  2. The main concern about Redwine is his size, college scouts told a coaching friend of mine he needs to put on about twenty pounds just to take the pounding of game play, he can make all the throws and is a decent runner.

    Another to soon goodbye

Michael Watkins who was a member of the Virginia High School Bearcats football and baseball teams, graduating in 2016, tragically passed away Sunday morning July 23rd from an auto accident. My pastor, preached a message about our life which resonated deeply in my spirit. He ask the question, "What is your message"? Will your life be a story, few may tell, or will it be a message that you have lived and will impact others? Here we have two young lives gone to early, Brandon Looney and now Michael Watkins. From what I gather these young men left a message with their short lives. A message of dedication to their sport, goodness, goals to reach for and most of all a love for their Lord. I heard this song today and I thought how appropriate to share with their message. It is by Masters Voice and is entitled "How Long A Lifetime Is." This is a portion of the lyrics. "Never take the day for granted, cherish every memory No one knows for certain what the next tomorrow may bring So hold your love ones tightly, treat each moment as a gift Never know how long a lifetime is" REST WELL MICHAEL AND BRANDON

An athlete of this caliber comes around SWVA every once in a decade or more. Get out and see this young man while you still can. Should be Calvin Talford type crowds wherever Gate City plays this year.

  8. Cue my retort about it not being electronically timed or non-wind aided. Cue a second retort about how VT-measured times are historically very suspect and inaccurate to the point where other ACC member institutions joke about their recruits' 4.4 time being a 3.9 time in Blacksburg. Cue my disclaimer that this does not mean that both of these young men are not extremely fast human beings. Cue my further explanation that both of these young men are exceptional athletes, in particular Beck, whose state championship sprints put him among the best high school sprinters in the history of the VHSL. Nevertheless, cue my explanation that a legitimate 4.29 would put him sniffing a 10.00-flat in the 100m, which is world-class time, and would certainly all but end his football-playing days, as every major university and USTF would be beating his door down to come run 100m for them. Cue my conclusion that it is more likely that Beck ran in accordance with his 10.41 100m mark set this year, which would put him in the high 4.3 range. Cue my secondary conclusion that Cooke's likely time would be around the high 4.4 range if timed legitimately. Cue my final sentence, where I would implore the reader to read my second paragraph several more times before throwing shade or accusing me of hating.
