  1. Emory led all of D3 in attendance for something like 10 years from the early 90's through the early 00's. and that doesn't even count atleast a third of the people who never actually make it into the game! interesting sidenote: I didn't see it with my own two eyes, but everybody said Emory was mentioned on Sportscenter during the 2001 season for taking over the longest home win streak in the nation at 45 games after a Nebraska loss that gave us the record.
  2. Congrats to Brandon Castle and Chase Owens. That is an impressive win for Chase...i hope it carries over to state!
  3. Lebanon is not a step behind GC or VH. Lebanon was pretty evenly matched last year with Honaker and Tazewell...two teams that both beat VH. It will be those three competing for the district. GC played in Bristol last year, but they might do a back to back with the new district. I believe VH will have a good team next year, if they can replace some skill positions. the line will be the best it has been in a few years. Don't sleep on Lee either....they've been playing a LOT of underclassmen the last couple years.
  4. Lebanon 26 George Wythe 21 GW scored twice in the 4th to take 1 point lead with like 10 seconds left. time for one play after the kick. Fake reverse 80 yards for the game winner. don't think there even was an extra point try. It came back around on Lebanon two weeks later. missed a 2 point conversion with under a minute left to lose 34-33 to T. Jones and the PV boys. The best high school game in my memory.
  5. I just wanted to Congratulate Richlands on runnin' through Region 4 like crap through a goose this year. And wish you men the best of luck tomorrow! We are all rootin' for you guys to bring one back home to swva. Here's to playin' the perfect game tomorrow. Hammer them.
  6. that schedule for next year absolutely sucks. I guess we just gave up on beating the swd to pad our record against chilhowie and play a team with no tradition in sullivan central. I hate this schedule. and by way, tenn high and S.C. are size of AA schools in Va. we get AA power points for them. and another thing, I was at the JF/Gate City game of 97 and GC beat them all over the field. It should of never came down to the field goal. yardage was ridiculous in GC favor. I will agree that the team wasn't as good as the team of 96 that lost to Brookville/Lomax On this topic, Go Bengals....that's pretty close to a bearcat!
  7. I hate to see this series end. After takin' a break for a few years to let the hitting spill back onto the field, It's been all Richlands all 3 times they've played after Lebanon dominated this series in the 90's (except the '92 fumble fest). I got to watch this game last year and Lebanon had over 200 yards rushing and had a couple long first half drives stall inside the 10. I think they'll be in it. within 40 anyway. There's always some hard hittin' in this one. I gotta give Coach Mance some credit. He has really separated Richlands from the rest of the pack in swva. He's done a really good job there i think.
  8. Those uniforms are my favorite combo they wear. they earned back the national respect they had lost last night. I loved the swarming defense. No gettin' ran over and tryin' to catch backs as they run by.(except Rouse) Hokie nation has got to pull for Miami tonight. If they win, and we beat them, we'll be in the driver's seat.
  9. was it supposed to say 35?
  10. I think Graham's size combined with the weather gives them the advantage in this game. The Bearcats are a little light in the *ss up front. These two teams have more speed than about any other teams in swva, but gotta give the g-men the nod in the trenches. look at last year. I know from where i was standin' it felt like they ran for 800 yards that game. it gave me a headache. If the weather is not too bad, i think it will go down like last year. Va High will put some points on the board, but they won't be able to stop Graham. Va High - 21 Graham - 35 Now. I'd like to see the 'cats go out there and prove me and everybody else wrong and earn back a little respect like them Hokies did last night. Gobble Gobble. All we need is Adibi. Keep an eye on Shaka Andrew playin' linebacker tonight for vhs. he's a sophomore playin' for the first time this year and he's startin' to really come on. the paper said he had 25 tackles against honaker two weeks ago. Him and White gotta step it up tonight!
  11. Sounds to me like Scammell's got the blue devils on track. That's no small feat. They've been horrible since the Talford days. Good to see a young head coach from the area doin' good. I can see them havin' a good defense, cause i'm bettin' if there's one thing a scammell coached team can do...it's Hit people!
  12. Nope. The bearcats win and secure a rematch at tazewell in the first round. I think Messer makes sure some points go up on the board.
  13. tazewell over graham means they can match up just as good. heck, they beat you. carrol over tazewell, abingdon over carrol, vhs over abingdon....i guess that means we all can "match up" against r-lands about the same. not to freakin' good. It seems to me that this year in far swva AA has 1 team in Richlands at the top head and shoulders above everybody else and two at the bottom in Grundy and Lee that are a little further behind than the rest right now. All the rest are pretty close in talent and it's just which team plays with intensity and execution from week to week. People will forget that the last time Richlands played at vhs the score was tied with like 6 minutes to go and vhs actually led 21-14 in the third. I don't think this bearcat squad is as physical as that one, so i'm gonna say Richlands 42 VHS 14
  14. "Yeah it may be 2 wins but it was the first in 4 years!!!" sorry bud, That's only true if you say regular season. and you didn't.
  15. how can a team not be ready to play when they are the Homecoming game for the team that knocked them out of the region championship two years ago and then shut them out last year? I seriously doubt they were not ready to play in that one. Just gotta give Tazewell some credit for playing a better ballgame that night. And work some this week on Holdin' on to the freakin' football. They were good, and we gave them more than enough help. can't do that this week, especially AT Honaker. Some of the boys from Bristol have never played over on the coal-dust laced fuller field. It's a little different from ole' Gene Malcolm. Good luck to the Bearcats this friday!
