  1. Galax vs JI Burton will be a premier matchup between two storied football programs in SWVA. I have seen Burton play, and I was impressed with their team. Burton is well gifted with a " large " offensive line, 3 good running backs, and a good QB. Their defense is stout, will bend , but does not break. I have been impressed with Burton all season. Using the ole cliché "them ole boys look good in warm ups, and on the funny side....."One coach told his opposing coach that his lineman was not fat, but just easy to see". Galax is rollin' into Norton loaded for bear. They will be the most talented team JIB has seen since game 1 with Union. Galax is for real. I am not going to say that I have seen Galax play, because I have not. What I do know, is that Galax has been impressive by competing with a very strong schedule and not backing down from anyone. Galax will bring a very strong running game, and very well coached team to Norton. Their backs run hard, and just keep coming after you. This matchup is one that a lot of folks have been waiting to see, well folks, the waiting is over come this weekend. Who ever you pick for this one, you can't go wrong. There will be no upset, as both teams are favorites by football fans. This is THE game in D1W in SWVA. Enough said, now lets play some football !
  2. They say that Richlands is an intimidating place to play. I will bet you 2 bits that one of Buckingham's players trips while getting off the bus. Any takers?
  3. 1. Appomattox by 21 (unbeaten at 10-0; and beat Dan River 35-7 in week 6 ) 2. Richlands by 14 ( Buckingham is winning by 47 to 14 margin; lost to unbeaten Appox by14-7 in 1st gm of season) 3. Glenvar by 7 ( Hard to beat Glenvar at home with strong defense) 4. Graham by 3 ( Very Hot team, capable of this upset )
  4. May God Bless all the people in France, and May God be with those families that lost love ones. May God be with all those wounded or injured. Amen .
  5. I agree folks that RR will be hard to beat, if they play well, and not dig themselves a hole in the 1st half. This game is at RR, isn't it ? If it is, RR is hard to beat at Community Stadium. Coach Dean Rhea set the foundation for that program years ago, and no matter who has been the coach, RR has been successful. Yep, RR by a TD at least.
  6. I think WDIC IN CLINTWOOD CARRIED THE REG SEASON GAMES. GOOGLE IT AND LISTEN.... I MAY BE WRONG , BUT I BET THEY WILL CARRY THE GAME ON IN NET. FOLKS CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG! . IF ALL ELSE, CALL THE STATION AND ASK!
  7. Just a few thought on Ridgeview. RV's appearance in the playoffs in their 1st season is something that many did not expect. I am not sure how Union, WCC, or Eastside did in their first year. Maybe some on you guys or Redtiger can help me out there. If Giles is their opponent, they will have to play an error free game, and be at their best Maybe Redtiger can get to go on the sidelines and give the Pack a little extra boost. That would be fitting for someone who has put so much in putting RV in the forefront this year in his community. Ridgeview is going to be force in D2 in years to come. They have those all important bloodlines from 2 good schools. The future appears to be very bright for RV, and this first season hasn't been too bad either. Best of Luck Pack, and go gettim" Redtiger.
  8. YEP, that is the same ole John Wayne Martin. To show you dudes just how old I am, I went to school with John Wayne. He lived just across the Smyth Co line in Washington County, but went to school in Chilhowie, where is mother taught school. Sort of the same thing that Washington Co Sheriff Fred Newman did. John Wayne was one of a kind in those good ole days. Yes, he coached at Castlewood, and later at Fort Chiswell. I bet he has umpired several thousand VHSL baseball and football games. If he is not in the VHSL HOF, then he should be. Sorry, I got carried away with John Wayne. I have to go with Ridgeview in this one. Ridgeview has played a tough schedule, and is healthy now. They know that they HAVE to win this one, and Honaker can survive a lose, and still be in the playoffs. Ridgeview by 1.
  9. Chappy, You are exactly right on with this one. It is going to be a dog fight, with NW and Doane, and PH with Humphery. Two good teams and a load of points going to the winner. Doane is one of the best QB's in the D1 West, and Humphery is one of the best RB's in D1 West. I have to go with PH, but just by 1. If Doane performs like I think he will, well NW just may take this thing into OT. At the same time, No one has been able to come close to stopping Humpy all year, so I just can't see Humpy getting less than 275 yds and several TD's. Best of Luck to both teams in Saltville tonight.
  10. Hey there Hhstigers7327, please read my previous post. Please man let's all give smiley a break and forgive and forget his post and this whole darn thread. Man, life is way too short to let small things get under our skin. I think smiley has learned a lot since his initial thread and post. Heck, I have even learned a lot, so let us all just put this whole thing aside and get on with our usual post. I am doing just that, and I feel that would be in the best interest of smiley and all the other members of the site. With younger people, sometimes it takes a while for them to see what things in the world is all about. I realize that words can offend and hurt when it comes our way, especially from our youth, but it is the responsibility of the elders on the great Earth to help them, and give sound advise to them. May God Bless us all, and especially, smiley.
