You are part of the problem in Gate City, Va. constantly out here making up excuses about coaching and how Akers and his staff are a cancer.
    The. Talent. Is. Not. There.
Those kids bust their tails, and so do the coaches, to try and get a win on Friday nights. They don’t give up, which is more than you can say. You’ve given up on your team and town.
EH31 is trying to make a point to you, and all you’ve done is make more excuses, and now came at him with a 12 year old’s version of a keyboard warrior threat.
Wake up and see that there are about 10 circumstances that have led GC to what it is right now.
Mac McClung is 100% near the top of that list. He made basketball cooler than football. Kids want to be Mac. There’s the issue with your little league. They don’t want to play football anymore because McClung make GC great at basketball.
If you feel like you have all the answers, and you talk on here enough like you think you do, then go fix the problem. Volunteer to coach at any level. Go talk to school board members if you feel that strongly that you have a case.
Otherwise, just shut up and stop spewing crap everywhere for anyone who will take the time to read on here.
The world doesn’t revolve around Gate City football, man. It’s so much bigger than that.

I am impressed with the number of "Perfect" GC Football Fans on this forum.  But I must say I feel sorry for all the headaches you guys have because you know everything.  Tylenol must give you guys free stock😁.  Many times it has been talked about how the kids have quit or have poor attitudes and just give up.  Gee, I wonder who they got their attitudes from?  Everyone is constantly talking about how many hours Akers puts in compared to what they believe other coaches work. How do you know this?  Do you live at the school/field?  Are you constantly following Akers?  If so, how do you keep your job? 🤔 People say the School Board supports Akers.  Maybe they do or maybe they don't.  Maybe they are actually pretty smart. They realize the numbers and talent just aren't there from Little League up.  How would it look, if GC still didn't perform to everyone's Highest Standards?  I mean GC's "Perfect" Fans just cannot be wrong.  Akers has be to the blame for everything.  I'm pretty sure I saw him doing some sort of Voodoo spell to conjure up Hurricane Florence just so GC wouldn't have to lose again this Friday.  I guess he failed at that too🤦‍♀️

Your posts are always great! You have such overwhelming knowledge of every situation. Let me get this straight, because guys that coach aren’t from GC, they can’t coach. Harry Fry was from Lee County? I believe that is correct. Nick Colobro wasn’t from GC either. A few years ago, you said that Houseright didn’t need the job. Then you said he needed a chance. Make up your mind. How do you know that the guys coaching now don’t try to instill discipline? How do you know Coach doesn’t watch film or work at all? It is easy to sit in mommy’s basement and criticize. Maybe you should apply for the job, since you played there.  I guess that an “outsider” took the job to completely “ruin” the program. I very seriously doubt that too.
I would bet that you were an all state performer? Hahaha! Nope! I would go out on a limb and say you weren’t even an all district performer. You have made the comment that you don’t go to games any longer either.  You know for someone that bleeds blue, you sure do nothing but run everything into the ground.  I saw where you criticized the basketball coach last year too.   I guess you got tired of taking mommy to the games with you.
Just come on up to wine and cheese country on Friday. I’m sure you can find some place good to eat that your mom would like.

Like I said, you should never be allowed to pick a coach.  Especially since you quit.

Knew it wasn't a tax burden?  I would like to know where you think that state money comes from?  I guess you think that the lottery still pays for all of that.  I guess that you also need to do some research in how far Virginia is behind the rest of the country in paying its teachers.  I also find it asinine that the people move out of the community to keep from paying VA taxes, yet want to send their students back across the border.  Wonder why they complain about the football facility.  Just a thought.

I wish nothing but the best for this young man.  I have always enjoyed watching Marshall play, ever since the days of Randy Moss when they visited ETSU.  I enjoyed watching Bradshaw run the rock at Marshall. I really like watching local kids succeed.  Hopefully he can continue his career once it is over at Marshall.

well back then winning the district meant something, and everyone with a heartbeat didn't make the playoffs in any sport...the games were better and more fun to watch...the rivalry between any of those schools was strong...it was just a better time, even with the travel.

Jake was the best overall football player I've watched in my lifetime as far as high school. Mainly for standing out on both sides of the ball and he probably didn't sit out 3-5 plays per game. Best running back I've watched would be Thomas Jones and I seriously doubt that'll ever change.

That '96 team was very solid. Lost a heartbreaker at Brookville in a quagmire. A couple of writers said that year that the only team that could possibly beat them was Tech but that definitely wasn't the case. Brookville had 2 plays that worked the whole game and it beat us. I want to say the TE was Lomax from Brookville but after so many years, these things run together.

Appalachia had a lot of great players also. Travis Turner and Travis Clark were fun to watch. At the time, Turner was probably the best QB I had seen. I watched the Appy busses pull in at Legion Field one night 10 minutes before kickoff. They walked on the field, punched us in the mouth, and left.

If you do the crime, you gotta do the time! I hate it for the kid and teammates but you had two chances not to do it and after the first chance someone should have been in his face telling him about it, and I am sure Richlands players and coaches were (this is not typical Richlands behavior) but you had two shots at behaving or not and the player chose the latter course of behavior, it happened to our football playing son once and it never happened again.

I understand the thought process behind what you are saying, I think, but largely disagree with the proposed course of action.  Understanding kids make mistakes is one thing, condoning and even rewarding them for it is an entirely different matter.  I am not trying to get into the whole "generational gap" issue but maybe that's why millennials are by-in-large, out of touch with many social standards.  Kids are not held to any standard much less the same standard we were held to.  I am not suggesting policy and procedure never change from one generation to another but lack of action is still an action.  By not holding him accountable, an action is taken to condone or dismiss the behavior.

Yes, teenagers are prone to emotional outbursts but If this kid plays other sports, he will be far less likely of repeating this behavior given he was held accountable for this decision.  And make no mistake, it was a decision for him to act the way he did.  Life is about the choices we make and every choice carries with it, consequence.  Learning these lessons as a teenager may keep this young man from making a mistake as an adult that follows him for a lifetime.

I wasn't at the game but have seen several video clips of this kid pointing and taunting opponents, not only in this game but others as well.  Obviously, he hasn't been held accountable for the behavior prior to now.  If he had, maybe his choice would have been different in that moment.  Maybe a choice by the other "family members" to not allow him on the sideline will reinforce the notion that choices carry consequence.
