Homeschool kids do NOT count toward VHSL ADM figures!
-
Where to begin? I firmly believe Joe's quirkiness is an asset over 162 games. But when the season gets condensed into a short playoff series or a win-or-go-home situation, it becomes a distinct disadvantage. And it may cost him his job! Rumor is pretty high that Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are already speaking to Joe Girardi, Mark DeRosa and David Ross. In my opinion, David Ross is the ideal candidate if a change is made. Girardi doesn't fit the personnel of the club and DeRosa isn't Ross to the current Cubs clubhouse.
When Dave Martinez left the Cubs following last season to become the manager of the Nats, Joe demanded taking that opportunity to hire "his guys" to surround him as coaches. He brought in Chili Davis and Jim Hickey. As a result, the batting and pitching statistics tanked from previous seasons. As another Cub fan said last night, "Boston fired Chili Davis last season, look at how their offense responded this season!"

You tend to troll under certain conditions on Preps or at least blindly follow others who do. I certainly hope your intentions are above board here. You may get to meet Ryan if they aren’t. This thread has the potential to go off the rails very quickly.
Richlands used cleats deemed too long by VHSL to beat Salem in 1992. I believe they were 3/4 inch cleats. I have heard Salem wore the same cleats but that part gets conveniently forgotten.

Coaches and AD's can't increase funding and number of volunteers to make rural rescue and fire departments possible. They are overwhelmed as it is and they volunteer to do it.
Not directed toward anyone in-particular but if you're not volunteering to go into a situation everyone else is running away from, you should probably not complain about those who do!

I noticed him as well. Seemed to be stalking as if he were looking for someone to engage.

This is a problem almost everywhere and with a number of different sports. Galax has had a handful of serious issues over the past 5 years. Fortunately (or unfortunately), none have been caught on video for the world to see. It's only a matter of time before that happens though. When it does, I hope the videos go viral. These incidents have to stop and those who insist on acting a fool like this need to be kept far away from youth sports!
The Galax Recreating Department refuses to acknowledge they have a problem. These "coaches" keep "coaching" while incidents continue to pile up. Maybe our new police chief will step in and something will get done. The old police chief was worthless!

Northside is without a doubt, the best I’ve seen to this point this season.
Holy Hell they are big, fast, strong and talented!

Frankly, it's not very easy being a Cubs fan at the moment. Limping into the postseason with a team .211 batting average in September. Joe Maddon wanted to revamp the coaching staff last offseason in favor of "his guys". He replaced the hitting coaches and pitching coaches. Both units have gotten considerably worse this season. Team ERA is up by a run and a half while giving up more homeruns than any previous Cubs team. The team batting average has dipped 40 points with team homerun totals dropping by well over 60. Javy Baez is the only player with numbers at or above previous seasons.
Maddon may have wanted to put together his own staff but it might have cost him his job. It should, at a minimum, cost the hitting and pitching coaches theirs!

The Nats have baffled the imagination for about 6 seasons now. They have gotten less out of more than any other professional sports organization over that time period. Several instances of dugout scuffles going back several years. Someone who has been around baseball at the highest levels for most of his adult life told me when the Nats shut down Strasburg in the middle of a pennant race, "they are teaching that young man how to not compete."
-
I have to admit, they were fairly impressive against Galax and Grayson. It wasn't the same product Carroll has put on the field over the past decade. They are deficient in a few areas but Turner will develop those positions over time. But they compete!
-
A bit off topic but I didn't deem it worthy of a new thread.
I was told something over the weekend by someone I have known since childhood that I can't wrap my mind around and certainly don't believe. I can't find proof to support either side of the argument. I was hoping someone on here would have some definitive rebuttal. It made it's way yo that other board so, I thought I would seek clarification here.
He stated, if a kid enters 9th grade and leaves the public school system in favor of home-school, the school system must count that student until that students class graduates from high school. I get the school system would likely be required to count this student for the remainder of the 9th grade school year, but surely not an additional 3 more years!?!?!

Northside has an impressive resume so far this season. With wins over Pulaski, Salem and Lord Botetourt, they may be a bit too much for Galax.

Not that I’m aware of. Over the summer Grayson and three other schools across the state petitioned VHSL to change classifications for the next cycle. Three were unanimously approved while Grayson was rejected by a vote of 0-22-1.
-
How will Grayson's drop to Class 1 for the 2019-2020 school year affect Fort Chiswell? Will Fort Chiswell be content remaining in the MED as the only Class 2 member of an all Class 1 district?
-
The whole SWD mess was just that, a mess. But I believe this was always the desired outcome for Grayson. Even going back to them flirting with the SWD.
-
Like football, boys basketball will have years where the cupboard is full and will compete and possibly win, a state title. But they will have down years as well where they will make the playoffs and get slammed. Last season, the boys team was 22-4 against a Class 1 heavy schedule. They lost to Union 51-45 in the first round of the playoffs. I feel like they would have been a quarter-final team in Class 1 at worst.
Girls basketball hasn't been competitive for quite a few years now. They were 5-19 last season.
-
In football, they would have to be considered top 4 in 1C if we were discussing this season, wouldn't they? They will have a few down years like any other small school but I believe it makes them much more viable on a state level in a bunch of sports.
They should be considered one of the favorites year in and year out for a state title in baseball!
-
From what I have been told, VHSL didn't want Grayson to drop to 1D and were originally denied. Upon appeal, Grayson requested 1C and was approved.
Not sure why?!?!?
-
How do you come to this conclusion?
Grayson's current enrollment is 455!
