I wouldnt mind seeing my Cowboys draft him in the later rounds. They need a power RB / versatile FB to fit their system. 4-5 carries a game and 8-12 snaps at Wing/H-Back/FB. Good developmental position for him imo

Reviving an old thread to say congratulations to this young man once again.  Saw a post from Craig Worrell on Twitter last night.  Lucas graduated from Liberty in 2-1/2 years and is currently in graduate school.  All while playing football.

    Impressive!

I think any coach who tries to limit kids by encouraging them to focus on one sport is incredibly selfish.  Players will be better overall athletes by using different muscle groups in different sports and fighting through adversity of a sport they arent as good at.

Bob Stoops in an article talking about his recruitment of DeMarco Murray.

DeMarco Murray was a 6-foot sophomore at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas when the football coach told the skinny running back he was about to steer Bob Stoops through the gym during a visit to recruit another player.
David White, the Bishop Gorman football coach, suggested a dunk by Murray might catch the eye of the Oklahoma football coach.
Several minutes later, on cue and in plain sight, Murray bounced a basketball off the floor, angled it off the wall so it could carom back over a side backboard. While the ball pin-balled, Murray exploded into the air, performed a 360-degree pirouette, extended his arms and slammed the ball through the basket.
“Tell that kid, he has a scholarship to Oklahoma.â€

Within the last year Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Bob Stoops and Jim Harbaugh have all said they prefer multi-sport athletes.

    Just sayin.......

As a neutral observer (and I dont officiate basketball) can Vermillion really be looked at as coming up small in big games?  I know they havent won it all, but to be honest he has ran some teams up to Richmond that didnt have a lot of actual basketball talent when you watch them.  Good athletes, but not basketball players. This group to me is young and probably has the most actual collection of basketball skill on a team he has coached.  It probably takes a pretty good coach to get kids to Richmond on mostly athletic ability.

I dont mean to slight past athletes on those teams but thats the way I viewed quite a few of them.  I thought many of those teams might have 1 or 2 guys who were truly basketball players.

No carbs and high protein. A lot of meat and eggs and cheese. This had been surprisingly easier this time around. Haven't gotten to exercise as much as I wanted, but that will be easier once I get back to campus.

In all seriousness, pay off all of my debts and any attached to direct family members. Invest in a quality security system.  Buy a new Ranger boat.  Make a donation to my HS alma mater to help take care of whatever need is there at this time.  Find someone to trust with investments and begin my retirement career as a fisherman.

I never really answered what I would do with the money.

I would create a charitable corporation that would specialize in providing trade education and employment to those with criminal histories involving incarceration.  After living in this world for a few years, by far the largest predictor of success after incarceration is sustainability, and that's something for which there is almost zilch in SWVA and rural Appalachia.

I would establish three branches to this operation.

The first would be a technical school for those who have no job training whatsoever, to be done while on probation or shortly after misdemeanor incarceration.    We're talking masonry, carpentry, welding, truck driving, mechanic, machinist, beautician, etc.  People are no good to employers without skills, and a trade that can be learned in 1-2 years (whereas the average length of probation is 3 years on felonies) would be something that would set them up for long-term success while otherwise working to pay off their fines.  The second would be working with the actual corporation itself.  During the later stages of probation, or for those who already have a trade, a charitable corporation could underbid the Hell out of public procurement contracts and secure enough work to last a lifetime.  This is aside from establishing a solid reputation in the community.  The third would be job placement services, more along the lines of a headhunter operation than a temp agency.  We're talking everything from mock interviews, to resume workshops, to job fairs, etc.  And with a trade plus 1-2 years of actual work experience and proving themselves on probation, those people are marketable (again).  Ideally, you would like to send some of them off to receive training so that they could come back to the corporation and themselves teach some of the trade courses.

The investment would be extremely substantial at first, at least until donations and governmental grants/funding would come in.  It would never run at a profit, but ideally, the "student body" would lessen over time.  This is life improvement, after all.

I think the most important thing is to KNOW who your family and friends are because after you win, you'll have more than you've ever known about.

As for me, my mother and my wife's parents would be well taken care of.  I can count on one hand (OK, maybe I'd need another finger or two) who my REAL FRIENDS are...so I've got that covered...and if you are on that list, consider yourself lucky.  My wife also knows who her real friends are, too.  So, if your not on "the list", the answer is NO.

But seriously, if you win that much money, you will have to become somewhat of an asshole because everyone and their mother will be coming to you for handouts...you have to learn to say NO, sometime.

I would make fantastic donations to Graham and Bluefield High Schools.  I would also make donations to Bluefield College and Bluefield State College.  My wife and I would then have a building named after us somewhere on the campus of Virginia Tech...we're talking a large donation.  BTW, those donations would not be for athletic purposes.  However, I would likely make a very nice donation to the Hokie Club and continue my annual giving and purchases of season tickets to both football and basketball.

We would likely leave Bluefield and buy/build homes in the Blacksburg area and somewhere near the beach.  Nothing outrageously fancy but both very nice.  I don't need a fancy car, just something nice...same with my wife, though we would probably upgrade her BMW.

Other than that, I'd spend the rest of my days either golfing, fishing, hunting, on the beach, or taking road trips to Hokie away games.

Life would change, but life wouldn't really change...

Yeah, Lebanon Bonanza not only has great food (girlfriend disagrees but she doesn't know anything, she is dating me for example) but it holds a special place in my heart as well.

It was actually the first place where I peed standing up as a little Mayor of Raven.

High protein low carbs.  Us big guys have muscle just need to grow it, tone and use it to burn calories.  Your weight will decide the quality of your life. You can actually turn back the clock or maybe right the clock and make yourself feel younger. Sometimes I think our bodies  carve protein but we feed it to many carbs, potatoes, bread, starch--- use protein to kill the hunger and drink plenty of water. It can be, day by day, week by week, month by month, don't stop make it your life.

Good luck to you Ryan.  Stay deteremined.  Same for havoc, Gman and anyone else looking to get healthier.  My wife and I are in the same boat.  I need to drop about 45 (hopefully 60) and she is wanting to cut 20-30 lbs.   Late night binge eating at the couch is a killer for me coupled with lack of consistent exercise.  I hope we all can hit the target we are looking at.

Ryan, I support you 1000%!!!  If you ever need to talk, you know how to find me.  I too fight some of the battles you mention...sometimes it isn't easy.  But, from the looks of it, we can create our own little "support system" right here on this board...you, me, and havok_fan, and others (I know you guys are out there...time to step up)

We all need to make our lives happier and healthier starting TODAY!

I'm about 45 pounds from my ideal weight and I'm bordering on high blood pressure.  When I was younger, I was a "light-weight" but could eat with the best of them and never gain an ounce.  Well, that caught up with me, I can still eat with the best of them but pack the pounds on easily to the point I look like I'm 7 months pregnant.  I used to be extremely active, now, I get up, go to work, come home and sit in front of the TV or computer until its time to go to bed.

I'm with Ryan!  Today is the day I change my life...this is Day 1.
