the biggest downfall for abingdon going into this tournament is coach brown,  he just cant coach,  should have been canned 3 years ago,  when abingdon plays together and team ball they are the best team by far but they get into the individual stuff and it brings them back to the other teams levels,  he just cant coach,  he has been lucky to have been fed the talent he has had,  coach frazier and coach dotson would have won 2 state championships with the talent abingdon has had over past 4 years

When was Reed's best year at Abingdon?? The year they played Lord Botetourt. Who called his offense that year?? Who came with him when he first got the Abingdon job? What was the difference in Reed at Wise Central and Reed at Abingdon....NICK COLOBRO!!! People who know, know why Abingdon was successful and they know why Reed started his decline at Abingdon, they also know why Luke Owens went 6-4 the year after Reed left at Central.... think about it!

That is laughable.  Sorry but there isn't a snowballs chance that Abingdon finishes this season 8-2 this year doing the same thing we did last season.  Let alone winning games against Union and Ridgeview and being the 3 seed to host a playoff game.  And before you say something to the effect I don't know..  My son is a senior and I've been around the program long enough to know.

You can argue logistics about the enrollment forever and not change each other's minds.  I will say that the biggest advantage of Abingdon playing in the local 2A district is $$$ for all the schools programs.  Abingdon travels as well as any other team in southwest Virginia.  The football programs are the cash cow for each schools booster's and athletic funds.  In the past, the main rivalries for Abingdon were with Richlands, Battle and VA High.  Now, in only a couple seasons, we have seen new rivalries come out.  The Ridgeview home game had the biggest overall attendance of the season at Abingdon.  The Union game at Big Stone had a very sizable crowd on both sides even though it was nasty and being televised which would tempt many to stay home and watch.  When 3A schools come to Abingdon, they seldom bring any fans with them.  That is one of the great things about small town football, when you have a rivalry game that is where everyone wants to be.

This entire thread has me belly laughing. So when AHS loses to a 2A team they are wine and cheesers....but when they beat 2A teams they are too big and tough?  LMAO.

I'm not sure that we can hang with Richlands, but I'm curious how we will do against a team like them.

Would you rather get rid of him and be lucky to go 6-4, 7-3 every year?!? Mance has his flaws, but Jesus Christ, give me a break. He's the entire reason we are who we are.

This had to have been one of the best games I've watched in quite some time. Definitely happy my Falcons won but Richlands is a good football team. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season and playoffs.

Very well stated Razor......exactly the way i feel and my reason for not joining in on this conversation......until now.  I said in another thread about this that I wasn't going to argue with anybody about this anymore because it does exactly what they want,  it gets under our skin,  so it's best to just let it go.   We can't win because if we respond,  then they always come back and say,  Don't be so sensitive,  or I'm not judging, or what ever so best to just let it and keep on kicking butt !
Kids will continue to want to come here as long as we are the flavor of the month and have a stable well run program with the fan base and facilities we have so this will continue into the foreseeable future.  There will come a time when we are not the favored program around here and somebody else will be and the kids will stop wanting to come here and will go to the next flavor of the month.  That's the way it was, is and always will be.

Well guys,  I've had a close relative of mine just passed suddenly of a massive heart attack at a young age  ( 57 )  in Montgomery Ala and I will be driving down there this evening.   She was a 1st cousin of mine but we were raised together while her dad served in the war in the 60's so we were more like brother and sister.   I will probably be gone for about a week so I probably wont be posting on here until I get back.
Please keep our family in your prayers !
Safe travels to everyone to and from the games,   it's at times like this that you realize just how unimportant some things are in life and how important other things should be......like family !

"Red-shirting" is a soapbox issue for me.  My daughter is the youngest fifth grader in the Galax City Public School System.  She certainly was not that in kindergarten.  Most of the kids she started kindergarten with have been held back if they weren't started a year late to begin with for future athletic purposes.  It is a ridiculous practice that affects the academic achievement of some kids.  We are starting to learn the long term affects of this practice through studies being done at institutions like Princeton, Harvard and Stanford.  I disagree with holding kids back wholeheartedly!

Kids who aren't stimulated and challenged tend to lose critical thinking skills.  Passive brag from a proud dad but the youngest fifth grader in the entire school system made perfect scores on all three of her SOL's this spring.  SOL's will do nothing to help my daughter get into college but it is the system we have.

Simply put, if parents expectations of their kids academic achievements were as focused as their expectations of their kids athletic achievements, we wouldn't need SOL's or any other government enforced educational system.

    Sorry, rant over!

Not trying to stir the pot but the Abingdon kid who played in Florida, started off in Abingdon, went to Florida and back to Abingdon.  At least one poster on this forum went above and beyond normal call of duty to try to help this kid.....and not in ways that pertained to football....rather in a way to try to help someone who really needed a break in the game of life.
