Who has the better chance of knocking off Richlands and winning the SWD? Graham or Marion?

bgibb reacted to Deleted Account in Tazewell at Bluefield
If a team keeps airing the ball out late in the 4th quarter with the score in the 60s and 70s, against multiple opponents, in multiple decades, I'm going to make the logical tiptoe that the coach takes happiness in running up the score on his opponents.
It's not a coincidence that Bluefield has a hard time finding opponents. Hint: it's not just because Bluefield is good.
I'd have a lot more respect for Bluefield's fans if they just owned it. "Yeah, Freddy really didn't need to score 86 on Wyoming East, or hang 70 in a state title game, or throw a last second TD pass on Graham to hang 76 on them and set an all-time scoring record against them." The complete inability for Bluefield's fans to achknowledge this decades-long "tradition" is just bizarre.

Most schools in SWVA would have the "best D in SWVA" if they'd played Auburn, Bland Co., and Montcalm...

I also didn't see any "trash talk" at the Beaver game. I believe this whole thing about Graham trash talking has been blown way out of proportion. Last year, before they would come out on to the field, they would be in a huddle and would chant a few times "come get some" then they would make their entrance. The only game I thought it got out of hand was the Richlands playoff game. With this being said, I am not a fan of this, but to classify it as trash talk and disrespect, and for it to be made such a big deal to some people blows my mind. This is football, there is going to be "trash talking" and I would bet my bottom dollar if Graham would have been losing last year instead of winning, not a word would have been said about there little pre game chant.
No disrespect meant to you stu_bean, but if you are worried about Graham trash talking and being disrespectful, you are in for a surprise when yall play the Beavers this year.

It is just known as Graham-Beaver or Beaver-Graham. Everyone knows what that means and nothing more needs to be said. For those that don't know the high school in Bluefield, WV (the castle behind McDonald's) was officially Beaver High School. In the early days of WV high schools most of the schools were named for the voting district they were located in. Believe it or not Princeton High was officially East River High because Princeton is in the East River voting district. Princeton dropped that in the 1920's. Bluefield's High was in the Beaver Pond district and was called Beaver Pond but shortened to Beaver before 1910. The "new" school in Bluefield was built on Cumberland Road and it opened in 1957. At that time the name was officially changed to Bluefield High. So you still hear most of the locals refer to Bluefield High as Beaver and therefore Beaver-Graham or Graham-Beaver instead of Bluefield-Graham. So yes until 1957 Bluefield was the Beaver High Beavers. But it was never referred to as that. When just the official name was used it was Beaver High and sometimes Beaver High of Bluefield. When just the mascot was used it was The Beavers. But when both were used it was always the Bluefield Beavers even though that was not technically correct.

For all that have been wondering, I just talked to a parent of one of the players and they assured me 100% that Reed will be starting and playing tomorrow. Very good news for the G-Men!

Graham played Glenvar this morning. I think final score was 28-7. Reed had a 60 yard TD on their first play. Taymon also had a 50 yard TD along with a pick 6. Allen had a 10 yard TD. This coming from Facebook post I saw.

When I played (01-04) the Graham game was as great a rivalry as Tazewell. Mr. Bradshaw made the first 3 years of that rough but they were still close, fun, competitive games.

Going to throw an odd but sentimental favorite into the mix. Old Fairfield Stadium in Huntington, WV. In addition to Marshall, I saw several WV high school playoff games there as a child in the 1970s. The place was a dump (to put it charitably), but I loved it. Probably as much because of fond memories associated with my dad and my uncles as anything else.

In my opinion, the best chance Graham had/has to beat Richlands was last year or this upcoming season. It will be very tough because this years game is at Richlands and I'm not hesitant in saying that Richlands has the best home field advantage in the area. It is almost impossible to leave Ernie Hicks stadium with a win. As far as UVA vs VT goes, UVA would be lucky to win a coin toss within the next 10 years.

Easy, Richlands loses to a TazCo team (Graham). UVA isn't even close to beating VT from a talent perspective.

That game was played on a Thursday solely because the Battle at Bristol was on that Saturday and that would have damaged the gate severely.

ME! Ha. I'm the new sports intern at WVVA from May-late July. If all goes well, you'll get to see my ugly mug all over your TV screens. I apologize in advance, and I'm not responsible for any damages that come from your screen busting when my face appears. Lmao.
In all seriousness, I'm very excited for this opportunity.

bgibb got a reaction from stu_bean in New Tazewell Football Coach
Until the parents at Tazewell realize that they aren't coaches from the stands and that it takes time to turn a program around, Tazewell will continue to have losing seasons. Tazewell does have a proud program and it has always impressed me how they could be 1-6 but their stands are still full every Friday night. I am a firm believer that this program does not need to be rebuilt, it needs to be restored. Good luck to Coach Harris, even as a Graham fan I would like to see Tazewell start having success again, just not against us haha
