Simple solution would be to make a .500 or better record a prerequsite to be eligible for the playoffs.  If there are 16 slots to be filled and you only have 13 teams .500 or better, give the top 3 teams byes and go from there.  If you have 15, give the number one a bye. It's bad enough they let nearly everyone in..but requiring a non-losing record would at least make getting to the playoffs somewhat of an achievement.

I was in a group behind several high school golfers who were preparing for regional play a few weeks ago at Blue Ridge Country Club.  A young lady who has a talent for the game unfortunately has a complete tool for a father.  He was constantly yelling at her for every missed fairway, green or putt.  After several holes of arguing back and forth, she gave up and inserted her face into a cell phone and disconnected from everything else while he kept yelling at her.  
 
While walking off the tee box on #11, she pulled her phone out of her back pocket and walked face first into the cart her father was riding. 

I watched a girls basketball team walk into a restaurant about a year ago. Every single one of them were looking down at their phones and one girl literally walked into a street sign. That was hilarious but I started thinking how sad it was that these kids weren't interacting at all. Remembering how much fun my friends and I had going to eat after the game. How hard we laughed with each other. These kids don't even know that the best moments of their lives are passing them by while they look down.

You know, when a 3 win team is even in the discussion the playoff format is badly broken. Still want to beat Honaker.

A 9-1 Haysi team and the year before a 9-1 Honaker team. I can get on board with 8 instead if 4 because 4 means some of those incredible regular season match ups won't get rematches. In 03 and 04 Haysi and Honaker were really good teams and more than deserving of a playoff spot. I want to see those 1-2 loss teams with chips on their shoulders get their shot

If you want to destroy some good football schools, consolidate those schools into
One school. The football programs dies a slow death. Great facilities, but no good
Football.

I like having Regional Champions to represent at the state level.

The popcorn at Ridgeview sucks. They serve basically a half portion for a full price in a freaking McDonald's cup. Wise central selling water for 2.00 a bottle is insane (it was warm too). I refuse to give them another dime...ever. The bathrooms at Union are filthy. Disgusting. Funnel cake at Honaker is great. I miss Haysi. Go Wolfpack.

I remember waking up sitting on the bench beside coach Fuller, and I had already finished the concussion test. I told him that the test didn't mean anything, because I have it memorized from previous concussions. I told him thay I have one, because I didn't remember anything. To this moment, I only remember one play of the game. The doctors have told me I can't play anymore. I'd like to thank my coaches for everything they've done, for Honaker fans for making the game fun, and my teammates for giving me someone to fight for, and for being my brothers. Hurley has a solid program and does very well for a school of their size. Do they stay away from 2A schools? Of course and for good reason. This Rebel team is very good but if they graduate 7 starters then the next two teams might not be very good. Its literally year to year for these schools. Appy and JIB were brought up, remember both of those had enrollments well above 300 students in their glory days(JIB was  up around 325-350 in the 2000s) and Appy was just a powerhouse, no doubt about it. But those are 2 programs with dozens of examples of others of similar size that couldn't do that.  Does Hurleys schedule need to toughen up, obviously, part of that is their fault and part isint.
 
Failing to see how larger schools have a decided advantage over smaller schools is idiotic. The VHSL realizes this, as does every other state. If it was a non issues we wouldn't have classifications. Saying "you can only play 11 at a time" is ignorant at best. If you don't understand that then you don't understand high school football. That's not saying a 2A will always beat a 1a, its saying that chances are the larger school will come out on top.
 
Now on to the Rebel fans. Some are good people and understand football, some are hyper defensive of their school/team/community. Ive had my run ins with them on here before. Some of you need to cool it, youre doing the same thing you do almost every year(and ive said this before), you blow them up to be world beaters(on here and in real life) and then when they slip everyone talks trash about them.
 
 
And questioning Stripes integrity is bullshit, plain and simple. Hes a good dude.

Winning teams will always have a larger roster than losing teams and Hurley has had some good seasons since Coach Tester has taken over. I said earlier our enrollment hinders us from being able to compete with larger schools regularly, in such a way as if a school with larger enrollment numbers has 30-40 kids come out to play there is a greater chance that a higher percentage of those kids will be better athletes as opposed to a school with smaller enrollment numbers. Regardless of what your wife tells you, size does matter.

No earlier than 6th grade. I actually liked to wait till 7th or 8th. Early on is technique and strengthening the shoulder girdle and core. I taught my own kids technique early and they were strong early. It didn't effect anything with growth or injury, but I wouldn't advise just anybody to do that. Weight doesn't matter. Weight will come. Just my 2 cents.

Had one son graguate from Ridgeview last year and still have one playing so I try not to say too much....But my god we're hard to watch. It just seems like the Clintwood coaches who call the plays have no idea how to get the ball to an athlete out in space. This year is better than last year though, so I guess that's a positive. It just sucks watching RV play. The home games have no atmosphere, nobody cares. The only thing good about the away games is trying to find a decent place to eat while you're out. Shouldn't say this I guess but I did so there. (deep breath)

Well, Lee High did win this game last year on a Ridgeview TD that was called a stop at the one inch line.  So, you just never know.

If Ridgeview finds some lineman they could be ok. Otherwise it's gonna be a loooong year.

When you start basing things in high school athletics on "Who has the better shot" then you are missing the whole point of high school athletics.

Richlands isn't exactly bringing home hardware in December, either...
