Tough to win a game when incompetent refs are calling the game. McClung is for real, but Union playing tough and had three huge no calls.

Personally I think McClung is the only difference. I don't think the officiating is playing a factor.

Was a good game and great atmosphere. Ervin and Dean didn't have a good game like they usually do but McClung picked up the slack. Ervin was a body out there...But that was about it. Don't think Dean hardly even attempted a 3 pt bucket which is rare for him. Aside from McClung, the offense was stagnant. Rebounding was yet again bad for GC and failed to guard the backdoor cuts. Still a good win for the Devils...Union is a good team. Will be an interesting game at Union when they play again.

Hats off to Slagle....Really good player and tough to guard in the paint. Kid knows how to score. He probably had 30 pts or more himself. Mitchell had a good first half but didn't seem like he did as much damage in the 2nd half. Still probably had a double double himself though.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Mac light it up like he did tonight. He was on another level! The guys weren't healthy....But still no excuse for the lack of offense from the other guys. Union absolutely did not respect Kimbler from 3 at all....Left him open all night and wouldn't even come out to guard him. The guy can shoot the ball really well....He just doesn't take many shots. I think he needs to get his confidence going and pull the trigger without hesitation when he's that open. He stepped up and hit a couple of those tonight. Maybe everyone just wanted to get Mac the ball and let him do his thing....Which is understandable.

How about that FT shooting for GC? 20-25. It was the difference tonight. The Slagle kid can play ball and so can Mitchell with his mid range skills. I for one thought GC played good defense vs a very screen heavy offense. One thing I did notice and hopefully Scotty will to before going up to Union. Union takes the ball to the left 9 out of 10 possessions. The placd was rockin tonight. Go Big Blue!!!

When you're hot, you're hot. GC has no problem feeding the guy with the hot hand. I knew once I saw Mac during warmups he was on a mission tonight. The kid played almost perfect. I over heard Goforth (Union AD) when I was leaving, say that McClung is the best athlete he's ever seen.

If someone had told me before the game that Ervin would only score 10 and Dean would end with 5... I would have said GC probably loses this game. Just an unreal performance by McClung. Maybe the best performance I've ever seen personally. Mac cleaned up his FT shooting tonight big time too....I think he was 100% from the stripe if I'm not mistaken.

Couple of comments from my seat.. First, McClung couldn't be guarded tonight. Plain and simple. Kid is the real deal, I even like his emotion although most opposing team fans would probably disagree. Second, Ervin obviously wasn't him self. I've watched him play for years and you could tell he was struggling. Other than those 2, GC wasn't very deep at all. Third, I hate to say I was right in my earlier comment but Union's lack of experience coming off the bench cost them a ballgame tonight. We have consistently only played 7 kids, only 2 of those kids seem to be interested in going to the basket and scoring (Slagle and Mitchell). Everybody else just wants to let the 3's fly. When Slagle went out, it was over for Union. I think we scored 4 points after he fouled out. I've said all season we needed to get more kids involved that are scorers, and I think there a couple that never get in most games that could do that and give Slagle and Mitchell a breather or help in foul trouble situations. All in all, a well played game.

Oh and for the record, the "drunk Union fan" was about 3 rows behind me and I nor anyone else had any clue who the dude was but it was the best thing to happen all night for him to be escorted out.

Normally Dean stretches a defense out like crazy with the deep ball. He just isn't himself yet with the sprained wrist. Collier still hasn't had the big breakout game like he did last year against MHS...I'm still waiting on that to happen again. When the young guys gain more confidence and start getting a lil more involved on offense...GC will fire on all cylinders.

No matter who he was a "fan" of, it's uncalled for and I'm glad the issue was resolved. No one around me recognized the guy, not sure who he is, if he's even a fan of either school. Thought I heard him yelling "GC" as he was escorted out. Cuff em and stuff em either way!

PS: I think he bummed the liquor from the refs!!!

Union kept whoever was guarding Kimbler inside to try and help stop Mac's penetration. Was not a bad idea, except it really did not stop Mac. If Noah would have hit a few threes early, no doubt they would have abandoned that strategy quickly.

I was real surprised Mitchell guarded Mac. I initially thought Mitchell's length and leaping ability would give Mac problems. Obviously I was wrong. Mac penetrated at will against him, and somehow shot over him several times. Union can't put Slagle on Mac. That would lead to Slagle fouling out early in the game.

With Zac and Dean still not healthy, I think Mac did what he had to do tonight. Truth be told, I think he could score 40 points almost every game. Not sure he can be stopped one-on-one.

In the rematch, whoever guards Slagle will need to stay on him, and not leave him to help out. He is by far their best basketball player.

With two of the "big three" clearly not healthy, I was very pleased with the win.
