Petersen is a much better passer in accuracy,  however he lacks the ability to scramble . LB gets killed on pass plays thats a major weakness for them. If appo can get D line and O line back we have a good to excellent shot at beating LB .

Not so sure about that.  Appomattox can be a handful for most any team WHEN they are at full strength.  Not sure if that will happen right now. If they can't get Lawing back thats a big hit for them.  Backup is a good athlete and a better passer in my opinion but you don't just take the 2A player of the year and replace him especially as good as he is on defense. 
If we can get back to full strength it should be a great game between us and Region C folks and even better if we get the chance to face Region D.

I'm sure he's a talented kid. But there's absolutely no way you replace a Tre Lawing and perform at same level. Not many kids start four years at QB and win multiple state titles. Lawing is special, very hard to replace special.  Pennix and the other back can help, but in the playoffs against a Draft or KW or Graham, you'll need a QB who can make play a ans every one knows what Lawing can do on both sides of ball  

If he's hurt, someone else could maybe win a state title.  If he's healthy, it's yours. Hope he's okay for his  sake. Kid is a gamer.

Yeah I'm sure LB gets it figured out at least some and is a good team by midseason. But if they aren't careful, they have two games against smaller schools that could beat them, you guys and Riverheads. I was sure LB would handle Riverheads before the season but now it looks like any other of my predictions, terribly wrong lol

I don't know Coach Smith either but it's obvious what a great guy he is just from the behavior of his kids.  Don't think I've ever seen a group of teenagers so well behaved.

I saw this somewhere else and considered bringing a foursome. Unfortunately, I can't anytime that weekend for reasons I'm not prepared to go into in this space yet. I certainly empathize with what Coach Smith is currently going through!!!
I don't know him personally but by all accounts, he's a better person than he is a coach. Given his abilities as a coach, that speaks volumes. Wishing him and this event, the very best going forward. 

If you're a golfer and would like to make a trip to Appomattox for a tee time on Sunday, August 1st they are having the "SMITH STRONG" golf tournament.  Friday and Saturday are already full but there are tee times available for Sunday.
If you aren't aware Appomattox Coach, Doug Smith was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma last year and missed being on the field during the 2020 season.  He has been through multiple radiation treatments, a stem cell transplant  while spending a month at Duke.  Bills for all of that and upcoming treatments are high as you can imagine.  They are doing to golf tournament to help raise money to offset costs.
All days offer 8:00 and 1:00 tee times that are shotgun starts.  The first two days are full but Sunday has a few spots left.  
If you would like to enter a team of four you can contact the Appomattox Raiders Football page on Face Book or reach out to me and I will get you a number to contact.  I think a team of four is around $250 and I believe there will be some pizza provided around lunch time. 
 
Sounds like Graham and Union (I know Union was young)  will be tough this upcoming year.  I hope the Raiders get the chance to play one of them on December 4th  (but hope it isn't in Big Stone Gap..LOL)   

Only two more months till semi-normal returns! I just want to be able to go to a game, grab a drink and a bag of popcorn and eat one of those terrible hot dogs at the stadium and wonder where the indegestion came from.

IMO this all started several years ago when the Richlands feeder program had several teams.  It's my understanding, (someone correct me if I'm wrong)the league management was made up of mostly coaches of teams themselves.  Those coaches begin to have the attitude of win at all cost, and begin closing some of the programs down to enhance their team by moving players from the closed down programs to benefit their team.  A group of concerned citizens in the Raven area even volunteered to finance the Raven program so it could remain open, and the league management closed it down anyway.  The feeder program is now down to two teams, and there are a lot of parents with potential players who are still upset with that decision and will not play in the feeder program.  The management has changed somewhat as I understand it, with those who made crucial decisions to close programs moving into assistant coaching positions at Richland high school and middle school, and the feeder program is now in a dismal state.  Why have only two teams stacked with many players, (with many not getting to play), when you could have several teams with less players, but more would get to play?  I voice my opinion, but many won't because of being ridiculed.  I'm and old fart that just has an opinion and don't think twice about stating the truth, I have nothing to gain, and my only loose it seeing the Richlands program suffer as a fan.
If I am wrong in my thinking, I will humbly apologize, but that's my opinion, and I believe we all have one.  Always and forever a Blues Fan.

I watched the Appomattox game , I thought for sure that it was going to be a repeat of the Union game , but boy oh boy those Cougars came back. Best State finals in a very long time. Congrats to DA Raiders and congrats to the Cougars for  battling back, you should be very proud
