How many times over the past 8 seasons have we said ā€˜Riverheads run ends here. They canā€™t match up withā€¦..ā€?

Every single time, Riverheads does more than match up. They win more often than not. Lord Botetourt, Christiansburg, Stuartā€™s Draft, Central Woodstock, Poquoson, Glenvarā€¦ā€¦

At what point do we give them the credit they deserve and stop projecting with wishful thinking?

Bold take maybe but I donā€™t believe this game will be very close. Riverheads by more than two TDā€™s.Ā

Finally someone with some sense. I agree 100% with all of this. Great year for Radford, canā€™t take anything away from them, but end of the day RH is better and has been preparing for state games almost a decade, this week will be like any week this time of year for RH. In Radford itā€™ll be all kinds of commotion and people talking about this and that and what ifs. In RH itā€™s just practice as normal and greasing the wheels. Been there done that.

If today is the deadline for applications, when will the deadline for naming the HC occur??Ā  Probably not one, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

One would think they'd want to move pretty quick and actually name someone before school lets out for Christmas break. That would give the new person the opportunity to get some planning done over the break so when school starts back they can hit the weight room and other workouts with the new guys system laid out.Ā  Just depends if TCPS cares about any of that.

  3. Maybe someone should scrounge around and see what Mark Dixon is up to these days.Ā  I know he stepped down at Pulaski for heath concerns....maybe those have subsided and he's ready to rebuild somewhere like he did at Galax.Ā  Now that would obviously intel that people leave him alone, give him the keys to the car and get the heck out of the way.Ā  Just a thought, but heck who knows he may be on a beach somewhere enjoying his NFL pension.Ā  Ā Ā

  4. I'm not sure "quality 1A teams" are comparable to Radford, Glenvar, and Graham.Ā  Yes, they lost all 3 of those games, but not sure if beating Rye Cove, PH, and Holston are comparable.Ā  The one that stands out to me is giving up 51 points to Narrows; which Galax did gave up 56 to Radford....but once again Narrows doesn't quite compare to Radford.Ā  The game might be close till halftime or mid 3rd, but in the end I think Galax ground pounds the ball and pulls away.Ā  Galax=take snap, hand to RB, get down hill.Ā  HHS=get good shotgun snap while blocking a nose, all OL make a good block without holding, QB make the right read (probably under pressure), make a good throw, catch and secure the ball, get up field; that's a lot in 1 play.Ā  I know they've done it all season and done it well.Ā  However, this isnt a normal game and normal circumstances.Ā  Galax by 2 TDs.Ā

Any idea why most kids leave after 1 year??? Ā I think they could have a solid program if the kids stayedĀ

This is normal at pretty much everywhere.Ā  You take a kid whos been a "stud" at his high school and throw him in with 80-100, "studs" from their high school and the cream rises to the top very quickly.Ā  A majority of them cant handle that nor the 13-14 hour days of football for the school year and then the expectations of what you are supposed to do during the summer to show at camp in shape and ready to roll.Ā  Lastly, most cant handle college education, they don't know how to study and do work on their own.Ā  College professors don't care if you are a football player and have little to no time to do work or study; zero time management for a lot of freshman.Ā  A lot flunk out or quit school after 1 semester.Ā  My freshman class at E&H on day 1 was around 90 to 100 on senior day it was 18.Ā  Ā

UVA-Wise, Washington and Lee and Emory and Henry pursued my eldest, but it wasn't even close. Coach Grande and EH went out of their way to land him with everything from finances to housing. I hope that the next HC at UVAW is like this. I hate seeing them struggling:(

Coach Grande was a top notch guy, coached myself and older brother. He is currently at Iowa State doing big things with their coaching staff. Coached at E&H and Ferrum; tough lose for VA high school guys moving on to the next level.

  7. I agree with everything above, weak schedule....yes, won handedly.....also, yes, are they good....yes-ish.Ā  From what I've seen on film and in person is the QB is a very, very good athlete. He can make people look very silly and makes big plays in key situation.Ā  While he defiantly helps carry them and keep them moving forward, I would argue their defense is also very good.Ā  I wouldn't say they have a single "stud" on defense, but what they do have is balls to the wall aggression, every single play.Ā  All 11 guys fly around the football and play through the while, which in D1 is rare and causes a lot of issues for teams.Ā  They have adopted the defensive scheme to bring at least 1 or 2 more than you can block and try and stop you before you ever get going; and they do a dang good job of it.Ā  Tonight should be interesting though because Narrows spreads it out and gets rid of the ball quickly out in space.Ā  So if Bath rushes 6 or 7 on each play that means they better have some "sure" tackling when the pass is complete; one missed tackle and the WR could be gone.Ā  DO they change their defense this week because of Narrows style; I doubt it, its lead them this far, but I do think Narrows will have a lot of success throwing the ball.Ā  I also think Baths QB will make some big plays as Narrows defense isn't the greatest.Ā  I also, think playing at home for Bath is another advantage; its a long bus ride to the top of the mountain no matter where your coming from.Ā  In the end however, I see Narrows making a couple stops and winning the game by a score or 2.Ā  Ā

Completely understandable where youā€™re coming from. However, he canā€™t really show out when we canā€™t get the defense off the field. He still has around 850 yards despite being on the sideline for most of the game

Oh dang that is some legit numbers thru 4 games; much respect to the young man as I think some people where saying he needed to move schools or maybe focus on baseball.Ā  Dude is obviously still coming out and showing out even though the score isn't necessarily reflecting it.Ā  I hope he stays healthy and continues on his great season.

  9. Lebanon-I have not seen them in person but several games on NFHS.Ā  All the talk about the QB being the best on that end of the state I think was a little over hyped now that they are 1-3 and 2 of the loses have been by 20+.Ā  In all my years if a kid is head and shoulders better than most everyone they play then he can do a lot on his own.Ā  I understand there's 11 on the field but at their level one really good player can make some big plays and keep the games somewhat close.Ā  I may be in the wrong but for what I was reading before the season I would've thought they'd be 3-1 or 4-0.Ā Ā

  10. If true, that's a lot of interest in a program that hasn't finished a season in 2 years and very little activity at the younger levels.Ā  With so many people applying at Auburn, maybe Bland needs to post their job again; if they can get half those applicants I would think that'd be worth it.Ā

  11. Umm home team has final decision on game date and time....not sure why they'd adjust their game for opponents because of some kids being sick. I know that would be good "sportsman ship" but each week teams have sickness and injuries and they make adjustments for what they have left and play the game. Unfortunate situation of course, but move a game because of it not a fan.Ā  No dog in this fight and dont care who wins, just too much softness going on the past few years.Ā Ā
