Two things stood out for me in regards to the GMS-BMS game last night: GMS had at least double the amount of kids in uniform as BMS. The GMS crowd was the largest I have ever seen for a Middle School game. The future does indeed appear very bright for Graham football.

I will add one to the heartbreaker list: 1984 Bluefield 21-Graham 20 Graham stopped half a yard short on 2pt conversation late in game. Bluefield won AAA title that year and were loaded. Graham started 7 sophomores and had only 4 seniors. Even my buddies told me we were going to get killed. A loss but still a good memory. Went on to SWD co-championship that year when there were 11 teams.

Amen Frito! Amen! Transferring is just a microcosm of today's need for "instant gratification". Transferring was not even an option back in our day.

Galax 43 Radford 0 Grayson County 61 Clintwood 6 These are two great teams. Having watched both teams whip my G-Men, I have to give the edge to Galax. Grayson lost two key players at the end of our game. Also, A. Jackson did not play against Grayson. Galax was unreal. The best coached team I have seen this year. BTW, I put those two scores at the top to exhibit how they dominated two good teams from outside of the MED.

Lamont is an exceptional young man. He is well deserving of this award. He has worked his tail off coming back from injuries. He is a yes sir/no sir kind of kid. Congrats Lamont !

This is a prime example of why we dropped to Single A.

The size difference between the two teams was the biggest I have seen of 40 years watching football. Richlands backs and receivers dwarfed our O and D lineman. Fans need to take that into consideration. Our game plan on D was good. Granted, we did not cover the slot on their first TD but a blitz was called and Strong is a smart QB. That happens sometimes. Ron White says you "Cant fix stupid". You also can't make a 5:10-180 kid 6:7 315 either. We have some monsters on the middle school Patience fans PLEASE!!!

This post worries me as a Graham supporter. Anyone who was at the Grid-o-Rama last friday could see the only offense we had was when #10 was at qb. Putting him in space and letting him create worked with positive results. I hope that Coach Williams is not trying to force his scheme, I formation, on a team that simply does not have the personnel for its successful implementation. We do not have the big powerful line for the I formation. We have a small line with several quick backs. Not wanting to beat a dead horse but the 05 team with Robert Henry and the 09 team had the personnel for the "I". I am just hoping Coach Williams was using the scrimmage as a "practice".

UVA Observer; I respect your POV, I just disagree a little bit. I have lived in all 4 time zones of the CONUS as well as a Mexican and Canadian border state in my DOD and DOJ careers. I will say without a doubt that there is no better place to raise kids than in Bluefield Va. Even one of my best friends growing up who moved to Orange County (Newport/Huntington Beach) after college graduation has told me repeatedly he will move back here when he has a family to raise his children. Look at all the successful people who went to Graham or Beaver. We may not have as much culture as larger or more economically viable areas, however, our small town values and sense of safety and security more than make up for it. My college roommate and friends who grew up in Fairfax County loved coming home with me. They said they wished they grew up here. They were amazed when we stopped by GHS how all my teachers knew me and gave me a hug and really cared. Bottom line; I loved growing up here and love my kids growing up here. I feel Coach Williams and his family will feel the same and put down solid roots here.

Due to the short notice of Smith resigning why doesn't Tazewell just hire one of the finalists for Graham's opening. They have already gone through the interview process. If they were good enough to be a finalist for Graham they are definitely good enough for Tazewell. Two of the finalists are local and have Tazewell ties. Just an idea!!
