  1. I have been "out-of-pocket" for awhile and missed much of the football season to date.  Clicked on the SWVAsports board this am to catch up and WTF!  GC fans and their version of "Days of our Lives" have firmly migrated here.  Much like soap operas, you really don't need to watch often, one or two episodes and you are all caught up on the misery and woe.  SSDD, if you know what I mean.

Hint(s) for some of the more brash, newer posters:  (1) Don't piss off he who wields the hammer; and (2) UVAO knows his stuff.  You better have your ducks in a row before entering battle with either.

I would be curious to see how he does defensively at the AAU games.  I havent watched any of those games just the highlights like everyone else around here I guess.  Vermillion is a defensive coach but I do believe he asked Mac to play the lanes and take advantage of anything he can but stay out of foul trouble for GC.  Thats just a guess but watching him play for GC versus the way historically GC has played ball under Vermillion I believe that to be the case.

I think defense is outlawed at AAU events.

That's something that you never have to explain...just be mean for the hell of it...

Since permission has been granted...I think there is a certain poster on here who may have some "inside" information on the NBA finals tonight.  Reckon he can tell me how many games the series will go? Or how Curry is feeling? I need to recoup some of my gambling losses...

  4. For what it is worth...

Team Loaded Virginia has STRONG UVA ties.  Two UVA coaches sons play for the team and I THINK Tim Taylor coaches the team (or he used to before returning to the UVA women's team as associate head coach).  I believe that his son still plays for the squad.

I am not implying that Mac is headed to UVA or that there is interest from either side but...for a team that struggles to score, a high flying scoring machine with MOXIE would be someone I would be interested in...

EDIT:  Just looked it up...T. Taylor coaches Team Loaded 434.  I guess that is an arm of Team Loaded Virginia?  Either way, the Team Loaded Virginia website indicates that they have some SERIOUS talent and alumni.

  5. Lee had a 17-1 run in which they were just throwing themselves at the ball, every rebound was a battle royal, cross checking was rampant (ala hockey) and they were called for ONE foul during that stretch.  They were down 16 and threw caution to wind...do not blame them at all, they were floundering at that point.  But the officials allowed them to get away with murder during that run.  DR never had a chance.  I think the officials were a bit overwhelmed by it all for a 6 minute period there.

  6. After watching all the games at JMU this past weekend, I was privileged to see some really good players and some awesome plays.  But the funniest thing happened between the Richlands and Amelia cheerleaders.

For quick background, when East Rock went to Amelia the Amelia cheerleaders would wait until ER's girls did their cheer then comeback with something or their own and "throw it" back at ER.  A kind of "bring it on" theme.  They did the same thing v. Madison.

During the Richlands/ Amelia game, the Richlands cheerleaders were doing a kind of line dance to "cotton-eye Joe"...and Richlands has a bunch of cheerleaders.  The Amelia cheerleaders were flabbergasted at the "line dance".  One of them started her rendition of the moves when the head cheerleader(?) took her by the arm and vehemently shook her head saying "NO".  The poor girl was so awkward with line dance moves...kinda' looked like me trying to break dance.  Maybe you had to be there but it was hilarious.

  7. In a previous thread, someone called McClung selfish or a showboat or both.  That is pure BS.  I saw that kid play his arse off tonight and I would take him all day every day and any day.  He recognized the hustle of teammates, fed the open guy and was the best player in the State quarterfinals at JMU today.  My hat is off to the kid.  Good luck wherever he ends up!

  8. I believe parking is free in the big lot adjacent to the Convocation Center.  However, there are a lot of lots in the immediate area which are permit only.  I will be over there Thursday and will check for sure.

If any of you gomers are coming up Friday, me and my Big Bro plan on spending the day there watching basketball.  I am hoping for a Madison County/Richlands semi-final game and a Madison County/Gate City Final.  If that were to happen, since East Rock beat Madison once this year, I can take the VT tact of saying ER should be co-champ!

  9. I would not characterize Tebow as arrogant but there is no doubt he is confident.  Terrell Owens was absolutely gifted and liked to let the world know just how gifted.  All "stud" players have supreme confidence in their abilities...some just exhibit it more than others.  High school kids are the same.  Nothing wrong with knowing you are good...

  10. When East Rock got knocked out by Amelia, we started following Madison (they are just over the hill from us and my son plays AAU with several of the Madison players).  We (ER) lost to Amelia because they shot 75% from the field.  They are small, nobody over 6'2".  #44 is a solid post player but undersized.  He is surprisingly shifty in the paint though.  #30 is the ball handler and has good range and nice stroke.  He hit a 30 footer at Madison to send that game into overtime.  #5 is the :enforcer".  If Bill Lambeer has an illegitimate son, #5 is him.

Amelia will try to trap early but if you show that you can beat it, they get back off.  They are frigging relentless on the boards however.  Be ready for some serious 5 men on the boards if you do not show the capability to block out.  But at the end of the day, Amelia is a decent team but not a state quarterfinal caliber team IMHO.

  11. #2 and #10 just "love" crowd interaction, as does the coach.  Have fun with them!  Lee's attitude started turning sour when Madison's 5'9 guard blocked a dunk attempt by Lee's 6"8 center.  Needless to say, the crowd reminded him of that often.

I would like to see a GC/Madison final.  Madison may be one of the few teams who may travel even better than GC, or at least equal. Would be a great atmosphere.
