Fair point. I don’t think about that incident all the time. But it is understandable if people call them out

Acknowledging the incident is not the same as bashing. They are kids but s lot of people, including myself, think they should know better.

There have been incidents with Graham that have made Union people a bit ticked.

From the sounds of what you are saying, it seems as if it has been addressed.

I think it has, I think those kids got caught up in the moment and the proximity of the crowd didn't help things.  Graham had a routine of coming out and doing a chant to get fired up.  It's not a common thing in SWVA, but very common in other parts of the state.  I think some of the opponents fans viewed it as being disrespectful.  It is just a way if getting motivated and fired up before the game.  I've only seen them do it a couple of times this year.  The "come get some" chant.  It's their way of getting fired up.  Some teams do a dog pile, some teams jump around. This is just Graham's thing.  I posted a video of what Oscar Smith does and that is just crazy.

I do understand why some may have the opinion that Graham is un disciplined after that game.  But it is definitely not a reflection of who they are and how they usually conduct themselves.  I just think they were caught up in the moment.  Later in the game they got what they felt was a bad call in a crucial situation and sort of list their cool then too.  So, yes I do see your point.

To acknowledge that it happened is not wrong. Kids of 14-18 ought to know better than some of what was seen. If Union players were behaving that way at any point then people would be calling them out. When I acted like a knucklehead as a kid, I got called out.

It has nothing to do with Saturday's game.

I’m so tired of hearing how Union is automatically going to win and the trash talk about Graham coaches and players.  Coach Palmer has been head coach for 3 years - who else has brought a program that far that quickly.  Sick of the bashing of the Graham kids hell I bet Graham has more 4.0 kids on the football team than anyone in the area.  Graham kids are a good hard working bunch.  Let’s stop the trash talk and let these teams play it out.  I highly doubt Coach Palmer was boasting at a meeting if anything he is one of the most humble coaches I know.  He would never say graham is going to go to the next round he takes it week by week no matter who they play.  Saturday can’t get her quick enough no doubt to shut this negative speculation up!!  I’m excited to see an evenly matched football game.  Strength of schedule points scored points scored on Union and Graham match up better than anyone.  See ya at Bullit and will be there with more Cowbell!

Well said and thank you for saying this.  This group voluntarily prays together before and after games.  They have volunteered their time to do community service.  This characterization of Coach Palmer is ridiculous.  Most everybody in Bluefield knows Tony personally and would say this is a bunch of B.S.  I know a lot if these kids personally and it's sickening to hear grown adults talk about kids this way.

Never said I did know him. But I know our coaches. One of them coached me. I trust them. If they said they heard it, then I take it as it happened. If that sounds odd to you, sorry pal. I know exactly one person who has a kid who plays for graham. He’s good people and his kid is too. He’s young. Jv player I think. As for your kids being good, might be. I got no reason to argue that. But when they have history of flipping off our fans and talking trash to our band and cheerleaders, then what are people going to think.

I didnt say say anything to trash your team or coach. But his tactics at the meeting are childish. But I’m not arguing. Safe travels to and from BSG.

As an adult in the situation, you are no better to perpetuate the situation on a message board.  They are kids, you are an adult

Seems Graham’s head coach is a bit over confident of a win Saturday. Was overhead at the region d coaches meeting today saying he has hotel booked in appo and was asking about places too eat. Then, during the meeting, asks coach turner what the win streak is at the Park. Travis tells him that’s not really what they are there for. He then proceeds to tell him he knows the streak number and tells Travis.

Sounds like he’s worried and trying to play head games with Travis. Barking up the wrong tree I’m afraid. Just managed to embarrass himself.

I don't believe this for one second.  You don't know Coach Palmer very well.  Enough of this B.S. about our boys being disrespectful and the insinuation that Graham has discipline problems.  Far from it.  These kids are yes sir, no sir all the way.  They are quiet when coach talks and are super good kids.  Give it a rest. There is not a finer role model than coach Tony Palmer. This crosses the line.

That's great!! My heart goes out to any player on any team that gets hurt.

This young man is the definition of toughness.  He had a horrific injury in the Richlands jamboree when his leg was broken and he had to be airlifted out of there.  He came back only to suffer another leg injury, re have and came back again moving to the defensive side of the ball and becoming one of Graham's best defenders.  This latest injury was very scary, he was blind sided with helmet to ear hole contact after the play was over by a Grayson defender who I will not name.  Very scary situation   Michael was motionless on the field for quite a while.  Don't know if he was concussed or not.  But an uncalled for cheap shot, that could have ended tragically.

Looking forward to a fun trip this Saturday. Hoping for a good clean game with no injuries and may the best team win!!  Whoever wins. You can bet that I will be cheering for them to bring the title back to region D.  Where it belongs

Still stung over a discussion we had back in July, eh?

Those “official” times to which you refer do NOT pass “official” muster in the world of T&F measurement.  They aren’t electronic and are wind-aided.  I don’t know how many times I have to plow this ground with you people.  I’m not saying Cooke isn’t fast; he’s the fastest athlete within the jurisdiction of this website.  I’m saying that OFFICIAL times and the measurements you identify as “official” differ by up to two-tenths of a second.  Plus, VT’s camps are NOTORIOUS for shaving time off their preferred targets’ 40 times.

If you took Cooke and gave him an “official” time trial, he’s probably in the 4.48-4.52 range.  If he ran an “official” 4.37, he’d have quadruple the D1 offers he has, even considering that his hands are a net negative for his preferred position.

