Most everyone that played for Phil had an issue at one time or another, including myself...but that's not the point here. I just realized the picture I had in my mind all these years concerning this play were all wrong...and my judgement of the play was all wrong based on what I thought had happened vs what actually happened. Until about 15 minutes ago, I agreed all these years with you hokiebird. Now that I know it wasn't anything but a short pass that a kid took to the house, I don't.

Is Asbury a senior? If so, him and Spears are by far the two best in the 2A West.
 
 
Sturgill at Abingdon is a beast as well.

I wouldnt mind RIchlands being the #1 seed because that means we would avoid them untill a potential state title game unless we fall to four.

And BTW, why would you want to play Richlands again? They may be the best team in the state, it took all Union had to beat them at home. Now Union was without one of its best playmakers in Noaks, but I would not count on Asbury throwing those INTs again. Id much rather have to play Glenvar/Giles/Appomattox/Buckingham than Richlands again.

The winning percentages of some of these schools are damned impressive!  How is it possible Powell Valley only had one sub-.500 regular season between 1969 and 2010?  That has to be one of the most impressive stats I have ever seen.

JIB must have really had an off night to start the season, they are 7-1 with the only loss being the drubbing at Norton by Union.
 
 
As a Union fan, I want to avoid playing Gate City again in the playoffs, they are very dangerous. Ridgeview and Central don''t really scare me, but GC does.

Believe we will have to settle this on the field at Salem, and Noaks wil play this time :)

Honestly, yeah. Maybe slightly closer. But Richlands is loaded on both sides of the ball, and Asbury/Blankenship are a very tough duo stop. I hope Union can avoid Richlands as long as possible come playoff time

I always get a kick out of these types of strings/posts.  They almost always follow the same formula.  I "pick this team" by a score of (fill in the blank).  Then somebody's nose gets out of joint and demands to know how/why you could possibly have made that prediction.  Then somebody throws the "we beat this by 50 and you only beat them by 40 so we are going to win".  Then, somebody else points out that it rained/snowed/ or some other phenomena occurred.  Then somebody defends the first prediction (but then wishes everybody good luck).  Somebody defends EVERYBODY else's picks and then tells everybody to grow up.  Egos are bruised, opinions are bashed, etc.  Then, at the end of the day, the losing side lavishes credit on the team they just lost to.  A love fest ensues (among most, not all).  Then we do it all over again.
 
Yeah, I know before it is said..."if we didn't argue back and forth it wouldn't be any fun..."  But some get SOOOOO worked up over other people's predictions against THEIR boys.  I am not saying that there is anything wrong with any of this; it is just comical to see/read the posts and know almost exactly what the responses will be.
 
Personally, I seldom make predictions on high school sporting events.  There are too many variables at play.  16-18 year old boys (or 20 somethings if speaking of GC) are way too easily affected by Mary Jane Rottencrotch breaking up with him; or failing an English test; or not having gas money; or reading message board BS posts; or whatever. 
 
A couple of weeks ago, I saw a game up here in the Valley where one team was clearly better, based on records, like opponents, etc.  But they lost because of the inspired play of one RB who was reportedly "pissed" off because a player from the other team insulted his truck on a message board!  That brought back memories from Fast Times at Ridgemont High...check it out for those of you too young to have seen the flick. 
 
And just what is the point of this post you may ask.  There is no point.  It is just an observation; one person's opinion.  Just like predictions are one person's opinion.

I agree with u but one of the kids for Union are running out of chances and I would hate to see something happen. The refs should have got the 2 coaches together and put a stop to it. I know both teams were running their mouths but we have a chance to go deep in the playoffs and need to play a little smarter.

I can attest to how dangerous the Richlands return game is. Their athletes are capable of taking a kick to the house at any time.

Unions passing game is nothing to snub. Gavin and Mitchell are two of the best WR this area has. And for the most part, we held their passing game in check.
 
I think Richlands secondary can cover the Falcons receivers enough. But can Abingdon cover Richlands?

The biggest and the most pathetic was the thin skinned official, He needs to be suspended and reviewed.

Dawgsforlife are you by chance one of those big stone gap police officers that were intimidating senior citizens at football games? I'm going to go out on a limb and say you are one of the resident jacknuts from Union. 99% of Union fans are respectful and appreciate tradition. Unionfan and ALL the other Union fans on this forum are humble and proud ( in a good way). Taking a cheap shot at GC while they are down is juvenile at best. You guys may draw GC in the playoffs. I personally think Richlands is a  better team than Union, but Union beat us fare and square and right now are the better team until we can or can't prove otherwise. As a Union fan ( and you are the only one ) I wouldn't be so quick to discredit GC considering they gave Union all they could handle. All other Union fans like I said you guys beat us head to head 3 years in a row and I respect your program just like I do GC's program. Richlands, GC and Union's programs deserve respect for their tradition, tough schedules and dedication to fundamentals even in a down year.

We may not feel like we are lesser competition, but let's face the "big" NET teams view us that way. Heck, even the eastern VA teams, in our own classification, view us as lesser competition.
 
We are those "poor inbred mountain people". I guarantee you that David Crockett only scheduled Union because they thought it would be an easy victory. Sullivan North ONLY scheduled Union the last 2 years because they didn't have a choice. They dropped us after '12, but couldn't fill they're schedule so had to pick us back up. Notice we're not playing them this cycle.
 
Union has had a hard time with scheduling. Teams in NET don't typically want to play us "hillbillies" in SWVA. They know that our best teams are better than MOST of their teams, but as long as they don't play us it won't be proven.
 
I agree with you, but, unfortunately, NET can't take the chance of being humiliated.

Union at Middleboro in 2013 was beyond ridiculous. When a Middleboro player walks up to an official AFTER the play, points at a Union player and motions that he was held, and the official throws a flag you know it's going to be a long night...and it was. Then there was a phantom 30 yard unsportsmanlike penalty that the ref couldn't even tell Turner what it was for. I dread going to Letcher.
