Are you saying that schools shouldn't use "volunteers"?

These days there are more volunteers than ever. The amount of teachers willing to coach sports is in a decline. It is getting harder and harder for Head Coaches to bring in coaches because they don't have the luxury of teaching positions for them. It isn't like it was 20 years ago where you can just hire a coach and get them a teaching job at most places. I would bet that nearly every sport in Tazewell County has at least one "volunteer" on staff. Those "volunteers" also have to go through the same background checks and drug testing policies that a teacher does.

If this guy did what he is accused of, he carries the entire responsibility of his actions. How the "heads" handled it after the fact is on them.

That's the beauty of wrestling, you don't have to be a great athlete to be successful. Hard work and a strong mentality are the keys to success. If you get those things combined with athleticism, then you have something special, as in every sport. But those guys that are too small or too slow, can really benefit from wrestling. I've seen it first hand.

Yes, both Tazewell and Richlands have youth programs in the past.  They were quite good, but had fallen off over the years.  It is great that both are actively involved again.  It has been my experience with youth wrestling that many come out, but the number that stick with it dwindle as they grow older.  Too many distractions and competing sports.  Wrestlers are a different breed, tough, driven, and hard nosed.  Some kids don't like the the one on one competition or how physical the sport can be and drop out.  The ones that stick are there for the long haul.  Wrestling is not easy.  Like the T-Shirt says:  "Wrestling is not easy.  If it was, everybody would be doing it".

It's not that Tazewell is doing things their own way.  You have to do things legally and the job has to be posted for a certain amount of time.  It also has to be posted on the statewide data base...  Interviews have to take place with a Committee and then they will narrow it down from there.  The days of picking somebody and sticking them in a job are long gone, that's a good set up for a law suit.  Everybody just needs to be patient.

Interviews will begin after Christmas Break. In the meantime, I'm sure the assistants are having them lift weights and condition.

Heck, if a parent is that concerned....take them to the dang Community Center or the Y for Goodness sake..

Off season conditioning started the week after Thanksgiving last year. The weight room is open already now, with coaches in there supervising.

They haven't done any interviews yet. Nobody has been hired yet, told they were going to be hired or anything of the sort.  Deadline to apply is December 19th.  Interviews will be conducted after Christmas break.

Colobro would be great for Tazewell and it would be nice for him, if he were able to move close to his dad.  It would be hard to imagine a more qualified person or better fit for the Bulldogs, but you never know.....

As far as moving to Tazewell.... Tazewell is an awesome place, full of awesome people, no matter what some of the folks from the outside think.  The High School is awesome and it is full of awesome kids and they deserve nothing but the best in all areas, not just sports.

We have some special kids in this area folks, not sure how much you guys realize it, but after living in different areas..... it's not even close.

I will never forget seeing him. He looked like an NFL player at 17. A grown-a** man even then. :)

Nobody knows anything right now. The job will be posted and applications will be accepted and they will all be looked at.  After that, interviews will take place and then a recommendation will be made.  Anything by anybody right now is pure speculation.

I really hope it's not the Middle School Coach. He has done a great job with those young kids and that needs to continue. The football program needs to be started at the youth and middle school level and we need good coaches there as well.

Also, if he was to get the high school position, the expectations would be really high for him. Everyone would want him to duplicate the success he had with the Middle School team and if he had a couple of 2-8 seasons they would be ready to get rid of him. Sad situation in Tazewell right now. Harris is a good guy and I would hate to see him get ran off like most of the other coaches have been.

Our kicker was not doing good with his grades and can't play. Didn't have anything to do with his feelings.

Most of Tazewell's 8th grade team worked out with the high school kids during weight training and summer workouts. The coaches have been involved and worked with these kids quite a bit this year. They run the same type of offense as the high school and the program is finally building from the middle school up, so the future is bright.

I think these kids will stick together, it's one of the things they keep preaching. Stick together we can get it done!

You will see a heavy dose of these kids getting playing time next year as freshmen as well.

Patience is the key to getting Tazewell's program going and coach has it heading in the right direction.

Turnovers we be the deciding factor in this game.... Tazewell can score every series as long as they don't turn it over. If the D can make a few stops and force a turnover or two Dawgs win.... Should be a good close game.

I think Tazewell pulls one out. They have athletes and I keep saying at some point those same athletes will get things clicking on D. For some reason, I believe it will be this week.

Tazewell is hard to beat if they are in a close game, that offense can roll. I think the win last week inspires them.
