A good crew will have the same pace for initiating a each play no matter what offensive style is being played.

Besides with Les being a Michigan guy that might improve the chances of him retaining Leoffler as the OC which is even more reason for Tech not to want him.

Got to love a multitasker. Could even take it fishing with you on the river bank as a rod holder.

I was told a story by a former player at Garden High School who played in a playoff game against Tom Turner's Appalachia. Long story short.....Appalachia won by about sixty points. At the end of the game, Turner says something like the following to Garden's Coach Roger Rife: Sorry about running the score up a little, but your fans were barking at us when we got here.
No disrespect meant to Appalachia or Coach Turner, I thought the story was funny as hell. But it does seem to reinforce your "Give respect to get respect" strategy.
Also another story from I think the same game. The person that told me these stories was also the punter for Garden, per him. He said that Appalachia had them bottled up on 4th down and they were having very little success moving the football. He was back to punt, received a bad snap and made the instant decision to run.......and made a first down. He said that Coach Rife came trotting out to the huddle and said something like: Good job men, run the same play.

All referees, regardless of level, will make mistakes. I highly doubt any go into a game with a rooting interest in outcome.
Ask any coach in SWVA and they will all wish for consistency with the full knowledge and understanding that mistakes will happen. If officiating is consistent, players and coaches will adjust quickly and it will never become an issue. Fairweather friends in the stands who have never officiated anything with the exception of from the comfort and safety of the couch will always blame. Referees are, and always have been, the easy target of that blame.

Gettin' 'em in bed is the duty if the coaching staff...as is all team discipline. It's still a better scenario than playing immediately after a long bus ride. The way I see it tho, if a team's players don't care enough about advancing in the playoffs that they can't get in bed, behave, and put forth their best effort preparing to play the game...in that case, it doesn't matter anyways and they don't deserve to win. Being a champ comes down to much more than athletic ability.

Alcoa was up 38-0 early 2nd Quarter, i would guess the waterboy was at QB by the start of the 4th.

Traditional powers tend to have more knowledgeable fan bases, especially in SWVA. I have had the opportunity to visit some great places over the past 4 or 5 years. Honaker, Haysi and Clintwood have as impressive a following as I have witnessed and they are certainly knowledgeable.
With that said, every high school program is going to have the half lit mom with a cow bell screaming for little Johnny while he is standing on the sideline begging for her to just shut up.

Im one of the people that saw the topic of this thread and was excited to read about it just to open it and find that it was bull$#!t.
This is a pretty good community we have here, everyone contributes and everyone is interested in football across SWVA. If you just want to run your mouth about a program/team I recommend going down to the nearest gas station, walk around back and im sure you will find someone there who wants to here what youve got to say.
Do I coach from the bleachers? yeah I do. But at least I dont run my mouth toward teenagers on the internet

I had a meeting at a project site yesterday afternoon. A gentleman at this meeting from Illinois with ties to this area was holding court about how his "involvement within the upper echelon of Virginia Tech athletics permit him to be in the room during discussions of Mr. Beamer's replacement". He felt "reasonable secure in stating with great pride that Mr. Babcock had secured a handshake agreement with Jim Harbaugh to be the next head football coach at Virginia Tech".
With that said, the guy is a full of shit as a Christmas goose!

This discussion confirms one thing, not all of the crazy asses in the world live in Richlands. If Union and Giles ever square off in the playoffs and we have a really weak opponent, I could see me foregoing the Richlands game for this one. Phil and Ragsdale could do the play by play and bring in Jerry Springer for the head official.
P.S. - Don't take this post too seriously, I am just funning around.

Looking at head to head opponents might say otherwise. Marion lost to Northwood 18-6 and Rural Retreat 47-14. Bland beat Northwood 27-6 and Rural Retreat 21-14.
Who knows what would happen on the field but I wouldnt short change that Bland team in this comparison.

I don't have a dog in the fight. I thought some may appreciate the exact face guarding rule since it differs greatly from what we see on television on Saturdays and Sundays.

Face guarding without contact is a penalty at the high school level only. Rule 7-5-10-b, page 62 of the National Federation of State High School Associations reads: “Any player who hinders an opponent’s vision without making an attempt to catch, intercept or bat the ball, even though no contact was made … is forward pass interference.â€
In this case, for high school games and youth leagues that use NFHS rules, a defender must make a play on the ball – or at least be looking back at the ball – and not just throw his hands up and attempt to get in the way.
At the college level, the rule requires contact. “Contact†is specifically mentioned in all descriptions of pass interference in Rule 7 of the NCAA manual.
This comes into play for an official on a judgment call. If the defender is making a play on the ball, some incidental contact is typically allowed. If the defender doesn’t look back, makes himself an obstacle and makes contact with the receiver, a flag can be thrown (an easy call most of the time). If the defender does not make contact, however, no flag.
In the NFL, by rule, face guarding is allowed but like at the college level that changes if contact is made.