  16. man, that article sounded to me like graham beat the everlivin' tar out of marion about as bad as a team can. 350+ yards to 70. and 250 to -7 at the half. that's about as much as you can dominate a team right there. With Mcdaniel and company back this will be a much better Tazewell team this week. Just based on the numbers, you gotta like Tazewell in this one.
  17. "most of their opponents will win a lot of games meaning a lot of bonus points." I don't know about this. tenn high usually goes undefeated, but they've already lost 2. and abingdon, marion and jb are not gonna be winnin' a whole lot. they need to win 3 of those games left and hope GC wins out for them. Honaker will win all the rest of their games. but then tazewell will get a lot of points from lebanon it looks like. big game in tazewell this friday!
  18. wow, great win last nite for the bearcats! I hate to hear that about those 3 guys being lost for the year. I think it shows a lot of character on the part of coach smith for taking this action even though he knew it would hurt his football team. Those guys did something stupid and now they've lost the most important thing they had...football. I hate it for them, but i hope they learn somethin' from it. I am really impressed that vhs was able to win this one without all 5 guys who were out. sounds like some guys really stepped it up. Congrats on the big win to all you guys who made it happen. anybody have any comments on the actual game? How did this one go down? when do holbrook and esposito come back?
  19. "If you call finishing 4-6 or 5-5 year in and year out and then getting thumped in the 1st round of the playoffs big and bad then rock on!" Va High won a road playoff game against the #1 seed season before last. Lost bad last year to a team that went to the state championship. That's not year in and year out. There ya go. i proved it. you are wrong. Thanks for your input which had nothing at all to do with the game. As for this game, I haven't heard anything about this one but i am also surprised by how close this one was. The defense is givin' up a lot of points, especially considering Graham shut Marion out the week before. Two close wins in the district have both been by a field goal, having a good senior kicker in Caleb Hunt is paying off for the Bearcats. Marion has beaten VHS in jv games the last couple of years, so i guess it really shouldn't be that big of a surprise. Anyway, a win is a win. Congrats to the Bearcats. Go get those Blue Devils!
  20. "if i had to sum it all up, we have a much better team than the bearcats. if you watched the game you would have seen how sloppy the cats were." well let's see what the numbers say... First Downs: VH 21; A 16; Rushes-Yards: VH 47-262; A 36-89;Passing Yards: VH 172; A 222; Comp-Att-Int: VH 9-14-0; A 12-28-1; Fumbles-Lost: VH 5-4; A 0-0; Penalties-Yards: VH 6-70; A 11-92; Punts-Average: VH 3-34; A 4-22.3. You got the Cats on the sloppy thing for sure. 4 lost fumbles did lead directly to a lot of abingdon's points. I dunno about havin' a much better team....VHS 434 total yards to 311 for Abingdon according to the Bristol Herald. Good luck to the falcons the rest of the year.... Redneck, you are amazing. you start a post with, "i wish these people would quit talking about the highlands football" when it is the one strand devoted to this game. Do you see us coming onto your threads and insulting your town, your players, and your coaches? I have a question...do you get upset because other teams have the nerve to use the board to talk about their home teams on their own thread? Are you pissed we don't mention Richlands? Why are you on this thread? and yes, we know, Richlands lifts weights a lot.
  21. Daniel Woods is a mean little s.o.b., vhs could use more just like him. It was a football game, what happens out there is left out there. if he got in your head it shows your own mental weakness. Good win tonight for the bearcats. White's a beast in the middle. now for the next several weeks we'll see if they can get over the hump and compete with gate city and the swd. I believe they have it in them. Still can't talk until we beat one of these next five. We'll see.
  22. Virginia High - 35 Abingdon - 14 There's no reason to think this year will be any different than the last couple years. Randy White, Zak Messer, Allan Eccleston, and Chris Carter will lead VHS to the win. Good Luck Bearcats!
  23. We lose 4 on defense (1 of those was out over half the year and was replaced by a sophomore last year). We lose 3 on offense 2 lineman and a wideout. I think Graham has to be the favorite right now in the region. With Richlands a very very close 2nd.
  24. This is in response to everyone who has once again trashed our players and coaches, this time in regard to the all region team. Who picks these teams? The Head Coaches. so, coach smith shows up, well prepared, and pushes for his kids. He makes the case for all his players he feels should be in the running. Other schools in both the highlands and swd don't even have a coach show up to push their players. So which Coach should catch the all the negative stuff? I think the ones who didn't show up or the ones who didn't stick up for their guy if he was more deserving. Richlands - 7 1st teamers Va High 3 1st teamers As for our LB "who only played for games", He played all the district games and was clearly the best defensive player in the district. As a result, he was named defensive player of the year in the disrict. That usually means a player is a lock to atleast be on the all region 1st team, which he was. I'll add, i think he deserved it. Same thing with Eccleston on offense with his POY in the highlands. Can't wait to have him back next year! Only other 1st teamer was Sullins, so what is the problem?
  25. VHS does not play lebanon. I agree with Gman, i hope we will stay AA. games against clintwood, pound, and coeburn just don't compare to games against all the area AA teams. We would be the 4th largest single A team which would mean more playoff success, but I personally would still rather play AA.
