Not going to be cancelled.  We will know today by 3 pm if Liberty can play.  If Liberty can not play, Brigham Young will be coming to Conway to play the Chants.  If this happens, it will be a matchup of 2 top 15 schools and the Gameday crew will have a solid matchup.  Liberty would also be a solid matchup, but the winner of the Coastal vs BYU game will be in the Super Six for sure.

They did most of their shooting from Fincastle Country Club.  I showed them the shot of the two schools...shot starts with BHS and pans down the valley to GHS.  They did that shot from behind #17 tee.  The opening was on the practice putting green,  The shot that starts at 1:38 is behind #17 tee (I was there behind the camera man).  The shot at 2:25 of the train is on Virginia Ave. at the state line (of course) and then on 460 going in the WV, just past Food City.  The shot at 5:43 is the shot that I showed them that pans from school to school.  Those guys stayed at Fincastle playing golf when they weren't out getting video.  They ended up giving me a sweatshirt that they go the week before from Trinity High School in Louisville, KY for all the help when the week was over.

They are standing on Leatherwood Farms Property, and they are to the South (Mountain Side of 460).  460 would be to their North.  Yes, they are looking down, from the bottom of the mountain/hill in the cow pasture of Leatherwood farms with East River Mountain behind them, and they are looking at the pasture lands where you now have the Physicians Offices directly straight ahead of them.  Slightly, very slightly to their left, but in view is the Lowes/Walmart/McDonalds area of today.  But, if you could draw a straight line from where they are standing, it would bisect the current Outpatient Physicians Offices.

When it comes down to his NBA prospects, I think he’s a classic “tweener”.  You only see prospects with his measurables “stick” as a PG, and his A/TO ratio is not at all good for that slot (just a fraction over 1:1).  He’s badly undersized for a SG/wing slot in the NBA.  His 3-point shooting thus far in his collegiate career has been dreadful (30.5% on reasonably high volume).  He’s good-not-great on 2s (46.5%) and FTs (80.5%).

There’s time to turn those numbers around, and time to improve some of the measurables.  When all’s said and done, I think he carves out a really nice, lengthy career overseas.  Not a bad life to be pulling $250K/year while living in the French Riviera.

    Confederate Flag story.
In 1957 Big Creek went undefeated but finished third in the ratings. Until 1972 only the top two teams played for the championship in each class in WV. Big Creek thought that they were screwed out of the championship game because the WVSSAC gave Weir a late point for a Martins Ferry win. Big Creek sued and lost (the WVSSAC was in fact correct). The WVSSAC was vindictive and banned Big Creek from all sports in 1958. After a disappointing 1958 season Bluefield lured coach Merrill Gainer away from Big Creek in 1959. Bluefield went undefeated and won the WV AAA championship. In 1960 Bluefield again went undefeated but only finished 4th in the ratings behind Weir (9-1), Nitro (10-0), and East Bank (9-0). Bluefield fans and others 'down south" felt as Bluefield was robbed just like they thought Big Creek was in 1957. They adopted the southern rebel attitude because the south was always getting screwed. They adopted the rebel flag as the school symbol and the fight song became "Dixie". This lasted all the way thru the 1967 season. Gainer left after the season for Patrick Henry and John Chmara was promoted to head coach. More importantly Park Central was closed for good. Although the rebel flag and Dixie were not used for racist reasons the leaders at the school and the city knew that this would not work in a completely integrated school. Mayor Ed Elliot (who was also the play by play radio announcer at that time) and others sat down to consider the situation. They knew that the people of Bluefield would not abandon the song and the flag without replacements. That is when they came up with the "We Believe" slogan and the logo with the Beaver inside the "B". They printed massive quantities of T shirts and sold the logo on everything including front car tags. They adopted on Wisconsin as the fight song and the band was no longer allowed to play Dixie. A tremendous marketing campaign went on the promote the new image, It obviously worked.
An interesting side note to the 1967 game. Bill Jarrett was the new coach at Stonewall Jackson in 1967 and that was the opponent in the championship game. In one of the articles in a Charleston newspaper the reporter was asking him all the usual questions about the game. At the end of the article he asked Jarrett who was going to win. Jarrett response was. "I don't know but they aren't going to go up there (Parkersburg) and play Dixie all day". Of course Bluefield did go up there and wave the flags and play Dixie all day. The irony of the situation is the Charleston school was named for the Confederate General Stonewall Jackson who was a native of what is now WV. General Jackson certainly would not have minded the flags and the music that day.

