There is more than enough coaching talent around the program to fill these vacancies. I believe Coach Akers can do very well at GC, but he has a mess to clean up from Houseright. I hope the administration is patient with him.

I know this is for high-school football, but damn Fuente is on fire with these recruits he's pulling. Sorry for going off topic.

They make it known too. I've seen where several coaches say that. And it's obvious, look at how many D1 coaches go to watch kids play other sports, Dabo went to OR to watch Higgins play basketball, Fuente is supposed to watch Mitchell play basketball as well. Coaches love versatility.

Good start. Maybe we can find a defensive coordinator and a line coach now. Should have cleaned house last season with the hire of Akers in my honest opinion.

He is getting all the attention he needs at gate city, and the travel ball gives all the looks any scout needs to see against top talent. He is a special player in my opinion that can play big D1 ball. I thinkthe bigger offers will come his senior season even if he stays at gc

In a previous thread, someone called McClung selfish or a showboat or both.  That is pure BS.  I saw that kid play his arse off tonight and I would take him all day every day and any day.  He recognized the hustle of teammates, fed the open guy and was the best player in the State quarterfinals at JMU today.  My hat is off to the kid.  Good luck wherever he ends up!

Flawed or not, it is what it is. To win state you must beat the best teams regardless. I've seen a few clips of RE Lee, and from the highlights of their game last night with Madison they gave up a lot of baskets at the rim. If they do that with Mac and Zac, I like our chances. The key will be making outside shots fall. Dean has 5 days to find his shot, he or Collier will be the difference. One of them needs double digits for GC to advance to the state semis, period. Mac and Zac can't do it all, we'll be going home Friday if we expect those 2 to do everything.

I saw on the VHSL website that it's going back to districts and Regions A-D for next year.

If Gate City and Richlands both win on Thursday, the regional final between the two will be on Saturday at UVA-Wise.

I'd hate to see what we would have done If we weren't "playing rough recently" or even let the starters play all game instead of pulling them early in the 4th like Scotty did in 5 of those games listed above.

No. If they haven't fired her yet, they never will. If Jeremy was to take another football coaching job else where not very close to GC, that might be the only way she leaves. She's ruined a lot of talent over the past few years.

I'm calling bull on this. I've known Scotty for nearly 30 years and I have never heard him cuss once. Did he get angry? Of course, wouldn't you if one of your players was getting fouled like that and the offending players coach didn't have enough class to get him to the bench and tell him to settle down? And I doubt Scotty wanted to "fight" anyone. He's one of the most laid back persons around and if he gets to the fighting point, well, it's probably gonna happen. lol

He is simply known as "Super Dave".  He is somewhat mentally challenged, (I think he had an accident when he was younger to cause this) so you'll have to excuse him.
 
Funny fact about him though, he was video guy for Haysi for MANY years back when I was in school, then I kid you not was recruited away by Richlands.  He worked for Richlands for two years and came back to Haysi.  He's been back in Dickenson County ever since.
 
I actually spoke to the cop who spoke to Frazier's wife, and apologized on our behalf for the behavior and he said not to worry about it, that normally he likes that stuff but then said if it was a Union fan she would've been out of there!  
 
I wished I would've seen the near altercation between Frazier and Houseright though.  Between her and McAmis, there should be a reality TV series filmed, called the Real Housewives of the Mountain District.  I think it would be a huge success in the TV ratings.  :)
