  1. I tend to agree with G-Man about Bluefield's ground game. Speed kills, but when you combine with a 6'4" 235+ back to pound the middle, it becomes even more deadly. Oh by the way the QB is a pretty good runner as well.
  2. He would have been Graham's 3rd best receiver.
  3. Readin', Writin' and Route 23. The Dwight Yoakum song is still applicable. Sadly, those that exploited the resources and the people have already moved on, and we are on our own. Don't let the slogans fool you. We are not affected equally by coal's down turn. The companies are diversifying and moving into other areas (fracking for gas.) and will leave us in the lurch.
  4. Mangino won with Turner Gill's recruits. One down year and Gill is gone. Now he is trying to build a program at Liberty. Hoke will survive the season simply because it is Michigan and they will do it the right way. A mid year firing does nothing but damage the program unless the interim hire knows they are permanent. Recruits are not going to want to commit to an unstable environment. With Michigan, the thing I find confusing is they are getting good talent but not seeing results. That comes down to Xs and Os.
  5. Sadly, I thought they had already done this. No impact on an abysmal program.
  6. 3 more major scandals and a sucky half time show.
  7. But Winston even blew that by dressing in pads and being on the sideline. Jimbo had to send him to the locker room to change. I get the feeling that he doesn't get it. These kinds of actions are just costing him $$$$$. In a league where character affects draft status, that can mean millions.
  8. Did I miss something, or on the pick six was there even a receiver in the area. I saw three linemen, but no receiver. He was baited on the last pick. He thought it was cover 2 and the safety was cheating over. I also think Ford was bothered by press coverage at times. A year in the weight room will solve that problem.
  9. GMan, some of us just don't move in the rarified crowds you do. BTW, E. Carolina maimed UNC on Sat. and better on the field decision making and not losing yard on a screen on 2nd and four changes Sat. outcome. I don't think the glass is nearly as empty as some. Young core players, and inexperience in the no huddle are factors.
  10. Quick observations: That TE for Chilhowie is a weapon. That kind of size and soft hands are impressive. Tazewell could not cover that drag route all night. The Tazewell defense suffered because of the offense's success. When you score quickly, the D never gets much chance to catch it's breath. Chilhowie ran almost three times as many offensive plays as Tazewell.
  11. I am older than dirt, and was whooped many times. I was also beaten once or twice. There is a clear difference. My grandmother whipped me with a switch, I was whipped with a belt. I was beaten with a belt and once with a garden hose. The difference for me was intent and severity. I was whipped for things I deserved, usually two or three swats and done. I was beaten for things that I may or may not have deserved and there was no intent to teach a lesson. Beatings left welts and lasted longer. The purpose of a beating is to relieve the rage of the beater. I do no object to whippings, but hate beatings.
  12. FYI, the girl is a star basketball player whose dream is to play at UCONN
  13. Slight understatement. VHSL Hall of Fame.
  14. Probably speaking from the point of view of the visitors bleachers. Having set over there, it is tough to see.
  15. Considering how rampant transferring is in KY, this is just a case of a school that has chosen to blatantly break the rules. Trinity in Louisville has taken transfers for years, and a perennial champions. Schools all over the state cherry pick, but do it within the rules.
  16. I tried last night to add SECN on-line and got a message that the offer had expired. Like GMan, I have the DIgital Preferred plus Sports Package with Comcast and ended up using ESPN Goal Line to watch the SECN games. It did mean I saw parts of New Mexico St-Cal Poly but it was something.
  17. IMHO, this one is all about the civil suit to come.
  18. I expect that the next coach will be a no nonsense, buttoned down type with a clean reputation. Pat Haden will hire someone in his own image.
  19. For what seems like the 10,000th time here are facts that need to be kept in mind. Roanoke City just build 2 new stadiums in the last 3-4 years. Cost of each around $5,000,000. That is with field houses, concessions, lights and the lot. At $37,000 per year, you are looking at way over 100 years for this to be cost feasible. Shoot, I am willing to bet that the feasibility study will cost more than $37,000. If the concession is an issue, negotiate with the City to allow the boosters to have a concession stand for GHS games.
  20. I know that VA High is a senior laden team, and Tazewell has 3. Graham has an edge in experience. The Bulldogs are headed in the right direction though. I expect both teams to show improvement and for it to be an interesting game.
  21. Another Southbound classic. My cat would have Precious trained to use the litter box and have that puppy bring her cat treats.
  22. I have been worried about Stripes.
  23. Here's my take. Johnny, being a rich boy didn't need the cash. His high school buddy, who serves as his "manager" does. They cook up the autograph racket. The buddy who is not subject to NCAA rules can keep the cash and Johnny doesn't get his hands dirty. The NCAA can only nail him by saying he should have reasonably known that someone was profiting from all those signatures. I figure Johnny profited when his buddy bought a round of golf or beer. BTW, if Johnny wasn't a rich boy who could afford a big time lawyer, he goes down for more time - (A. J. Green)
  24. Since Syria does have good military capabilities, even depleted by two years of civil war, I expect any action will be limited and unmanned. The Truman battle group is in the Med. so Cruise launches from a frigate are an option. I would also bet that sub based Cruise are also an option. This will be a carefully targeted response. Whether I agree with the action, this fact remains: the world can't sit idly by and let chemical weapons be used.
  25. Any Southern over the age of 50 knows that eating fried chicken doesn't lead to poverty. My grandparents were poor and kept chickens because they were a renewable food source. One rooster and a few hens could provide meat, eggs and pocket money on an ongoing basis. This ladies comment shows ignorance is still a scourge.
