That sounds more appropriate. I say flash some test scores up on that thing.

I don't think "scoreboard" is appropriate terminology for the "Outdoor Learning Facility for all GHS students." What about "Universal Student Achievement Tracking Display"?

City of Raven comes up with a tough one! It's the Wise County Fairgrounds, home of the Wise Indians. The school played here from 1948 and on before it closed and became JJ Kelly. The fairgrounds were used as a shooting location for Coal Miner's Daughter, as you can see in this short and funny/not funny scene. -

-This venue was used previously to host the occasional game, but it became this school's home field in 1947. -The place smells like a combination of cow sh** and corndogs -Tommy, Sissy, Beverly, and probably Levon were there in 1979. 1948 team -

I wish there were more pics of Vansant Park. I'm pretty sure my grandfather played some baseball there on a mine company team. -

My cousin George (Jr.) was on that team, as was United Coal co-founder H.A. Street and future Garden head coach Jack Rife. The team captain was Hurley's first coach, one Arthur Ratliff... later known as 'Smiley'. -
Yes, that's a good looking scoreboard. The sooner they get the lights installed, the better. They have locker rooms in the field house and in the gym, once the lights go up, all that will be needed is a place to sit...lol. Maybe some more generous donors will step up, like Hitachi Energy has. They have really supported the surrounding community. Those benches they donated area really nice too.

Scoreboard went up today.

SWVA Boy recognizes the former Giles Co school in the shadow of Angels Rest. It's War Memorial Stadium, former home of the Pearisburg Red Devils. Today it's used as a multi-use recreational field. It appears that some remnant of the old bleachers remain against the bank, but that's just a guess. - Yesterday

That Tazewell vs. Lebanon game was a wild game. 62-61 in favor of the Dogs was the final score. I agree. Lebanon is going to have to step up with the lineplay and tighten up on defense a bit. Graham should be the favored team for sure, big experienced line and too many athletes to get the ball to to count. The 2nd tier, I believe is Tazewell and Lebanon then V-High and Richlands. I think V-High and Richlands are both capable of beating 1 or more of those 2nd tier teams and could perhaps even come out ahead of those three, the "middle of the pack" for the SWD is very unpredictable for me, I guess we will see as the season goes on. Folks are saying that Richlands is making a lot of progress in the off-season. Marion will be at the bottom.

-This Va. HS opened its new stadium in 1947, but closed its doors in 1961. -Home of the Pyrustown Flushed Fiends -Stay seated in that spot until the photo is taken -
Dollar to a donut that if those boys go to an official camp they all measure 1-1.5” shorter. Lol. That is a very big OL…especially grouped together at a school. Tazewell always had huge OLs going back to the 80’s and Larry Perry.

You are correct. I should’ve mentioned defense instead of simply the lines. I can’t remember the score, but they gave up a ton of points to Tazewell. Again, I still think they should be very good. Graham is really the only team with the fewest holes. IF Tazewell’s offensive and defensive line are that much improved, it can cause problems. (I’m only speculating.)

Nobody will disagree about the caywood bros being gifts. Cooper and Self being young guys should have lots of kids showing up for both sports. Not sure if they will be competitive in Hogo or region this year. am curious about how big this transfer will disrupt plans for them. Anyone close know if it was a big loss?
