I know both had a down season but Gate City losing to Ridgeview was a little surprising.

Even in a bad NET year, their floor is just barely below SWVAs ceiling. The biggest town in SWVA is Abingdon. The biggest schools in NET like Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett and Elizabethton and such are huge schools that double the biggest school on SWVA and probably triple and maybe quadruple the others. The enrollment gap is just too much for that game to be consistently competitive.

Rasnick should have been Defensive Back of the year. The most unstoppable force on Defense in the District imo.
 
The Ridgeview players are appropriate imo, although I think Ryan Turner had a much better year at Safety than RB. OL of the year was well earned by Wade Turner, the kid spent the year putting DTs and DEs on their backs. 

James Colley won somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 games at Haysi.

That's the reason I do not post a lot on here or preps. I've kept up with these sites for years, but some of my fellow alumni leave a bad taste in my mouth with their comments. Sometimes its just better to read threads. Lol

This will be the game I go to this week. Galax has been an incredible program over the past 5-6 years but have met their demise vs old Region D teams. JIB is very different than the teams Galax has faced from the coalfields in the past. 
 
Im looking forward to the battle in the trenches. Imo Galax will have the athletes to match up with JIB on the edges. One thing JIB doesnt have are big, strong backs to match up with Spurlin.  The Raiders have some speed/athleticism but no size except on the line.
 
Honestly ive hoped for the past 5-6 weeks that this game would happen and im really excited to see it.

I was told a story by a former player at Garden High School who played in a playoff game against Tom Turner's Appalachia.  Long story short.....Appalachia won by about sixty points.  At the end of the game, Turner says something like the following to Garden's Coach Roger Rife:  Sorry about running the score up a little, but your fans were barking at us when we got here.
 
No disrespect meant to Appalachia or Coach Turner,  I thought the story was funny as hell.  But it does seem to reinforce your "Give respect to get respect" strategy.
 
Also another story from I think the same game.  The person that told me these stories was also the punter for Garden, per him.  He said that Appalachia had them bottled up on 4th down and they were having very little success moving the football.  He was back to punt, received a bad snap and made the instant decision to run.......and made a first down.  He said that Coach Rife came trotting out to the huddle and said something like:  Good job men, run the same play. 

Glenvar and Radford would definitely be good. Central at Gate City may be a hard fought contest due to the stakes. Grundy at Ridgeview could be another one. Grundy needs a win to solidify a playoff spot.

Ridgeview probably wins this one, although I don't think they are good enough to blow anybody out. One interesting note to this will be transfers. One player has already left RV for Grundy and there are rumors a couple of others may follow. I think some of those decisions may have been made while Grundy was rolling against lesser competition while RV was reeling against a monster early schedule. Some of the players have taken it as kind of a slap in the face. It may add a little intensity to the game.

I know the school is new and the area where its at is just a rural community so most have no idea where it is.
 
Were all very proud of the school and what were trying to create. I just want everyone to have an enjoyable experience(other than leaving the Ridge with a L that is)

I'm sure the VHSL won't. Both priciples can get together as previously stated. Saw that last year, although one principal wouldn't agree.

#45 didnt have a great game running the ball against Rv. Ok but nothing special.
 
Rv was in a Stack-I formation(just to be clear, QB- FB-HB-TB) the Ref spotted the TB down, the HB had the ball and was across the goal line. The Wolfpack should have won by 5.
 
Every bit as bad as Union/Lee last year

I don't think there is anybody that doesn't respect GC. This was still a huge win for a struggling Ridgeview, especially after last weeks heartbreaker with Lee where a referee cost them a win by spotting the wrong player down. Play calling was much improved. Good step in the right direction.

I think that's a key. 6 turnovers against Lee, take those away and they beat Lee. Take the fumble in the endzone(terrible offensive call) away and they win.
 
Limit turnovers and improve blocking on the Lead play. If they do those things they will be competitive
