So, the Richlands people on the board, what say you?  Who was the better QB? Was this a Wally Pip situation?

I never saw Keen play, Cox was okay, but in my old opinion would have been a better lineman.  I do have to say he threw a pretty ball, and it is what it is.  Cox will play on the college level, but won't be QB in my opinion.  Maybe a tight end.

He was the backup QB and played on defense. But he had the worst luck ever with injuries and never really got a good shot to get consistent playing time. His biggest time (that I can remember) was in the Radford loss last spring.

But yes, he did sign with Ferrum and was recruited to play QB. He’s a great kid and I’m happy he’s going to get another shot to play after he missed most of his season season and will miss playing soccer this year because of the injury he got this season.

Thanks, and I too am very happy for this young man, and I'm glad he stuck it out, hope he does well.

  3. My understanding is that he is going as a QB.  Ferrum's coach talked about him being a dual threat at the position and seemed high on his ability.  Still doesn't clear up my thoughts, but maybe he was caught up in the covid fall when no football was played and only had a couple of games under center.  Hope he does good, and proud of him for his effort in getting signed, but it's still a head scratcher to me.

  4. With covid I must have missed more than I thought, and after all the last two years has been foggy to say the least. Saw where the Richlands QB (Riley Keen) signed with Ferrum.  Congrats to this young man, but for the sake of me, I thoght Cox was the QB for the last couple of years.  Did I miss a whole year or what, please someone inlighten me.  Once again, hat's off to this young man for signing.

  5. This is for all the marbles, and both teams have earned their way here, no gimmes.  Both teams will have to play their best to gain the win.  Wish the best for both teams and hope that the Gmen bring home the hardware, but guys you have to be ready for anything as both teams have the cabability and talent along with great coaches. Wishing a safe journey for all and good luck to both teams, Go GMEN!! (Hard for a true blue fan to say that, but I said it)

  6. Hats off to both teams in this one. IMO it was just Grahams time to win and someone from SWD to finaly beat Appo.  I think Appo has a great program and no doubt will continue to show up like a thorn in the playoffs against SWVA teams, but that's all good in my book.  Good game and wish the best for both teams moving forward.  As to the hoopla with the fans, it's normal to have a few that over react to these situations from both sides of the field, but you have to love the game.  Good luck to the Gmen going to Salem next week, hope you bring the hardware back to SWVA.

  7. Watched film on KW and they have some huge lineman, and their running back and quarterback have decent speed.  Grahams defense will have to come to play especially the linebackers.  As to their passing game, what I saw was the receivers out running the defense and the quarterback lobing the ball deep with the receiver running it down.  Don't think they will pull this off with Bradshaw out there, but the game will come down to the wire IMO.  I think Graham pulls this one out and comes back to SWVA with the hardware. Gmen 35----KW 28

Yea he told them to not play when Graham had the ball. Other than after a touchdown or first down that’s the time the band should be playing is when the opposing team has the ball.

Can a High school band be so loud that it disrupts a team on the field in Mitchell Stadium? I know it's possible with college bands in some stadiums, but I seriously doubt a high school band is that loud, especially in larger stadiums.  This comes from being in the Band back in the day and just hoping we were loud enough during the  halftime show for the fans in the bleachers to hear us.  I know it's common respect not to be playing when the opposing team is on offense, but the loud effect I don't buy.  Maybe only with two train horns blasting at one time. LOL

I love Applebees and Chile's.  Those two are my favorites and whenver I travel, it's one of those two.  I've probably ate at 20 different Applebee's over the last 20 years.  My wife love's it.  I've experiened perhaps 18 excellents and 1 pretty good and then there was the one in Bluefield.  The food was so bad, cold, poor service, the drink with very little ice and even the coke tasted off.  It was so bad that for a minute, my wife and I thought this might be a practical joke, and that the restaurant was setting us up for some kind of study or something, and surely would give us a 100 dollar gift card or free food for a period of time or something like that.  But no, it was no joke.  It was the real deal.  I'm amazed that place is still open.  I just can't imagine many locals going there other than for drinks.

Ate there one time many years ago and the only time the server smiled was when he handed me the check.  Worst food I ever ate in an Applebees, and the price seemed super high so I guess they saw me coming. LOL!

He did say this after the playoff game with Ridgeview(BHC)...

The game was the third between the two schools in just a little over seven months.

Ridgeview won all three with two of them going down to the wire.

“I was leaving after the first one. But I will be back next year,” Richlands coach Jeff Tarter said.

I've heard others say the same thing, and it would be good for the kids to have him back.  IMO there needs to be some changes in those around him, as in assistants, but Tarter is well repected and a good motivator for the program.  I think a lot of the Richlands fans have gotten spoiled over the years with their winning record, my self included, but I also understand that being a ture fan means sticking with the team through the lean years as well as the good years.  I think the program for the next few years will be competetive, but as talent seems to travel in cycles, it may be a while before we see a team in Richlands like those during the Mance years.  High School football is just fun to watch, and I came to the conclusion a long time ago that winning is good, but its not everything.  So I guess us Blues fans will just have to wait until next year to see what truly happens and if any of the rumors have any clout to them.

  11. At the departure of Wells last year or shortly thereafter, it was stated that Tarter would be the coach.  A little later it was also stated that Tarter would be HC for one year and then a new coach would be onboard.  Now rumors, being rumors, are going around that Tarter will be HC for at least 5 years.  Does anyone know if Richlands will have a new HC or will Tarter continue in that position?  I know it's a little early to bring it up, but just curious about the situation.

  12. Won't be at the game but I gotta pull for Gmen in this one, no offense to Appo folks, you guys have a great program, and my prayers are there for your Coach, but SWD sticks together.  Graham and Richlands are like two brothers, they can kick the stuffings out of each other, but they will also stand up for each other when another comes on the attack.  Wish all Appo fans good luck and safe travels, but G-men will rule in this one, and finally a SWD team will defeat Appo. (IMO)
