Top photos are from Facebook by a cleanup crew in 2024
The bottom photo is by Rick Baker of Fourseasonsfootball.com, which I grayscaled and redacted the mascot name.
The stadium is famous for aerial attacks and mud

For those not familiar, Saltville was a company town. Olin-Mathieson Chemical owned, operated and/or funded most things in town, including the school system.
Olin built a new high school in 1957, and it was named for Olin Plant Manager, RB Worthy. After Olin left town in 1972, Smyth Co took over control of the school.

Show me a LL program that is locked in with the varsity HC and I'll show you a successful high school team.  The more active the varsity HC is with the LL program, the more success.  The more daddy ball can be eliminated or reduced the more long term success.

Die hard Blackhawks fan.  Go to Raleigh every time they're in town since 2016.  Had front row seats even with the O-zone dots for a couple years.  The 2nd year, buddy caught a puck in warm ups and in the 3rd, got tossed a game puck right before a face off right in front of us.  Hawks won in OT also, so that was a phenomenal day.  This past year, sat front row club level.  Got to talking to usher while waiting to play to stop so I could get back to my seat.  Usher was from Fancy Gap.  It is a small world.

I am one of few avid hockey fans in SWVA. Loyal to a fault for my sorry Philly Flyers. Being from Roanoke, I grew up watching the minor league Lancers, and my Roanoke Railyard Dawgs won the President's Cup last year:). I was hoarse for a week lol. NOTHING beats hockey as a fan in person, especially front row when you see folks get blasted against the boards and blood and teeth go flying.

One of my closest friends of mine, a current teacher at Giles, lived in Miami and also is a big hockey guy.  Said you could always tell when the Canadian teams, especially Leafs and Habs, were in town.  They would say it's cheaper to fly to Miami, get accommodations, tickets to the game, eat, other entertainment, and fly back than it would be for the group just to get in the door in Toronto or Montreal.

Coach Mabry's youtube channel is continuing to be updated with new games.  Added lately the 1986 Giles at Tazewell win for Giles, the 1994 final four game Narrows @ Appalachia, and the 1961 radio broadcast of Blacksburg at Narrows when the Virginia Tech radio team was brought in to cover the game.  Obviously New River District school focused but a lot of games involving Gate City, Abingdon, etc also.
