I looked into this and Gate City does have their backs to the wall in this with the limitations. I'm glad the band and cheerleaders got to be a part of this season.
Gate City decided not to go with this policy. When I asked about it I was told Gate City isn't in that region. That is what the principal told the school board member I talked to.
That seems to be the trouble with a lot of kids. Parents don't get involved enough to make them see things out. I really believe when a kid starts a sport they need to see it through. I see it all too often though.
I'll go ahead and say it. Akers was never given full control of the team. I know it's not a popular belief but it is true. He would make decisions only to be told by a couple higher ups it would not happen. I saw some of it first hand. I'm really hoping it don't happen with Jeremy. All I do know now is it will take time.
After hearing about GC beating Richlands, I was not expecting this win so easily. GW moved the ball at will most of the night.
GC played a near perfect game against Richlands. The next week played a pretty good game against Abingdon. Then came South and the dam broke. Nothing but mistakes. Turnovers and penalties have been the norm since playing South. They put together a decent 2nd half against Union. When they play mistake free they can play with most anyone on their schedule. Defense hasn't been any good all season. The type of offense they run will put them far behind with turnovers and penalties. Those mistakes need to be addressed.
Moving said rb from the line back to fullback was the best decision Jeremy has made. No way he needs to be at OG. Jeremy has my full support in anything he does. As does most GC fans. It's a long way back to being the GC of old and will not happen over night. But I believe it will happen in the future. It just takes time.
I think most of the brewhaha on social media is coming from females probably relatives of players 😂 The moral.of the story, Mamas don't let your babies grow to be football players (if noise bothers them or you) 😂
I'm just being a butthole. I don't do it often. lol
Week 1 was a pleasant surprise. A long way to go though. Still need to get the numbers up in little league. Also need to keep those talented kids interested passed little league. I see some really talented kids quit between little league and 8th grade.
Sometimes these first games aren't real litmus tests. I think Gate City is improved, but I just can't make sense of them playing toe to toe with Hurly for 2 quarters then turning around and beating Richlands without some help some where. Not taking away from either team, but it is easy to fall into the "if team A beats team B, then team B should beat team C" trap. I told someone yesterday that this GC beating Richlands may be just the tip of the iceberg in surprise outcomes this year.
Because Hurley was a scrimmage and Richlands was a game. Never put much stock into a scrimmage or jamboree.
People put too much stock into scrimmages and Jamborees. I've seen teams struggle with other teams in Jamborees only to spank them later in the season. You don't win preseason games. You go into them to find what weaknesses you need to work on. Real game Hurley could beat Gate City handily or vise versa.
I was told today that GC has mid 30's if so they are in for a long season!
I've heard 27 and heard 33. Cancelled the blue and white game to not have an added chance of injuries. I had also heard they cancelled it to stay off the field but Little League will be playing on it this evening.
Scoreboard looks good, turf looks horrible. Hopefully they don't practice on it and give the grass more time to grow. I'm always amazed at how run down they let high school facilities get before they do work to them. The bleachers in those pics don't look like they've been pressure washed in over 10 years.
The first pic is of a guy pressure washing the home side bleachers. lol