  11. Hey smiley, everyone has bad days and good days, and I'm sure your not a bad dude. Let's just forget the whole thing with your thread, and start over. Hey, My team is from the Hogo too, and these guys here treat me just fine. Respect is a 2 way street. I respect everyone on this web site. I may not always agree with every comment or post, but I respect their right to post their opinion. With some of these guys, it seems as if I know them, but I have never met them in person.I have enjoyed football for over 60 years of my life. I hope to have a few more years to post comments like this one, but I realize my days are getting shorter on this earth. Your life is just getting started, my friend. We are all your friend in Christ. Enjoy the moment and live life to it's fullist. May God Bless you today and everyday in the days to come.
  12. The HOGO has a bit of an image problem, and he is not the PR person to help fix it !
  13. Just hold your tater there smiley. Redtiger is one of the most respected members of this site, and his opinion is highly regarded by just about everyone. Lets get that stuff out of the way and talk some football. GW is for real, and so is RR. Both are talented teams. GW is real big and fast. RR is strong in the line also. RR runs that veer with ease, and can pass well. GW, we all know has won State Champs before, and RR has gone deep into the playoffs several times. This is at GW, which to me will give the edge to GW by 1. Best of luck to both teams.
  14. They must be ! I am pulling for the underdogs, teams 8-16 ! Good luck to all those teams!!!!
  15. Redtiger knows his football. He is right in that the Warriors did not look all that bad in pre-season. They won their first game, and had the lead on JIB in the 4th qrt. before dropping the game.Chilhowie may be the youngest team in SWVA, starting several Freshmen on O and D. Coach Robinson started using his freshmen a little at a time, until they gained confidence and could see they could play with the big boys. When the Freshmen were 8th graders, no one could touch them, not even Abingdon or Gate City. They yielded only 6 points all season on defense. These Freshmen are the heart of Chilhowie's future, along with a very talented group of Juniors. The Warriors have taken their lumps the past 2 years, but next year should be a very different season for Chilhowie. Coach Robinson knows what he has coming, so I wouldn't run the score up on his Warriors this year.......next year is just a few months away.
  16. Patrick Henry's RB Humphrey may score every time he touches the ball against Chilhowie. This may turn ulgy fast, and I can see VHSL records fall, as Chilhowie's defense is very young. Humphrey got 347 yards against a good GW defense; I don't even want to think what he will do to Chilhowie's young freshman oriented defense. The running clock may start early in this one. This is no knock against the Warriors, but Chilhowie is just a very young team. Chilhowie is looking at another 1-9 season. The best they can do is 2-8, if they can knock off Holston next week. Patrick Henry is a solid team, and is very capable of winning several playoff games. At some point, Chilhowie is going to learn to play some defense, and excuses for not winning are getting old.
  17. I know that several Dickenson County School Board members and maybe the Dickenson County School Bd. Superinendent read post on this web site. Having said that, we are all waiting for you guys to give Redtiger a call, and put the young man to work at Ridgeview. He is ready, willing and able to put his knowledge and talents to work. Redtiger is the missing link. You will not be disappointed!
  18. This game will help Abingdon in the post season. They will face teams just as good as Richlands early in the playoffs in Div 3. Richlands is a very good D2 team. No team in SWVA better than Richlands at this point, not even Union.
  19. Reckon Graham announcer creamed his coffee with Jim Beam?
  20. Good employees are hard to find. In the case of Ridgeview, it's going to take a while for the team to jell. I can see someone with the knowledge of Redtiger to help develop this program, and work with the staff to help the kids adjust also. I was a school board member for six years in my county, and I certainly would consider him for a position on the staff.
  21. Ridgeview High school is missing a great opportunity for their football program.I have never met Redtiger, but it seems like I know the guy just by reading his post on this site. He seems like the type of guy that would go through hell and high water for his team.I have no idea what he does, but schools needs a " Redtiger" on their staff. If I was Ridgeview, I would make room for this guy and put him to work. I really believe he would make a very positive contribution to the new program. Just my thoughts.
  22. The Bland Bears. What a story. I just can't go against these guys. I know that Graham is tough, better than their record. It will take a flawless game by the Bears to beat Graham, but Bland just may pull it off. Just hope no one gets hurt.
  23. May God be with Coach Clark during this very difficult time. May God comfort the Clark family and help ease the pain of his lose. We ask this in the name of our Holy Father Jesus Christ. Amen
