I know this full well.  I'm just trying to somewhat keep the peace because Hokiebird7 and myself get along about as well as CNN and the Trump administration.

I understand this completely having married a Beaver girl myself.  That's the main reason we take the last week of August as our vacation week at the beach...saves us a lot of money by not having to go through a divorce....
Seriously, the last time we went to a Graham-Bluefield game was in 2001...and I was left sitting by myself after halftime....

VT's women's lacrosse hasn't ever beaten UVA, in 18 matches.  VT's men's tennis hasn't beaten UVA since before I went to college.  VT's women's basketball is 2-22 in its last 24 against UVA, including a 76-27 beatdown of a #19 VT in Blacksburg last year.  VT men's basketball is 3-11 against UVA in the Tony Bennett era.  Until Mark Bernadino's exit, neither of VT's swimming/diving programs were in the same universe as UVA's.  Neither VT golf program has been competitive with UVA this decade.  I'm not even counting baseball, where VT has outperformed itself in the rivalry but still falls well short of UVA (3-11 in the O'Connor era).

There's a whole bunch of lopsidedness in this rivalry, but it largely favors UVA.  The only two sports that really favor VT on a consistent basis are football and softball.  That's it.

Health Miller, class of 2001 had some big offers if I'm not mistaken.  I don't know if that's internet era or not.  Coleman Thomas of Fort Chiswell had offers from Tennessee, Florida State, WVU, VT, UVA, and Maryland.  Florida State is certainly big time football, but he was still a 3 star on Rivals.  James Mitchell is a 3 star on 247 sports and a 4 star on Rivals.  Since the early 2000's, he would be ranked higher than anyone in SWVA that I can think of regarding recruiting ranking and offers, etc.  However, Jake Houseright was ranked higher out of Gate City than both Jones brothers and was the 31st ranked player in the United States by SuperPrep, but this was before the boom of the internet (internet was already around though).  Houseright and both Jones Brothers were on at least one High School American list.  Both Jones bro's were honorable mention USA Today All-Americans, but Houseright was an All American on most of them including Prepstar, NRA (no longer around, former recruiting ranking service), and Superprep.  In the last 25 years, if going by recruiting ranking only (not future success in NCAA or NFL) but by recruiting ranking out of High School only, Jake Houseright would be the highest ranked recruit out of SWVA slightly ahead of both Jones Brothers.

    http://www.click2houston.com/news/familys-brutal-obituary-for-galveston-man-raises-eyebrows

Below is the entire obituary that was originally posted on the website of Carnes Funeral Home:

"Leslie Ray 'Popeye' Charping was born in Galveston on November 20, 1942 and passed away January 30, 2017, which was 29 years longer than expected and much longer than he deserved.  Leslie battled with cancer in his latter years and lost his battle, ultimately due to being the horses ass he was known for.  He leaves behind 2 relieved children; a son Leslie Roy Charping and daughter, Shiela Smith along with six grandchildren and countless other victims including an ex wife, relatives, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses and random strangers.

"At a young age, Leslie quickly became a model example of bad parenting combined with mental illness and a complete commitment to drinking, drugs, womanizing and being generally offensive.  Leslie enlisted to serve in the Navy, but not so much in a brave & patriotic way but more as part of a plea deal to escape sentencing on criminal charges.  While enlisted, Leslie was the Navy boxing champion and went on to sufficiently embarrass his family and country by spending the remainder of his service in the Balboa Mental Health Hospital receiving much needed mental healthcare services.

"Leslie was surprisingly intelligent, however he lacked ambition and motivation to do anything more than being reckless, wasteful, squandering the family savings and fantasizing about get rich quick schemes.  Leslie's hobbies included being abusive to his family, expediting trips to heaven for the beloved family pets and fishing, which he was less skilled with than the previously mentioned.  Leslie's life served no other obvious purpose, he did not contribute to society or serve his community and he possessed no redeeming qualities besides quick whited sarcasm which was amusing during his sober days.

"With Leslie's passing he will be missed only for what he never did; being a loving husband, father and good friend.  No services will be held, there will be no prayers for eternal peace and no apologizes to the family he tortured.  Leslie's remains will be cremated and kept in the barn until 'Ray,' the family donkey's wood shavings run out.  Leslie's passing proves that evil does in fact die and hopefully marks a time of healing and safety for all."

    Credit where credit's due, that's a zinger.

But I will say this. I would be willing to wager that by TJ's graduation, he will have gone to multiple bowl games. Plural. :)

Between police and school security they had enough law enforcement there to stop a riot so they got both teams to their benches and after about 10-12 minutes they started back playing. Just another Tuesday night in the Piedmont.

On those rare "special occasions" that I do shave, I use a Trac II that I got before I went to college (about 32 years ago) and Edge.  Most of the time, I just use a trimmer with a #1 guard to "clean it up".

Oh, wait...you guys are talking about shaving your faces...nevermind...

That's what I'm saying. Blaker has the height and athletic ability, he just needs some weight and coaching. He may never step on the field but counting him out already because he's a walk on seems a little harsh coming from the fan base of a school that had a former walk on named second team all-American this year.

Cole is a good size kid with decent speed. Tech is talking about tight end or H back (if that's a correct position). He was 2nd team all state QB so he's no average Joe. Good talent who could easily carry another 40 to 50 lbs. Don't count this kid out just yet.

My former boss was an early enrollee at VT in the mid 90's knowing full well he would likely never see the field.  He was ridiculed by kids and adults alike in his hometown, mainly for his choice to not play basketball as a high school senior.  He used the additional semester to prepare himself for the rigors of the math associated with an engineering curriculum.  Statics, Thermal Dynamics, Strength of Materials and Accelerated Calculus among others are no joke!!!!!!!  Nor can many high schools prepare you for what those classes entail.  This is the main reason freshman engineering students are called "Pre-Business" majors.

He was on the team for five full seasons, rarely seeing the field and graduated with honors a few months following a national championship appearance.  His stature as a former player has opened doors for him as a professional engineer that otherwise would have been closed.  His career has been greatly enhanced based on the choices he made as a 17 year old kid.

Cut this kid some slack and lets see where his dreams take him!

Hated to see a result as lopsided as I thought it would be, but that Appomattox team is an all-time legend. As I said before, Richlands has nothing to be ashamed of. They are the class of far SWVA yet again, and will be so long as the program there remain intact.

Congrats, Richlands, on a very successful season.

Recruit from where? And to what? Don't recall seeing much industry to speak of in Appomattox. I'm guessing that a lot of the people there may work in Lynchburg, My guess is that they are just having a good run of athletes right now.
