Two of my three are Chilhowie and Abingdon because of the rivalries. The other this year is Ridgeview, I'm anxious to ride over there and see them play in their first season.

I want to 2nd what Razor said Rod !  I like how you have handled the way everyone has spoke their mind.
You'll find that we give each other a hard time about each others school,  and the Friday night we play each other we can't stand one another,  but we are from SWVA and we love our football and our towns and we pull for each other in the playoffs.
We often feel like the east doesn't take us very seriously for the most part so we can be a little touchy about that.  Especially since we feel like our teams have for the most have proven themselves time and again in the playoffs.
But it sounds like you may be willing to listen to some of us now and I hope this is the start of making VA Preps better,  and more appealing to people on this end of the state.

Rod have somebody if you don't have time to engage this site and read it. Yes we are touchy about the State ending at Roanoke until you guys at the end of the season have to acknowledge us because.....Gate City.....Clintwood and Haysi in the past.....Richlands and Honaker by some miracle shows up deep in the playoffs. Of course Giles most recently. So there is great resentment towards your board. I to used to post there but left for the obvious reasons.

Lance and Gman have done a great job here we think. I will say it again......do whatever it takes to get Gmans input and it will give you a great deal of help if you really want to know about our teams here in SWVA.

I've had a rough offseason trying to recruit down here in Marion to replace all the talent we lost so a 5-5 season would be a good season in 2015

Are we talking about what QB you would rather have in a Super Bowl, or the greatest QB of all time?

My answer is the same regardless, Montana at #1. He never threw an interception in the Super Bowl, is maybe the most clutch quarterback ever, and has his signature moments.
I also believe he beat better teams in his four wins than Brady overall. Seattle is better than Cincy x2, Denver and Miami but as a whole I think the SF opponents were better.
He has his come from behind, 90 yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to beat a good Cincy team with his winning TD pass to Taylor in the last seconds, he out dueled a future HOFer and top 5 QB in Marino and beat them convincingly, absolutely annihilated John Elway 55-10 (still biggest winning margin ever), and beat a decent Cincy team for his first SB with Kenny Anderson as the Bengals QB. It shoulda been a San Diego/San Francisco Super Bowl, I believe the Chargers had the better team overall but had to play in CIncy in a game with like a minus-50 windchill. SD had Fouts, Winslow, etc.. but the Bengals prevailed that day and didnt get blown out by SF in 1981.

    I would rank them:
    Montana
    Brady
    Bradshaw

I never really viewed Bradshaw as an elite, top of the top QB. He was the beneficiary of arguably the best overall team ever with HOFers at RB, two WRs, one OL, DT, two LBs, and a top 5 all-time CB in Mel Blount, He made some big plays in big moments, but his career as a whole is not as good as Brady or Montana. Neither Tom nor Joe were ever almost benched permanently for Terry Gilliam.

If we are just doing like top five all-time QBs, I would rank:
    1-Montana
    2-Brady
    3-Manning
    4-Elway
    5-Marino

LOL!!! Wagner would have had a heck of a season even playing a tougher schedule than what Marion did don't just go by the schedule

Let be honest, Wagnor overcame a lot on and off the field to achieve what he did.  That combined with his great season should have landed him on the BHC All Area team as the second running back.  There are a lot of variables, but to deny him that area honor (when he was recognized at the state level) seems crazy.  Stats aren't everything, and even then, you have to look at stats closely to see what they really indicate.  Simcox was put in to kick 4 50-plus yard FGs knowing that if the ball crossed the goal line it would come out to the 20.  Safer than a punt, no return, and all resulted in touchbacks, but lowered his percentage.  45 yards and in:  6/9, and 4/4 40 to 45 yards.   But if you look at just raw stats, his numbers aren't so good.  The BHC just didn't know enough in either of these cases to make (in my opinion) a better choice.

I don't want to take away from either of the two that got on the team.  But my opinion is that Simcox, and especially Wagnor, deserved to be on that list.

    Fun to debate!

There is no doubt Herron deserved POTY...no debate.  Yeah, Ryan, I may have mislead you by not clarifying.  I'm just talking about who should have made the team.  Simcox was hands down the better overall kicker..from PAT's, to FG's to Kickoffs. Wagner was a phenomenal back and should have made the team without question.  The paper must be monster popularity contest.

I think they had 7,500 tickets to sell. I don't think they sold that many either of the last two years (Orlando vs. Rutgers and El Paso vs. UCLA).  At least they won't be on the hook for any unsold tickets this year.

Congrats Richlands! I second Canes comment, you guys took it to us tonight! I hate that I missed Razor and Ryan tonight but I did get to see mv91. It was nice chatting with you again bud. I'm still proud of my Canes on a good season. It's been fun watching this team with the offense they've had. Best of luck to Richlands next week!

Wooden Pickle Food & Spirits is located on Main Street directly across from the Lincoln theatre.  We have draft and bottled selections as well as on and off premise wine.  We were just recently voted best restaurant in Smyth County by Smyth County News and Messenger.  Although we are HUGE Canes Fans, we still welcome any Blue Tornado fans :-)
