Boy-o-boy what a football game we witnessed! Congrats to both teams on a well played game. I don't know that I have ever see two more evenly matched teams. The rest of Virginia 2A better take notice!!

Sometimes, even all the handicapped spots are taken, but I would assume if you guys got into the park, the police officers that always linger near the gates would find somewhere close for you guys to park. I am just going to get a ride down there near game time and catch a ride home, forget trying to park lol.

In 2008 maybe?, I remember having to park at damn near Wachovia (now Wells Fargo, the bank on the main strip in Big Stone) and walk to the park. Not fun, especially walking back after a loss. Traffic leaving is also a HUGE mess, its one big clusterf***.

The Union twitter does a great job most of the time who gives timely updates and score information, so if any Union fans are not available to get to a game or get a game on the radio, their twitter is great for following the Bears games.

Have you ever played at Buefield? They get the normal 1-score home field advantage that most teams get plus a 2-scores ref advantage and late in the season if they are on the bubble to make playoffs the ref advantage is literally infinite. The clock can go from 2 minutes left to 0 with no official plays being ran with 3- timeouts used, I think the year was 2002 or 2003.

I know he was a huge part of the offense and defense, and so was Waldron for us, the point being that there is nothing that can be done about it now except to hope that the next kid steps up and does his job and hopefully the kid in question learns his lesson.
As far as it being posted on here, I don't think that it being posted on here would make a difference as to how the blues coaches would approch the game. I'm sure they would have heard about it from somewhere else. With the way the world is now with social media, nothing stays a secret very long.
But I do understand how you feel. There are times that I may know stuff that very few if any may know, but I don't post it until I see that it has gotten out to the public by another means.

No worries.  According to the link, Powell Valley finished with an all-time record of 401-166-15.  In terms of winning percentage, the Vikings certainly must rank among the most successful programs in the history of Virginia high school football.

Very doubtful. I'm supposed to start a new work study job up here starting Monday, and if that does indeed happen, I won't be able to make it. But, if something happens and that falls through, I'll be in for the game.

I think the winner of the game (barring some injuries) is likely the number 1 seen in AA West with the loser either 2nd or 3rd. I think both Giles and Glenvar will slip up on a game.

I'm sure they didn't show too much. As I'm sure Richlands won't show all that much tonight either.

Do enough to win, but don't let the scouts pick up on your plan for next week.

I'm not saying we are going to win. I'm simply saying that Union played a vastly overrated team in JIB. Richlands is the real deal. As is Union.

Unions measuring stick is against Richlands and vice versa.

The LPD "had" reason to be arrogant. 20 something state championships over a 40 year period. No other district in SWVA can come close to claiming that. Not saying that I agree with that arrogance, but they definitely had reason to be. I don't necessarily think that Jimbo was being arrogant. If you compared a current NFL team to the '85 Bears everyone would know what you meant. I believe that he felt he had a team this year that was worthy of those great LPD teams of the past. I don't think anyone was more shocked by last night's outcome than him.

Of course, that's just what the LPD is now, the past. Nobody can thump chests about it now. Jimbo may still be stuck there, I don't know. I'm just excited about Union, Central, Ridgeview, Lee, Gate City, and John Battle becoming the FUTURE of the Mountain District and its place in SWVA football lore.

We should always respect the past, but we can't live there.

As a BDD guy I would say old LPD arrogance.

Just because you play great teams doesnt mean you are one.

Honest question, why does Jimbo run his mouth so much to the media and on Twitter? All I've heard all summer is how Burton's line is old school and could block in the old LPD etc. Then in the preview article in Kingsport Times he said that this is the best team they'll play u til game 14 or 15. Already talking about those games like its assured they will be there even before week 1!!

Here's my 2 cents... Union was impressive, but the things that stood out to me were the running game and defense. Noaks played a heck of a game on both sides of the ball and we didn't have to show much on the passing game because we ran the ball with ease. On the other hand, no offense to anyone but Burton was horrible. The RB that has been so hyped was not impressive at all, passing game was nonexistent, special teams (punts) were bad, the HUGE line got manhandled all night. Just an all around bad showing by Burton. I hope for their sake they just had a bad night, but I felt after the jamboree they didn't have much.

Big crowd in Norton, standing room only.

JIB was never in the game. 3 botched snaps on their first possession. If JIB doesnt step up theres no way they get past GW, Covington, Galax, Honaker, etc

Union looked good. Very athletic backs, matched with solid line play. They will be tough to stop. That athleticism carried over to the defensive side of the ball. JIB didnt get the edge all night

Yeah, it shouldnt be like the old Indiana/Kentucky basketball system where its one huge tourney that does not account for size.

A team like Clintwood should not be playing Oscar Smith, or Gate City should not have to play Phoebus for a state title, thats a 2,000 student difference.

That everyone is paying. Unless the school forces the parents to cover the amount of the cost of the extra school year, then all taxpayers are paying it.

But if the parents pay for the incurred costs of another extra year of school for any reason other than academic, then I have no issues at all.

Stop kidding yourself. Mavahi are the top dogs...they are athletic and have a strong post game. Graham struggles with both (see Bluefield). The G-Men have had a fantastic season and I hope it continues however, I think they only have one more game...

BigWinners got a reaction from HurricaneWarning in Rank em: Montana, Bradshaw, or Brady
Are we talking about what QB you would rather have in a Super Bowl, or the greatest QB of all time?

My answer is the same regardless, Montana at #1. He never threw an interception in the Super Bowl, is maybe the most clutch quarterback ever, and has his signature moments.
I also believe he beat better teams in his four wins than Brady overall. Seattle is better than Cincy x2, Denver and Miami but as a whole I think the SF opponents were better.
He has his come from behind, 90 yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to beat a good Cincy team with his winning TD pass to Taylor in the last seconds, he out dueled a future HOFer and top 5 QB in Marino and beat them convincingly, absolutely annihilated John Elway 55-10 (still biggest winning margin ever), and beat a decent Cincy team for his first SB with Kenny Anderson as the Bengals QB. It shoulda been a San Diego/San Francisco Super Bowl, I believe the Chargers had the better team overall but had to play in CIncy in a game with like a minus-50 windchill. SD had Fouts, Winslow, etc.. but the Bengals prevailed that day and didnt get blown out by SF in 1981.

    I would rank them:
    Montana
    Brady
    Bradshaw

I never really viewed Bradshaw as an elite, top of the top QB. He was the beneficiary of arguably the best overall team ever with HOFers at RB, two WRs, one OL, DT, two LBs, and a top 5 all-time CB in Mel Blount, He made some big plays in big moments, but his career as a whole is not as good as Brady or Montana. Neither Tom nor Joe were ever almost benched permanently for Terry Gilliam.

If we are just doing like top five all-time QBs, I would rank:
    1-Montana
    2-Brady
    3-Manning
    4-Elway
    5-Marino
