Graham's 10 opponents are the same except for one as 2022. Bluefield, Tazewell, Richlands, Union, Galax. George Wythe, Va High, Lebanon (replaces Blacksburg), Pulaski County and Marion.
Bluefield and Graham have 3 home games that conflict. So there will be three games on Thursday. School officials at both are currently working tegether on that situation.
James Monroe decided not to play when they dropped to Single A. The honest truth is neither prefers to be playing each other at this time but circumstances beyond either's control say that they have to until other schools more in line with each school's enrollment decide to play. Sometime necessity is the mother of invention.
City of Richmond football players are finding their way onto the rosters of Dinwiddie and Highland Springs. As are baseball players at Cosby, Freeman, Glen Allen and Manchester. It's no different than the Carroll County and Grayson County kids that have come over to Galax to play sports over the past decade. Or the kids from Bland who play at Graham. It's not unreasonable to assume basketball players are coming into the city to play for John Marshall. I know for a fact, one of JM's current basketball stars lives in Chesterfield County. His dad owns a business there and they live in the apartment above.
That is why I said technically. We all know how easy it is to use fake addresses.
The city of Richmond's population is around 225,000. It is an independent city like Bristol and Radford. Technically anyone living in Henrico, Goochland or Chesterfield County would have to move into the Richmond City limits to go to John Marshall. Thomas Jefferson is now competitive in football because the City kids go there for football. Maggie Walker - soccer.
Because MT. View dropped them in the middle of the contract cycle when there was no chance to pick up a game without traveling 4+ hours, and they did that without even informing Tazewell. Not even close to being the same situation.
Tazewell fulfilled their contract with Bluefield. Each are free to pursue other games at the end of the contract. Just like any other contract.
Graham's schedule is complete. They have 10 games. Pick up Lebanon (back in the district) and lose Blacksburg. Dates are not set in stone as they have to work with Bluefield if both schools have home games the same weekend.
Bluefield is working on the schedule. They don't discuss who they are working with until the games are contracted. Open weeks are 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Only locked in games for 2023 are Graham, Princeton, Woodrow Wilson, Independence and Pikeview. Four of the five are home games so Bluefield would be open to travelling the first year of a contract. Bluefield has two contracts in the hands of possible opponents but they have not signed them as of yesterday.
Outside the area, but has some relevance that I will get around to explaining...
Liberty (Bedford) has quite the conundrum. Assigned to Division 2 next year but still stuck playing in the Seminole District -- where the Minutemen still aren't exactly competitive in football. Basically our brand new AD (in his first year at that level) will need to find three nondistrict opponents that we can beat -- and who are willing to play us -- who happen to be in classifications higher than Division 2. And even that might not be enough since I think the number of teams that will qualify in Region 2C is contracting next year.
So for those who wonder why/how teams with 3-7 records make the playoffs in Virginia.... Well, this is one source of that madness.
Why do they have to be higher than division 2 and why do they have to be "teams that we can beat"?
I realize Bluefield is a long haul but why would you replace a team of Bluefield’s caliber with VA High? No offense intended toward the Bearcats. Bluefield & VA High are no where near the same level.
Same reason Tazewell and Richlands dropped Bluefield.

Princeton played 9 games last year. Dropped Lord Botetourt and Bridgeport and picked up Tazewell, Pulaski and a 2nd game vs Greenbrier East
