futbolking 766 Report Share Posted July 9, 2015 That's right folks, the old helmet is making a comeback!!! May not sound like much to some folks,....but as a die hard Graham fan, this is great news. G-Men pride making a come back..... I was not a fan of the new helmets....glad to have the old ones back!! The Yellow Face Mask is back also.. GHS89 77 Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 Not sure how I feel about it. But if it works for the players and staff, then it doesn't matter even a little bit what I think. I'll back them because of the character they hang the colors on. I only hope the change does not come from an "everything Wiiliams did was wrong" attitude. One, because that is not true. And two, that kind of spite would only hold the program back.

futbolking 766 Author Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 for the past couple of years they have been maroon with 2 yellow stripes, which tapered to a point.... Maroon face mask.
futbolking 766 Author Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 Here's the newer one. It's a nice looking helmet, but the uniforms and helmets look more like USC than Graham to me..... Just want to get back to the old traditional look, looking like "Graham"...there's a lot of tradition at the school. It's a very nice helmet, the unis are very nice as well....just don't look like Graham to me. But I'm an old man and things change, I would just like to see them go back to the old look. Here is Ahmad Bradshaw in the old school jersey.... more traditional Graham look from Graham's glory days. It'll be nice to just get the helmets back, I know a lot of folks raised a lot of money for those new unis, just like the old look better....The helmets just get stickers added..... I think Graham wants to return to the things that made them a special team back in the day, may as well go all in....maybe I'm asking for too much. futbolking 766 Author Report Share Posted July 11, 2015 Hey now. I was just giving an outside opinion. Lol. I know.... just think about this..... What if somebody came in and took over the team at Richlands.....decided to redesign the helmets and change the look of the uniform to a different shade of Blue.....and let's say....add a couple of stripes going down the pants legs.....and make them look like maybe UNC. It might look pretty sharp, but it wouldn't seem like Richlands. This probably bugs me more than most people, but at least I admit it. EH31 2,518 Report Share Posted July 11, 2015 I get what you're saying but with the Oregon uniform culture kids want to wear that Nike and look new. 90% of your players aren't going to care about tradition As long as they look good In an Instagram pic. What he said lol ^^^^^^ To me, nothing is off limits except the color. If a new coach wants new helmets with a new design, or a new jersey pattern, than that's fine. As long as the color isn't changed. But that's just me.
futbolking 766 Author Report Share Posted July 11, 2015 You guys are probably right. Most of the college teams now a days look different each time they play. And I agree about the color thing. Ryan4VT
dlaw 11 Report Share Posted July 11, 2015 Not sure when Richlands changed, but when my dad played there back in the 60s their blue was much lighter than today. I'm a Graham alum, and I like going back to the old helmets. That said, I just hope they decide to play some defense this year. futbolking
Ryan4VT 4,554 Report Share Posted July 11, 2015 I'd like to see Richlands bring back the silver bullet uni for a game. Maybe a home Tazewell game or something.
ThomasDenton 79 Report Share Posted July 11, 2015 How many different uniform combinations has John Battle gone through in the last decade? And I'm talking about color of the uniforms/helmets, logos, designs, etc. My senior year we wore what amounted to green and yellow practice jerseys (the short-tailed kind covered in small holes where you could see the pads through the material), white pants that fit worse than our practice pants, whatever socks you wanted to wear (or none), and a solid green helmet with two yellow tapered stripes (like USC). And older uniforms for away games since we couldn't afford two sets of new uniforms. The next year they had the same kind of jerseys, but they were black and tore really easily. At least Graham can use either of these designs and look good, lol.

TazCoFootball 40 Report Share Posted July 14, 2015 It's all depends on when you grew up to what you like, I for one like the Graham helmet with the 3 stripes but the kids today would say the same 20 years from now if they wore the new look helmet, the Graham helmet is my favorite helmet and the Tazewell helmet with the 3 stripes and power T with the bulldog they wore in the 80s is my fave from Tazewell designs
redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted July 14, 2015 I dont mind when schools/programs change designs or dominant colors(Haysi went from Blue/White with a little Red to Red/White with a little blue to Red/White) but I think it does a great disservice to the history of the program to change colors (Royal Blue to Navy, or adding Grey/Black when its not a school color). I know you older Graham guys like the G star (and I cant blame you, it looks GREAT!) but its more important that the kids have something they can get excited about. What if Graham kept the G but added a Dallas Cowboys style star? The kids might like the new style but it still represents the G-Man tradition. Look at what GW has done. Maroon and Grey at one time, all Maroon in the 2000s and now Maroon and Silver. The stylized GW looks GREAT and pays homage to the GW from years past. Kids want to look good! And the fans want tradition. The coach has to walk that line.
