The argument is this: Were it not for Mance, Richlands wouldn’t be in those positions in the first place.  That’s correct and fair.  But on the flip side, once you’ve assembled that team, how much criticism is fair for the innumerable postseason gags?
 
I think back to Glynn Carlock.  Back in those days, Regions 3 and 4 were king; seldom, if ever, did Regions 1 and 2 have anything to match up.  Graham won 2 state titles with him and lost just the 1, but Carlock lost 5 games in the state semifinals, 4 of which were of the heartbreaker variety, to Region 3 teams that eventually won the state championship.  Carlock was but a turn of fate away from winning 6 state championships and being the best coach in SWVA history.  How do you judge him for those losses in ‘81, ‘90, ‘93, ‘98, ‘01, and ‘03?
 
Then again, did Carlock ever have the overwhelming talent advantage that Mance has enjoyed in many of those postseason flops?

Impressive performance and impressive season considering what could have been.  I know I’ve said it before, but the Bulldogs are gonna be no joke in a couple seasons.

I have been "out-of-pocket" for awhile and missed much of the football season to date.  Clicked on the SWVAsports board this am to catch up and WTF!  GC fans and their version of "Days of our Lives" have firmly migrated here.  Much like soap operas, you really don't need to watch often, one or two episodes and you are all caught up on the misery and woe.  SSDD, if you know what I mean. 
Hint(s) for some of the more brash, newer posters:  (1) Don't piss off he who wields the hammer; and (2) UVAO knows his stuff.  You better have your ducks in a row before entering battle with either.

Big Creek's original field was neat. It was built on the front lawn on the school with bleachers on one sideline and the front steps to the school on the other sideline. There was also a huge green fence with an owl painted on it behind one of the goalposts to separate the field from the railroad tracks 

Different rules in each commonwealth. VHSL lists out of state schools by the classification that they would be as if they were a Virginia school.

Not sure who your sources are, but mine say that's not the case. And they've never been wrong in the past. 

Idk about PH but JIB and Chilhowie for sure. Don't forget Grundy is A now too. 
Idk what TV has back but the BDD is wide open imo. Probably the most parody that district has ever had, it's wide open. Hurley could finish 1st or 4th

I think they have 2 new transfers that are skill kids that will help. Heard they were from NC and are very fast .

I think it's cute how they presume a 1st Round playoff game.  That's the kind of schedule that will keep you home if you have a couple of duds against your equivalents (Lebanon, etc.)

Hurley did pretty good , Brady Justice going to VT and Logan Justice going to Richland's.

You're right, Abingdon has never won a state championship, and hasn't made a state semifinal this millennium. Awful comparison, Tazewell has much more historical success.

Based on the criteria that GMan gave for a toxic program, Abingdon was in the exact same situation five years ago. Historically, I can't think of a school that has done less with more than Abingdon, and it was due to having a culture issue. I'm sure no one in Abingdon would like to admit it, but they didn't suddenly get good because they found a new coach with a better playbook. Reed's staff has changed the culture of Abingdon's football team and given them a hardnosed, winning mentality, something that had been lacking from the school for as long as I can remember.

Unlike other Division 1 sports, football's maximum scholarship total is a 1:1 correlation with the maximum number of scholarship roster spots. Unlike baseball, where a Division 1 school has to divide 12 scholarships among 33 slots, Division 1 football is 85:85 for FBS and 63:63 for FCS.
 
Partial scholarships are not a thing for Division 1 football. An offer = full ride unless very clearly stipulated that the slot is a walk-on slot.
 
As for the actual hard-copy, on-paper "offer", those aren't things either. There is no paperwork signed until the LOI and grant-in-aid documentation, etc. Only dick coaches like Randy Edsall renege on offers. Swinney is very far from a dick coach.
