When I worked for the Salem Sox while at VT, I wore a Richlands hat often. Once had a guy who looked to be in his 50s ask me if my hat was regulation length. I told him it happened 24 years ago and offered directions to the nearest Lowe’s so he could get supplies to build a bridge and get over it. He told me he hoped I crashed my car.

Not a fan at all of Salem fans.

Will kids be able to play both seasons or will transferring to WV forfeit spring eligibility in VA?

Will kids transferring to WV for football be eligible for other sports (Track, wresting, basketball, etc.) if they return to VA in the spring?

No, the VHSL’s going to prohibit border jumping.  You play in WV, you lose VA eligibility.

Wait, the expression is 'hail or high water'? Damn, I've been saying it wrong the entire time. WTF. I always thought 'come Hell or high water', it sounds the same but I always thought it was Hell, not hail lol

Nothing about this virus has been proven. There are, however, literally THOUSANDS of reported cases of permanently compromised respiratory and circulatory functioning in those who contracted even ‘mild’ cases.

It’s just not a smart move, IMO, to have two full seasons in a 10 months span.

You’re talking a month of practice in Feb. then a season that runs March to end of June or early July. Then turning right around and staring practice again for a season that would start in August and run into December.

That’s a lot of wear and tear on a kid. Basketball and baseball aren’t high contact like football. We’ve seen how beat and banged up these kids are after a season. I can’t imagine them being healthily and ready to go for a second season a few months later.

I think it would end up being two 7 game seasons or something like that to give a bigger buffer over the summer for them to get healthy and take a break.

The man made invaluable contributions to western civilization. The man sold his own children into slavery - but just the black ones. Idk how to reconcile those two things. I understand that the question you asked was rhetorical... maybe we just need a reboot.

Wow, you wrote that almost exactly 100% how I feel. I don't have all the answers, I feel like Jefferson was a great American....in some respects. In others, he was a piece of shit. Owning someone else as property, thru a modern lens, seems so outrageous, so horrendous, but in the context of society during the 1760s-1860s, it was perfectly acceptable in the culture.

Is Jefferson an incredibly important part of the birth of America and one of the most influential Americans of the Revolutionary era? Absolutely.
Did Jefferson participate in a system that was asinine and inhumane? Absolutely.
Should we teach Jefferson and laud his accomplishments? Absolutely.
Should we build statues and monuments to people who treated another human being in the same vein as a tractor or an axe? Absolutely not.
But what's the answer? I don't have it.
With Confederate monuments and the like, it's cut and dry to me. They fought against the federal government for the right to own slaves. When our country finally woke up and realized how terrible the practice was, these generals and Southern leaders decided to wage war bc the federal government said they couldn't expand slavery out west. It doesn't mean every single soldier who fought for the Confederacy was a bad person, most soldiers weren't slave owners IIRC, but it does mean they shouldn't be celebrated. Most statues of the Confederacy were built during pushes for civil rights, in the early 1900s and then the 1950s and 60s so it's obvious what the intent was there. So take them down, rename schools, etc.. (In a civilized manor. Mob justice is never the answer)
But founding fathers are a different, way more complex issue and as a society we should decide how to proceed.

It's PC to not have a school named after a Confederate general? Learn something every day. I'd bet the black students just loved saying they went to a school named after a general who fought for the right to keep their great great grandparents as property.

Without wandering too far into a political discussion, I also like the idea of honoring local folks who made a direct contribution to the community.  Much better than generic names referencing directional quadrants and/or landscape features IMO.

It’s not the kids. You're right. A youth is unlikely to get sick from this. But it’s not about them. It’s about the ones in the stands.

Mitchell Stadium will have 10k people in it for a high school game in 3 months. There will almost certainly be more than 1 person there who has the virus. The ones around them are then put at risk. They take it home and maybe go see their family on Saturday. Now they are exposed. And so on and so forth.

It’s not the kids that will make playing a sport hard to do. It’s having people in the stands. And without fans coming to the games, schools won’t and can’t play. Football pays for all other sports.

I would be shocked if they make it to week 3 of a season IF it even starts at this point. I hate it. I don’t like it. But that’s just the reality of what we are looking at. This virus is going to come back strong in a few months. We need to be ready.
