I'm pretty sure the vehicle length is prohibited on Walker Mountain. I'm not completely sure that a vehicle that long and isn't segmented can make the turns on the north side of the mountain.
We went across Clinch and through Tannersville a couple times when I was in high school, but it was usually 81/77/460 through Wytheville and Bluefield. On one occasion, the bus driver missed the turn at Broadford and we went across both Brushy and Clinch. Not a fun time.
Cowboy fans are opposite of the Brian Bosworth Dr. Pepper commercial. In the Dr. Pepper commercial, the fans turn on the team and the entire season after only the first play of the very first game, lol. It's the opposite for the Cowboys. Cowboys can come out in game one and get the ball first and the opening play, have a 12 yard gainer and you can bet many of people are already yapping, "were gonna win the damn SuperBowl this year boys."
That's currently my favorite commercial. I love it when the guy says, "I'm never watching football again!" as he torches a pile of jerseys and memorabilia LOL
The '71 Tennessee High Vikings went 12-0 and won the state championship. The '72 THS Vikings finished 13-0, repeated as state champs and were declared national champions by National Sports News Service.

I would not hold your breath on that one. Smyth county base teacher pay is lower than surrounding counties. You almost have to coach multiple sports to make up the difference
Agree 100%...I was just being sarcastic. It's extremely frustrating that Smyth keeps losing quality teachers/coaches to neighboring counties.

Take any man that that lived thru active combat from WWII and I will show you a successful high school coach.
Any idea if Harry Ragsdale served during WW II? I couldn't find anything to confirm it, but your records show he left after the fourth game in 1942 and didn't return until 1946.
It's a coach who believes that he is reinventing the wheel thing.
I've no idea if it's the source of the strategy, but it reminds me somewhat of Kevin Kelley at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, AR. He gained national attention after winning 9 state titles
using some unconventional methods (i.e. onside kick unless up by 21, rarely punt, go for 2 almost every time).
You realize Appalachia was a very good program before Turner took over, just like Powell Valley right? Did Riggs not build a solid enough tradition there? You’d think they prob wouldn’t name the stadium after a bum coach.
Riggs was exceptional, and Appy wasn't completely void of tradition. It certainly wasn't like Tom Turner took over St Paul, but the Dawgs had three coaches in seven years between JR and TT and the program had declined. But, no, the cupboard wasn't bare either. And while Appy had nothing on the level of TJ and JJ, they did have the likes Tr Turner, T Clark, Huff, Jessee, Mabe, etc
What keeps Phil Robbins from my top spot was his seeming inability to build a program. He had limited success at both John Battle (15-42-3) and Christiansburg (32-28-1). Tough places to win, but not impossible. Multiple coaches have since built winners at both schools. It wasn't until Bolling handed him the keys to the Cadillac did Robbins finally excel. But while he didn't build it, he deserves a ton of credit for sustaining the program at an elite level and winning those 7 titles.
I'm not certain of my final two SWVA Coaches Mt. Rushmore, but Turner and Robbins are no-brainers
Comparing Phil Robbins and Tom Turner is somewhat like comparing the careers of Jimmie Johnson at Hendrick (83 wins) and Dale Sr. at Childress (76 wins).
One is hired by a team already at the top with all the personnel and resources needed to succeed.
The other is hired by a relatively underfunded team with limited resources and will need to rely on talent, grit, and hard work to succeed.
Both are among the best ever and go on to have HOF careers. But which one is better? Should we ignore circumstances and simply choose the one with the best statistics?
I believe the schools are going to need to get some more money to the officiating group. I’ve heard numbers like they only get paid $100 for a varsity game. That’s ridiculous considering how far some of these guys probably have to drive. Like I said in an earlier post, the schools are getting what they’re paying for.
What are the coaching supplements Head and Assistants in most counties?
