  1. Here in Charlotte, it costs middle school kids $50 to play each sport and high school kids $100 unless they qualify for free or reduced lunch. They don't charge anything to attend middle school games down here either. I think that even charging $1 can help with certain costs. Some of these games be packed.
  2. Those were our gray pants with the cardinal and gold stripes.
  3. If we can get guys to the ball on defense we'll be pretty damn good.
  4. Phenom Hoop Report is supposedly the top source for basketball exposure in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. It's run by Rick Lewis. A lot of the names you'll see from the Virginia list will be from private schools or prep schools throughout the state. They get the rankings from watching kids play at their camps as well as AAU tournaments and who they see play during the school year. They spend more time during the actual season watching holiday tournaments so that they may be able to critique more players at one time.
  5. I'll add 3 more to Graham's list. The '91 and '92 losses to Bluefield 6-4 and 20-14 in OT. Also the 7-6 loss at Salem in '93. That '91 loss at Radford was difficult because of the 5 interceptions that were thrown. Chris Hairston absolutely killed us on those slant routes.
  6. I'm looking into having an annual hoop tournament for ages 13-18 beginning in July in Bluefield and I was wondering if you guys could help with getting contacts for all of the local high school coaches. I want to invite high school JV and varsity teams as well as AAU teams. This could be good for the kids and all involved if I can work this out and make it happen. Thanks in advance for your help.
  7. Congrats to North Meck and my former players for winning the championship game of the Arby's Classic!! Good job fellas. Proud of you all.
  8. I applied for the Boy's Basketball position but they filled it real quick.
  9. I figured some of you Bluefield guys wold appreciate this. Maybe they can start a series instead of playing the private schools down here. • At North Mecklenburg, Brad Baker replaces retiring Mike Bradley. It’s the first head coaching job for Baker, who has been an assistant coach for 12 seasons. He wants to build a huge family atmosphere. Baker once played fullback at Division II Concord (W.Va.). “I want to know what’s going on in (the players’) lives,†he said. “I want to know that their grandma is sick or that they’re doing well in algebra. Obviously, wins are important. They have a scoreboard in the stadium for a reason – but telling these kids that you truly care about them is just as important.†Read more here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/07/29/3415566/5-new-mecklenburg-coaches-build.html#storylink=cpy
  10. Times have really changed. There is no way that tranferring to Bluefield, Tazewell, or Richlands would have been an option in my household. We played to represent our town, school, neighborhood, and our parents name. The rule was an unspoken one. If you don't want to work you don't play. This whole sense of entitlement from people these days makes me sick. We had to EARN the right to wear the uniform and the G-Star on the helmets. If they don't want to be there let them leave!!! Not all players like or love their coaches but they should respect them.
  11. Does anyone know of any "good" AAU tournaments coming up? I have an 8th grade team and I would like for them to play up at a 9th grade or 10th grade level.
  12. I don't want to add fuel to this fire but that was not my brother that you see running across the field yelling. It was however an unfortunate event and the coaches may have over reacted but they were really defending their kids from what had happened 3 or 4 times with the Narrows kids blasting away at the kids before the ball was snapped. The whole thing could have been avoided but as you can see it wasn't. For you to say he should give up coaching these kids is your opinion and I respect that but if you talk to the kids and the parents they will let you know how much he cares for each and every one of those kids.
  13. Congrats Jordan, welcome to the club(s)!!! 1000 points and SWD POY. No matter what folks say be proud of your accomplishments and of how you played the game and represented your family and Graham High School.
  14. Tony is still coaching and very optimistic about the season. Hopefully the kids that move up from JV can make some progress on the varsity level.
  15. I'll join the dynasty. Crossthatrax is my tag.
  16. I'm glad my man Waylon got the chance to coach @ his school. He's a stand up type of guy and was a heck of a player. I got the chance to know him during our time @ BSC and wish my friend nothing but the best in raising his cattle.
  17. When you look back at those teams, I'm willing to bet you had alot of local talent. The team that we had that ended up winning the conference tourn. We only had 3 guys that were not from the area and 1 of those 3 was originally from McDowell Co. We also had 3 coaches and a trainer that made the road trips.
  18. Being that I played for BSC I tend to take up for some things. Not having a dorm is killing the programs. I know that there weren't any dorms back when we were some what good but there are also no local kids good enough to make the program turn around. The ones that are leave town and I don't blame them. If there is any kid in the area that could help the team please let me know. Other than Craig I dont see one and I hope he finds a place real soon. Also BSC only pays for tuition. The fees and books are not included in the athletic scholarships. That included with not getting a good meal on a regular basis has a lot to do with how things are turning out. 1 more thing and I might be quiet. LOL!!! Neither of these coaches has legitimate help!!! With no assistants how good are you supposed to be? How can the recruiting be done? High schools have better systems in place than my beloved BSC and that's bad.
  19. Big win for us!! Confidence booster after getting killed over in Princeton. Craig is a BEAST with the ball. He's the best player around right now but he needs some help. Oh'yeah, I forgot you gotta play with what the parents send you!!!
  20. Graham's '90 team was a hell of a team. Back to back state champs had it not been for the loss of Roland and Dave to injuries in the playoffs. Dave was arguably the best OLB I've seen along with Mike Jude.
  21. Yes. He had around 290 that night, with 3 LONG td's. The next year I dont think he got 100 on us.
  22. Parker was in the 8th grade then. He graduated with us in '94. Our soph year '91 is when he ran wild on us.