Cooke can run a 4.48 backwards, you are delusional.  Bradshaw's best time was a 4.52 at the NFL combine and he himself will tell you that Cooke is faster.  To be a Graham fan that never actually goes to see them play and relies mostly on a pitiful radio broadcast, you sure throw a lot of shade their way.  That's why I don't like posting on here because of fake fans like yourself.

No wind aided time coming from their indoor practice facility and they sure as hell didn't use a stopwatch.  They were electronic.  As was the time at the camp in Charlotte. WVU put a speed jacket on him and offered him immediately afterwards, but it wasnt a "wind aided" speed jacket.

The only wind aided stuff around here is the stuff coming from your direction. And don't refer to me as "you people".  You're not any better than anybody else on here.

Graham does not have a historically strong T&F program.

Graham doesnt have a lot of participation in track.  Several of their athletes play soccer in the spring.  Track has never been popular at Graham, even when I went there in pre historic times.  Of course Cooke's fastest OFFICIAL time is 4.37 ran at a camp at VT.  He also has an official time of 4.40 clocked at a camp in Charlotte, NC.  I capitalize official because of how many folks doubted that these numbers were for real at the beginning of the season.  13 or so D 1 offers later, after these times were posted, I guess we see he's for real.  You don't need a watch to see how fast this kid is, if he gets in the open field, it's going to the house, simple as that, he can fly.  Graham has several kids who can run in the 4.5 to 4.6 range on offense.  Lester, Gray. Allen, Justice all have very good speed.  Curto is very athletic and decent speed as well, I'd like to see him get the ball more, but there are just not enough football to go around.  I can't help but wonder how tough of an out Graham would be with a healthy Reed and Chinault playing this season.  Don't sleep on their defensive, they are decent up front and their linebacker play and secondary are exceptional.  Not a lot of success passing on Graham.  Richlands was able to put pressure on the QB, but Allen made big plays with his feet.  I don't think Graham can simply drop Allen back in the pocket and try to let him pass against Union.  They have to get him moving, make those big linemen chase him around and wear them down. Otherwise it could be a long night for Graham.

Since I've apparently released the Kracken...

A 4.40 electronic, non wind-aided, official time would put a recruit in the Top 10 of his position (in the entire nation).  A recruit who has historically run official times in the 4.7 range, and who has run in the 4.5s in non-official sprints, isn't suddenly going to be ripping off 4.40 readings in an official time trial.  If he ran an official 4.40, he would have a Hell of a lot more than 2 commitable offers.

i an higher than most on T. Cooke.  You can teach hands, and you can teach tackling and reading routes, but you cannot teach his shiftiness and elusiveness.  He has D-1 "football speed", if the measurables don't bear that out.  I think he projects better as a CB/FS, and I think he could be a decent D-1 contributor at the lower FBS level.  See: Ponder, Ansel.

But can we PRETTY FREAKING PLEASE stop falling into the trap of over-inflating expectation and measurables for local boys for the simple fact that they are local boys?!

Nowhere did I say it was an official time.  Nowhere have I said he was an elite athlete.  Fortunately, you have come along and put a negative spin on something that I was trying to put out there as a positive thing.  He performed well at a Developmental camp and ran a 4.40 end of story and he has some D 1 offers on the table. Take it for what it's worth.  If you want to be a big skeptic and burst everybody's bubble, far be it from me to shed some positive light on something.

I have a special request for G-Man.  Please drop the hammer on me.  I'll support my team where I always have, up in the stands EVERY friday night for the past 42 years.  I hardly if ever see some of you so called fans grace the place with your presence.  Even when I lived 4 hours away, I made it to a few games each year.  Bicker amongst yourselves.  As mentioned before, I have a lot more pressing things to worry about.  I enjoy positive banter, if I wanted to argue with folks, I would have stayed as a member of Virginia Preps.  Go piss in somebody elses lemonade.

Also, see you on the turf at THS in a couple seasons.

Aw, did I hurt its feewings?

Your batting average has been awfully low these last few weeks.  Take a break, champ.

It'll take me a while, but I"ll be fine.  Believe me, I have much more pressing concerns in my life right now then worrying about you one-upping me.  As for the UVA bashing, that should come with the territory here.  I have been given plenty of grief for being a WVU fan.

    Have a good day, sir.

If you're talking about Cooke running a 4.40 and the FACT that THS has a willing donor to put in turf and revamp the stadium, then I like my batting average.  Sure hope he doesn't choose UVA though, that would suck.

See Link Below.  Cooke was #88 in Red.

Pretty sure that isn't electronic and doesn't account for wind-aided times.  A certain FBS school in Montgomery County used those tactics for years to crow about how their recruits could run the 40 in elite-level time.

Fortunately, it's UVA that's recruiting him then.  I don't need a clock to see that he can fly.

He ran faster than nearly 400 kids at this last camp, I assume they all used the same system. Not sure why all the doubt about his speed.  If you have an eyeball in your head, you can see it.   As a Graham fan, I for one am excited for him.

  13. 3 hours ago, UVAObserver said:

That'd be quite impressive, considering his previous best official clocked time was 4.70...

in 3rd grade maybe... I find it hard to believe that his best official time was 4.70.  Must have ran backwards that day.

Who's the line coach Richlands got from Galaxy? Heard something about it but not a good source.

    Wishful thinking.

I was thinking of the LA "Galaxy" when I read this, that wouldn't be beneficial either
