Yes weather could play a factor but now that we are in the era of artificial turf I am not sure how big a factor it would be.....I remember burton shacking in there boots at the thought of playing at Clintwood in the mud

Honestly looking at it from the other side RV gift wrapped a Central TD with a fumble inside there 5 yard line and gave up another at the end of the game after a hit out of bounds and the resulting 15 yard penalty both put Central in great field position and sucked the Life out of RV.
 
Make no mistake Centrals D played Great but RV was really lost on offence in the early season I would live to see a rematch but it will take a few upsets to make that happen

Realisticly winning 1 more game gives them a good shot winning 2 makes it a sure thing and winning out will most likely get them in the 9-12 spot

No the VHSL would allow them to play in a mixed district like Abingdon does now but they would be 3A come playoff time.
 
I had heard that the VHSL was looking at tweaking the alignment again (Possibly bringing back regions)

Youre right Counts but I think the kids are use to Hills athletic ability covering a lot of mistakes, theres an adjustment period and I hope it was last week

I think there was still a hangover from not having Hill on the field. This season is about getting comfortable with each other, getting better each week and making the playoffs imo. They have some tough games ahead, but if they improve each week they will be fine.

The QB we see this week is a step quicker and about 50lbs bigger than what we saw from Central Friday.
 
IMHO RV will need to limit the big runs by the QB and make them sustain a drive. 2nd they will need to have success on 2nd downs. vs Central We could move the ball when we kept 3 downs to 5 yards or less

I think that the Burton/Union matchup tomorrow may be a lot better than many seem to think.
 
From what I am hearing Union already has this game penciled in as 30+ point blow out with JV taking mop-up duty in the 2nd half
 
From the Burton Folks I am hearing that this it there best line in memory and should have speed at the skill positions that will bring back memory's of the Keys/Miles years.
 
This could be a trap game for the Bears if the Big Norton OL can limit Unions possessions and use there speed on D to put pressure on the Union QB (Who according to this board has been out of action in the teams first 2 preseason contests due to violation of a school/team rule?)
 
I think that the safe money is still on Union but Norton may put a good scare in the Union faithful

Central is only flying under the radar of those who don't know any better. Central is alot like Lee in that they just need to learn how to win the tight games. Look no further than there playoff game with the eventual state champion. Mullins is a fine QB and will keep alot of d-coordinators some sleepless nights.
 
I only got to see 3 of the Jamboree scrimmages
 
1) Hurley made Chilhowee look like a VERY BAD team going up by 3 scores before giving up a TD on a deep pass with what i have to assume was a busted coverage (No one was within 20 yards of the receiver) then Hurley came back to score there last TD going up 30-7 at the end of the 1st after that TD Hurley started pulling starters and Chilhowee scored on I think every position after that.
 
From what I saw Long year for Chilhowee,  Hurley will be a top 4 team in the West A but looks to not have alot of quality depth so an injury or 2 could torpedo there season
 
2) Central Made Tiwin Vally look Bad, At no time in the scrimmage did it look like anything other than a beatdown. Central probably had 300 plus yards rushing in the half There Line was knocking TV off the ball 6 and 7 yards and when the TV Defenders were able to catch the Central ball carriers they still were able to power out another 2 or 3 yards after contact. On Defence they looked just as good playing VERY strong on the edges and delivering some big hits.....
 
From what I saw TV will be at the bottom of the BDD this season and Central will be a tough out for ANYONE the only think I wonder about is there QB situation if the starter goes down as 15 took every snap even with the 2nd unit of backs
 
Ridgeview Looked good but left room for improvement. There Pass D looks good and there Run D looks great vs speed and outside/misdirection type runs but gave up some 8 and 9 yard runs to some of Hurley Power run plays. On offense RV scored on 2 out of 3 of its possessions with the other being an impressive goal line stand by Hurley. After that RV held Hurley to a Punt then scored on a 50 yard run then allowed hurley to get a nice drive from there 35 down to the RV (20 I think) before taking over on Downs and scoring on another long TD run after that RV played Subs and that lead to one over the more pleasant surprises i have had and that was our 2nd unit was not bad at all as they were able to move the ball and scored a TD (Depth is a nice thing to have)
 
From what I saw Hurley will not back down from a challenge but a few of there players will need to better keep themselves under control as there were several unsportsmen like penalties called on what seemed to be alot of Jawing after plays that really hurt there team.
RV needs to run between the Tackles better. And Make the easy Catch\Throw but other than that looked good

I think the best gameplan is to rush the passer and dont give him time to get down field!

I mean the kids, parents, coaches and fans of Ridgeview. Instead of being bitter about the closing of their schools they are seizing the opportunity before them

No judgment on how Ridgeview will be this season but as for compeating with AA Teams I would like to point out that since Union became a school Clintwood holds a better record against them than Richlands.
 
As to the future both Clintwood and haysi have some good young talent comeing up...so long as the coal econamey does not lead to another mass exodous of Dickenson County I look for them to be one of the top teams year in and year out.

Ridgeview/Union should be a great game (Union squeaked out a win over Clintwood last season Union looks to be better this year and there is no doubt that Ridgeview will be better than Clintwood was last season.)
 
Ridgeview/GC also one I am looking forward to Clintwood has not played GC in a while and when they were playing them did not have a great deal of success but there were lots of good games
 
Ridgeview/Paintsville Really looking forward to seeing how Ridgeview stacks up vs Pantvilles UK signee superstar
 
Ridgeview/Marion I have never seen a Marion game ever (One of the few local teams I can say that about)
 
RV/Lee Lee looked like world beaters starting out last season and adding GCs Stud Linebacker will do nothing but make them better
 
RV/Honaker - Should be specal for the Haysi kids and I look forward to getting to now be part of that rilvery
 
 
I hate throwing a record out there with no refrance to a teams returning starters But I think that I would be disapointed if Ridgeview does not finish at least 7-3 this season

I am in the camp of teaching a beginners version of the Offence that High School program runs and hammer in your bread and butter plays.only after getting those basics under there belt do you want to branch out your playbook (some groups of kids can handle a lot more than others). IMHO Teaching the line how to block instead of just hitting someone is the single best thing that you can do for your team followed closely by teaching your Running backs to run between the tackles.
 
 
 
On Defense your league can hamstring running your High Schools Defense so teach fundamentals (Tackling, Pursuit angles, ect.) When putting together your Defense remember Most youth coaches favorite play is get the ball to the fast kid and let him run around the end so put 2 of your better/faster defenders at DE or Outside LB (whichever your Defense assign contain responsibility to)

As for Clintwood vs Central I honistly think Clintwood is the better team IMHO if they were to replay there 3 losses right now they beat Union hands down and at the very least put the fear of God into Haysi and Honaker.
 
That being said Central will be the best team Clintwood have seen since Honaker while the 2nd half of Centrals season has been tough as nails which can eaither make a team Much tougher or wear them down both physacly and emotionaly
 
A win Over Central Gives Clintwood a home playoff game and quite possably sets them up for a 2nd round rematch with Haysi which would give Clintwood 1 more chance to get the final win of the series ;)

GC is tough year in and year out I have not watched them play ANY this season but I would expect that they are tough again this season however i get what Redtiger is saying There win over Richlands does not look as good at the end of the season after seeing Them get there nose bloodied several times this year and in the past wins over Union, Lee, and Abington would not have been anything to wright home about.
 
IMHO GC is without question a final 4 team in the west (8 in the state) they will PROBABLY get a home game vs Marion which will answer any lingering questions about GC
 
That being said it is tough to pick against GC at home
