SXSW Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 Well the grand tournament begins on Friday. 230 teams across 9 different divisions begin their quest for the a state title. Some of the Classes are pretty cut and dried. No one is beating South Pittsburg in 1A, or Alcoa in 3A and Oakland is huge favorite in 6A. 2A, 5A are going to be fun to watch play out. The 4A Bracket is brutal ! There are just 14 teams across the 9 Classes undefeated and an astonishing 53 teams with losing records, including multiple games in which both team are under .500 will be played! In Region 1, 1A: Cosby (8-2) hosts Rockwood (4-6), Cloudland (4-4) travels to Oliver Springs (8-2) the bottom of the bracket Harriman (7-3) travels to Baileyton to play North Greene. The Huskies are (6-3) the winner will get the winner of Jellico (3-6) which visits Coalfield (8-2).. In Region 1 2A: The Rebels of South Greene (8-1) host Tellico Plains (6-4) and the winner plays the winner of Bledsoe County (9-1) and Eagleton (6-4) the other side of the bracket has Polk County (4-6) visiting Elizabethton to play the Happy Valley Warriors (7-1) and the homeless Hampton Bulldogs (3-6) make the long, long journey to Jamestown, TN to play the Dragons of York Institute (8-2) In Region 1, 3A: Unicoi County (9-1) hosts (1-9) Union County. The winner gets the Gatlinburg-Pittman (7-3) and Kingston (5-5), the bottom of the bracket is the Alcoa side, so nothing else matters! But we will list them anyway Johnson County (8-2) hosts the Roadrunners of Austin-East (3-7) and the winner get Alcoa (8-1) who plays Pigeon Forge (5-5) In Region 1, 4A: The bracket of death, this whole bracket is loaded from top to bottom...Greeneville (7-2) host Carter (4-6) and the winner gets the Gibbs (9-1) / Cherokee (7-2) winner. The other half of the bracket is Fulton (6-4) traveling to Elizabethton to play the Cyclones (6-3) and the winner get the winner of Anderson County (9-1) and Northview Academy of Kodak (5-5) In Region 1, 5A: Tennessee High (8-2) travels to Powell (8-2) with the winner getting either Sevier County (10-0) or Knox Central (4-6) and the southside of the bracket is Halls (7-3) visiting Morristown West (4-5) and they get the winner of Davy Crockett (4-5) or Knox West (7-3) In region 1, 6A. Dobyns Bennett (8-2) play a rematch against Farragut (4-6) they played way back in week zero in August. the winner of that game plays the Bearden (7-3) vs. Jefferson County (6-4). The bottom of the bracket is Cleveland (7-3) playing Science Hill (7-2) in Johnson City and the winner get the trip to Maryville (9-1) who has a post season scrimmage against William Blount (4-6).. Get out and enjoy the games, it's playoff time in Tennessee. swva_havok_fan, redtiger and JDHoss 2 1 Quote
swva_havok_fan Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 I have a bad feeling we're going to lose this rematch to Farragut. They're playing so much better than they did in week 1, but so are we to be honest. Going to be interesting. I feel upper east Tennessee teams left after this week will be slim. I think South Greene, Unicoi County, Johnson County and Greeneville win for sure. North Greene, Cloudland, Happy Valley, Hampton, Cherokee, Tennessee High, David Crockett all lose for sure. Elizabethton, D-B and Science Hill are toss ups. Quote
Queue Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 Looks like a whole lot of hurricane cancellations reflected in those records... Quote

Region 1 is at a distinct disadvantage come playoff time, the eastern teams play weak regular season teams in their region and are too far from quality opponents in middle Tennessee. Greeneville will always play hard games in the regular season but DB and Science Hill need to schedule some Nashville Teams to get them ready for the playoffs. Science Hill scheduled Anderson County but the game was called due to weather. Quote

Thunder storm cancellations in August and Hurricane cancellations in September, a few team in Tennessee play 9 game regular seasons, because of scheduling issues Quote
JDHoss Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 Looks like the only games I’ll have an option for watching on Friday night after Thanksgiving will be Greeneville at Anderson Co or DB/SH at Murville, or maybe there will be a good VA matchup on Friday night in Region C. Quote

The top of that bracket is brutal. It has Greeneville, Elizabethton, Anderson County and Upperman in it just to get to Chattanooga. JDHoss 1 Quote

SXSW Posted November 8 Author Report Posted November 8 I've seen Greeneville 4 times this year, the have the talent but play very undisciplined football, to many personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, they are relatively young too. The QB and best WR's are back next year but if the don't win this year it may be a long time, because Alcoa is moving up to 4A next year. Alcoa is a bunch of freshman, sophomores and juniors. So they can win it, yes! but will they that's why they play the games and footballs take funny bounces 10 hours ago, goose111874 said: Is Greenville the favorite to win state Quote

SXSW Posted November 8 Author Report Posted November 8 Region 2 4A..next year should be Gibbs, Fulton, Anderson County, Alcoa, Carter, Seymour and South Doyle Quote

Oak Ridge or Bearden? I have heard both schools mentioned, but figure only one of those will. Quote

tbgfan Posted November 9 Report Posted November 9 6A Blackman Blaze of Murfreesboro (5-5) beat Green Hill last night (10-0) by a score of 45-14. They play Riverdale next week in playoffs. Blackman gives Green Hill first loss to advance in 6A playoffs - Main Street Media of Tennessee Unranked Blackman limped into Green Hill Stadium last Friday with an average record, an injured quarterback, coming off a three-turnover loss and facing an unbeaten region champion. The Blaze walked out a couple of hours later with a powerful 45-14 upset of No. 4 Green Hill in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs. Quote
vol_husky Posted November 9 Report Posted November 9 Well. Harriman stomped us last night. They are FAST. Quote

swva_havok_fan Posted November 11 Report Posted November 11 As expected... very few upper east Tennessee teams escaped round 1: 6A: Dobyns-Bennett beat Farragut 42-24 and host Bearden next Science Hill beat Cleveland 30-28 and head to Maryville next 4A: Greeneville destroyed Carter 56-7 and host Gibbs next Elizabethton squeaked by Fulton 14-13 and travel to Anderson County next 3A: Unicoi County blasted Union County 56-16 and host Gatlinburg-Pittman next My prediction is that only Greeneville will be left after Friday. Hope I am wrong though, especially on D-B's behalf. Quote

I think that the DB-Bearden will be fun to watch I think DB can win, but they have tp play the way they did against Science Hill to do it.. The TSSAA playoffs are so predictable. A, 3A and 6A are going to have the same teams favored every years and the rest is a crap shoot, of and the 5A champ always comes from Knoxville.. Quote
1inStripes Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 I know they lost their QB but I could still see Unicoi beating GP. It could go either way. Saw my cousin at family funeral last night and noticed his son in a sling. Was in a car accident the night after DB beat Science Hill so he is done for the year for the Indians and hated to see it. Hopefully he can make it back for baseball with it being his senior year and probably his best start. Quote
JDHoss Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 As expected, no one from East Tennessee advances past round 2 except for Greeneville, and as undisciplined as Greeneville is, I don't see them winning at Anderson County on Friday. Quote
