They're pretty decent. They seem to have had a return to form this year. "As goes Marion's hot dog chili, so goes their football team."
However, they no longer have hotdogs at the home side concession stand which creates a major logjam at the main concession stand just inside the gate. Poor logistical planning, in my opinion.

Having seen it in person, the scoreboard did not reflect how lopsided that game was. Marion dominated all three phases of the game, and penalties were the only thing that kept that score respectable. With Richlands doing what they did to Gate City, I think it's safe to say that the SWD is VERY deep this year.
Also, for most people this goes without saying, but never take the scores of benefit games as an actual barometer of a team's abilities. 8 days ago Chilhowie topped Tazewell and Marion was routed by Fort in benefit games, and now we know that probably wasn't the best reflection of any of those teams.

    3-0 in Tazewell County!
Marion makes it 4-1 from the SWD (obviously, someone had to lose THS/VHS).

I know it's kind of a distant memory, but it's a memory nonetheless; Marion is a very proud basketball school. They've put players in the pros, have two coaches in the VHSL Hall of Fame, and (albeit a LONG Time ago) have beaten both the red and gold teams of Oak Hill. Most folks remember if you didn't beat the end of day class bell into Hurricane House, you weren't going to get a seat in the home bleachers. Marion has always sat in both the home and away bleachers, but they're traditionally kind enough to stay behind their bench. Just like GC in football, just because the team isn't drawing the crowds it used to, tradition says that fans are not going to stick to the home side, even if there are seats available. That is "old school" for Marion.
