When I have had discussions on the issue of devalued property no one considers that the owners of the land of interest have suffered a loss. Also consider that this ruling may have impacted the desire of other industries to move into our area. Like many others that live in this region, I cherish our mountains and streams and all that they offer. But I also know that we must balance this with a desire to make our area attractive to business. The benefit of allowing BP/DOM a presence here would have shown other industries that Tazewell County is willing to embrace such. No one will argue the efficiency of windmills or the energy impact that they would have on this area. I think that those who have made an effort to educate themselves on windmills are in agreement on these subjects. The big picture is that we have thrown away another opportunity to embrace some industry other than coal.
  13. This is far from over. BP/Dominion did not approach this with blind faith that the county would welcome them with open arms. What I foresee happening now is a long drawn out legal process that will favor BP/Dom. If this happens, the county and its residents will lose both the ridge lines of east river, and the initial monetary input. Either way it was an ignorant decision by the Board. We have to seek new industry in this area. The argument for coal is really a mute one considering that coal cannot be replaced as an energy source in the near future. This ordinance is in fact “spot zoning†and I’m sure it will be ruled as such giving BP/Dom more control than they were asking for in the first place. In my opinion, this was a rushed judgment that will come back to haunt this county.

  15. Anyone who has served (in either peace time or during combat operations) knows and understands the need for a truly disciplined military force. One may equate or interpret such policies and actions to maintain this standard in many ways. Is it a “socialist†system? Perhaps. Is it a communist system? Maybe. Your lack of an explanation lends a hint of disingenuousness to your comparison. Without a clear explanation from you, I can only assume that the social doctrines that you refer to are the privileges that are extended to those that serve. This, sir, is an honored tradition dating back to the conception of the American fighting force. We simply provide such things to those that are willing to take up arms in defense of this great nation. To attempt to extend these same privileges to the civilian sector would greatly diminish the desire to serve. If, on the other hand, you refer to the doctrines by which we train our service members and high levels of discipline and commitment that such citizens are held to, you need look no further than those fighting forces that we have faced in recent years. Most have lacked the discipline necessary to sustain. Most have digressed into unruly mobs that adhere to no standard of respect for human life. Define the Military in any way you desire, but understand that to inject the same operational doctrines used in our military onto the civilian population would likely result in revolt and civil war.
  16. "Scientific messengers are not well received here" "Trying to Educate" Are you then, willing to accept scientific data that “disproves†this “hypothesis
  17. Great, and while we're at it we can provide monthly paychecks to all the track and field, tennis, soccer (etc. etc.) players. Thats one reason you cant provide money to college athletes. Another would be that a good portion of scholarship students also struggle with personal finances during college years. Its to big of a worm can to open.
  18. 21(and counting) years of active/reserve time. 10 deployments and few complaints.
  19. He's viewed it from a perspective that gives him a little insight
  20. Things like this do happen frequently. This instance has simply gotten alot of attention. With all of the renovations and care given to the stadium recently I cerainly understand the anger. But the reality is that the damages will be paid for, the kid(s) involved are not "evil", and it will have no impact on the rest of the season. To much attention is mt opinion.
  21. Best of luck to you guys. Lebanon fields a decent defense and the offense is capable of scoring in bunches.
  22. Will he be back in the cleats Friday?
  23. If what I witnessed Friday against the Dogs can be used as an indicator, then I have to think that Lebanon wins this one easily. What happened to Marion's rushing attack? I know that they were missing a key component in the backfield and the Dogs shocked me with a stellar performance from the Defense. I was expecting to see more from Marion with the rushing offense.
  24. I belive that the players still want to play and win. I also belive that Wyatt has little interest in coaching these days. The loss to Graham did come down to coaching. Any coach that watches film would have recognized that the dogs cant stop the run. If you seal off the middle and attack the edges with the run you have a great chance to beat Tazewell. Run the fullback once in a while and then look for a middle screen.
  25. That was perfect!!!!!
