Hurley vs PM

I believe I stated I was not a great fan of local football, in fact I live within walking distance of the "Cliff" and I have not attended not even one game.  So I don't know where observer came up with me being a fan !  Like I said before he should take his meds regularly !  As for the flag being a symbol of racism he should take a course in history, the Confederate battle flag is does not represent racism except in his own mind.  Observer can argue all he wants, after all seems I remember someone saying he was a lawyer and probably not a very good one either.

So you're not a fan of local football, you haven't attended a game this year but you get on a local football forum and run your mouth. To that I say.....Get a life.

This post makes the most sense if you imagine it being read in the voice of Slingblade.

I don't like seeing outsiders going after Hurley for the Confederate Flag cause it's such a tradition for the Hurley folks! But I wished some Hurley folks would stop trying to rewrite History about the Confederate Flag and it's origin. History has already told us what that flag represented in the 1800's and in the Jim Crow south in the early and mid 1900's for Dixiecrats. It's okay to respect heritage and the truth too!

When that place gets packed like it should be next week it's crazy. What's your take on the GW vs PM game next week?

I haven't seen GW but PM is pretty good. They were T with an occasional Wing in the first half and ran the FB a ton. A couple of HB dives and quick pitch once or twice. Second half they went to an offset I look with a wing and ran toss sweep with the QB leading and had some success before going back to the T and the FB. They drove the field and scored when they could have kneeled the ball and ran the clock out, FB had all the carries to pad his stats as he's approaching the state record for yards. As a team they were built well but weren't big. They were athletic but weren't fast. The HBs were capable but the FB is where it all begins and ends, he's big (my guess, 6' 230) and has good wheels but doesn't have breakaway speed. Their passing game was deeper pass plays when time was running out in the half and they were trying to score. TE seam would have been deadly but they don't run it(or didn't). They basically hit B gap all day long.

Defensively they were disciplined. Hurley was faster and made some plays but didn't break any huge TDs and their WRs couldn't get open deep, everything was short in the passing game. They did have a lot of players for a 1A school.

They really want to limit possessions, which they did well in the first half.

On a side note they ran a nifty FB off tackle play that I didn't get a good look at but would love to know how they blocked it. HB dove into A gap and the FB went B/C behind him with the ball. They had some success with it but only ran it a few times.

From everything I've seen GW will be a good bit bigger, faster, stronger and deeper. We dress 57 and play 23+ so we have everything we need to win this game. I agree PM has to control the clock and vall if they want a chance. GW can and will score from everywhere it'll be interesting to see how they deal with our size and depth. Plus contrary to popular belief GW is extremely physical.

You're absolutely correct in your assertion that I shouldn't have got on this forum, I don't attend any games but I do like the community in which I lived. When I heard some of the things that were being said about Hurley, I had to see if it was true, "well cut my legs off and call me shorty" "I'll be danged if it ain't true".  Observer, you only know what you've read, been told or dreamed about the Hurley community  !!  With that being said I'll leave "y'all" with a quote that was used by the Duke of Paducah, "I'm going to the wagon boys my shoes are killing me".  Observer, on your next visit to your doctor, tell him or her to change your meds as they're clearly not working !!

How did the flag come in to this?

I kinda like how everyone comes after Hurley about the flag...it might be one of, if not the last places in the country it's still flying high...it's gone from South Carolina, which I never thought they would cave and remove it...but, they did...then there is little old Hurley sitting over there with people trying to force them to make it go away, and they just give 'em the middle finger and move on lol...you have to love that.

God bless them, hope they don't ever change.

As far as the game goes, it happens, that's life...sometimes someone else is going to better on any given day. Hurley still had a great season, nothing to be down about at all..I know they wanted to win State and thought they had a legit shot at it...but in the end 11-1 is still a great season.

Congrats and see you guys next year at Grundy.

That particular flag is a monument to confirmation bias. If they don't ever change it will be an indictment of the state of the educational system there.

One question.. food for thought, the Stars and Stripes flew right after the civil war to commit near genocide on native Americans. Come on people, realize the educational system is rigged and teaches us, and points us in the direction it pleases. American flag has been flown in times that are just as bad as the confederate.

I suppose you'll be taking a knee with Colin Kaepernick? Do you make the same false analogy in support of people that fly the Swastika? Despite what you think, there were no redeeming principles behind the Confederacy's decision to secede. They did it explicitly to preserve slavery.

Taking a knee is his constitutional right (not American flag right) (don't agree) it's not a false analogy dude. Where is the redeeming principles of what the u.s. Did? Land reservations and casinos? You're an idiot for thinking otherwise. Now take your uneducated ass somewhere else.

I won't argue with what you're saying, because you're correct. The United States government has perpetuated horrible acts. But take a look at our current Constitution, Tell me which parts you find objectionable. This country, even with its flaws, has an ideal that is moral in purpose, being established with the goal of treating all equally and with fairness.

The Confederacy, like Nazi Germany, had no redeeming characteristics. Your comparison is a false analogy.

While our government has committed many deplorable acts against minorities in the past, our constitution has evolved over time. It has been designed to provide equal rights and equal protection under the law for all of our citizens. That's one hell of a redeeming characteristic. Pointing out Kaepernick's right to take a knee accentuates my point. If you don't like the principles on which our country is established, perhaps you should be the one to leave.

Btw, if you think you're more educated about the subject, perhaps we should compare our academic credentials.

This all started a few years back when someone told you that you should be offended by the confederate flag, before that no one cared...we all watched the Dukes of Hazzard, we looked at the old monuments in the Southern States, Hurley had it as a mascot, and no one really cared...at all...until you were convinced by the liberal politically correct factions that were left over from the Clinton years that it was a racist symbol...no one cared.

If you see it as a racist symbol, then that's fine...but just because you or anyone else is offended by it doesn't mean you have the right to tell an entire town that it's wrong when they've had the thing in place long before the media manipulated people in to thinking it was something offensive.

I hope they keep giving people the bird.

You're wrong about so many things in your post that I don't know where to start. It's late ..., and I'm sleepy ... so I'll address the bulk of what you said in the morning. I'm just curious ... would you defend the community in the same manner if they were flying a Swastika?

You seem to have a knack for being "right."  I am starting to see a pattern here.  You have to be a progressive....I am right, all who disagree are wrong!!  Your comment comparing the Confederacy to Nazis is ridiculous.  Plenty of Confederate dead in local cemeteries that died as Americans.  Most confederate soldiers were too poor to own slaves.

I'm sure there were a great many Germans that didn't want to exterminate the Jews also. That doesn't make the cause they were fighting for less evil. Please tell me what's so ridiculous about the comparison?

First of all, before you try to twist my post(s) and label me a bigot or racist, which I AM NOT, the right side won. The Nazis with Hitler were  close to world domination and the extermination of Jews.  Hitler was the aggressor and those were his goals.  The Southern states were defending state's rights, they were not trying to dominate the world or exterminate a specific race of people.  Germany had the means to accomplish their goals, the Confederacy did not.  By that, I am talking about their industrial advantages.  The Confederacy had no advantages, with the exception of Robert E. Lee, who was defending his home.

I hope you are not going to compare Jefferson Davis or Robert E. Lee to Adolph Hitler.