If you watch the 1962 championship game video on the same site and watch the post game awards you clearly see Bluefield waving a large Confederate flag on the field after the game,

Agree 100%.  Lateral quickness will be/is a huge issue for him when talking about the NBA level.  Even with desire and good coaching to get better defensively, does he have the lateral quickness to cover at the NBA level.  One thing he does have to his advantage to compensate is his arm length and ups.  He has long arms and 6'2 is more like 6'3 or 6'4 with his wingspan, but he had insane hops which can allow him to play off at least a little bit to anticipate the dribble.  It will be interesting to see.  I hope he makes it.  He's in a good program and I'm sure he knows and understands that much like UVA, same for Texas Tech, if you don't play defense, you don't play, period.

Give WV credit.  They tried and didn't cancel the season.  If you were going to play football in the fall, you were going to have a clusterf.  With Covid 19, that was a given.  WV has done their best to meet the challenges of an ever changing virus that drops off, comes back, takes a rest, then returns hard, etc.  Many fans would choose clusterf over no football at all.  WV knew what it was doing.  They knew the virus would cause issues and ebbs and flows, and that they would literally, by the week, have to make adjustments.  I don't think they've done a bad job.  I give em credit for trying.  By the way, if you are a Bluefield Beaver, this season isn't a clusterf at all, lol.  It's an opportunity for another state title, and the Beavers might just pull it off.
I will always choose effort over simply throwing in the towel and just bailing out.  Most would probably say that WV really messed this thing up and it wasn't pretty and they kind of failed.  OK, that's fine.  I still applaud the effort to give a go any day.

Wow, that's a big deal for Oak Glen.  I've been researching them some the past few days and it looks like they are actually good enough to win a state title.  Not saying they would or will, but from what I've read, looking at their scores, talking to officials who have had them, they are very, very good and good enough to beat any of the 3 remaining teams including Bluefield and Fairmont.  If Oak Glen doesn't play in the semi's, the Bluefield and Fairmont winner may have got a gift.  CalPreps has Oak Glen by 11 over R.C. Byrd.   I know a few people down this way have penciled in Bluefield or Fairmont as the state champs, but I'm telling ya guys, Oak Glen is just as good or better this year than Bluefield or Fairmont.

But those things are going to happen.  We knew they would with Covid.  I guess we just accept it.  The virus hits when it wants to hit.  TN and WV have made adjustments on the fly, even if 5 minutes before kickoff.  We knew there would be cancellations and things and this is more due to Covid 19, not the people running the state athletics organizations.  I applaud them, they have tried to drive on with a season and they have put there foot down to keep the public safe, even if 5 minutes before kickoff.  It's not an easy juggling act, but it's just that, it's a juggling act.

I think its solved then.  I've read this thread for arguments of 4 and 6.  It seems like this discussion everywhere seems to have strong pro's and con's with 4 and 6.  Like I wrote earlier, split the difference and go to 5 classes.  5 is easy.  No change needed, you don't need a nickle and 1 penny (6 classes) and you don't need 4 pennies (4 classes), you just need a straight up ole nickle, lol.  With 5, I still think it's good enough to where the playoffs and state titles are not devalued, and I think if you have 5, a team that was likely going to win a state title with 6 classes will still win it with 5 classes.
Now, if you want some real cool stuff that will never happen again unfortunately because of money.  Return the state championships back to the local schools.  We used to rotate every 2 years when it was like this with the East getting 2 years of field and the West getting 2 years of home field, etc.  Lets have those state title games back on the homefield's of Giles, Graham, Union, Richlands, or Rustburg, William Campbell, Riverheads, etc.  Wishful thinking here.
