About 90% "Parents in those days didn't allow their kids to sit on their butts all summer, and since most everyone was outside playing, they developed muscles and strength that Johnny Millennial doesn't get playing his PS4 all day."

Yea,  I think White has a lot of potential !  I loved to watch him run with the ball last year.  I would like to see him get a little bigger to be able to absorb the hits of a full season, but not so big as to slow his quickness.  I loved his instinct's as a runner.  Quick change of direction and the way he hit the hole when it was there.  I really like him,  but I  worry  just a "little" about his size and taking the hits,  but it's not like the blues have not had some great small-ish backs in the past,  like  "Adam Davis" and one of my favorite all time Blues.....Caleb Jennings.  Now of course I am not comparing White to those 2 as far as talent or anything except for size.   I have heard that he is stronger than he looks for his size and is a great kid.  I just think the kid has some potential,  so if he can give them any kind of running game to go along with that passing game,  the offense will be extremely hard to stop.  I would love to see JLA pull the ball down and run just a little more this year.  Teams don't expect him to do it and I know I saw several times last year where if he would have done that,  he would have had big yards.
It's gonna be exciting seeing this team grow this year.  I think they will start out as a good team,  but have a chance to be another one of those Richlands teams that can make another run if the young guys improve like we hope they will.

Richland's will score alot of points each week....Howie is gonna be hard for any team to deal with and the rest of the wr core is just as good as I've seen in awhile. Once the figure out who is gonna be running the ball and the defense gets lined out I figure they will be still playing come December.

Thoughts and prayers going out to the town of Appomattox and the surrounding towns and cities to that area. Saw where a tornado bad wreaked some havoc on them. Hadnt heard of any death or injuries yet....but hope that everyone made it out okay. Don't really know the full extent to the situation.

Edit: so far I've heard 3 deaths have been confirmed....among those 3 was a 2 year old boy. Reportedly, 7 tornadoes have touched down in VA during this crazy storm. Prayers for the families affected. Some scary stuff and it's hitting close to home!

No carbs and high protein. A lot of meat and eggs and cheese. This had been surprisingly easier this time around. Haven't gotten to exercise as much as I wanted, but that will be easier once I get back to campus.

I agree Ryan,  how many times were we even in the playoffs before Coach Mance became head coach !  I mean we would occasionally make the playoffs and under Dennis Vaught we got much better and won big in 92,  but it was not until Mance and his staff took over that we really became what we are today, and I would take that over what we were any day.  I can't really think of any other coach in our area that I would take over him.  I hope Mance stays for many many years !
Simon is really really good also.

People who clamor for a new coach confuse me. For the last 10-12 years, we have been the standard of excellence in this area. We've been to 4 title games and countless other semis and regional finals. I would rather get there every year and have a chance than find another coach and maybe not even make it there. I'll stand by coach Mance until the day he steps down. He's not perfect, he makes some odd calls, but he gets you there, which is better than 90% of the area teams. Just my two cents, anyways.

Good luck to you each day is a challenge I am dealing with this daily something that helped me was doing the Daniel Fast it is not really a fast you can eat a lot of food look it up and follow it then work it in to your daily routine. Plus eat at least 5 to 6 times a day remember high protein and low carbs is the key. I changed my diet and lost 30lbs. without exercise. I am no expert but I commend you on making a change I feel better than I did

    By GEORGE THWAITES
GREEN VALLEY — Richlands quarterback John-Luke Asbury accomplished amazing things during his junior season calling signals for the Blue Tornado.
Alas, learning to tie a bow tie wasn’t one of those things.
Asbury,  who led Richlands to an 11-2 finish while passing for 3,026 yards and 47 touchdowns, was named the Pocahontas Coal Association/Bluefield Daily Telegraph Player of the Year in Thursday’s banquet at the Princeton Elks Lodge.
“It’s a prestigious award and you never want to take something like this lightly,†said Asbury after the ceremonies. “I’m very blessed to have this opportunity and to share it with these people. I’m in a room full of amazing athletes who are probably all going to the next level. It means a lot.â€
Asbury’s dapper bow tie may have been the most-admired piece of neckwear at the banquet. It was certainly the most commented upon.
But the Blues quarterback had a confession.
“I’m going to be honest with you. It’s a clip-on. It looks good, though,†said Asbury, whose podium repartee proved nearly as impressive as his gridiron statistics.
His co-finalists for Player of the Year included lightning-quick Graham running back and linebacker Jamorya’ Cousin and durable single wing throwback Brian Mann of Giles.
At two different points in the program, Asbury adroitly credited his Richlands coaches, offensive linemen, running backs and receivers for being the actual authors of his success. He didn’t earn Player of the Week, he said. They did.
After being named Player of the Year, he invited Blues’ running back Nick Blankenship — who was also among the banquet’s original 11 weekly honorees — to join him at the podium on behalf of the entire Tornado team.
It was the youngster’s first such public appearance. Judging from the audience reaction, it went over very well.
“I was a little nervous coming in. So I thought about it a lot, in my spare time, in the shower and stuff. You know, practicing in a mirror,†Asbury joked. “My parents have always been really good at doing it. I think it’s just a trait I inherited from them.â€
Another thing hidden in his DNA: exceptional passing efficiency. Asbury completed 177 of 275 passing attempts (64.6 percent) with only seven interceptions.
He threw for at least 203 yards in 11 games while leading an offense that averaged 40.6 points a game. He went on a 10-game stretch where he threw 40 TD passes with only one interception.
“He’s a special kid. He’s been ... to quarterback camps ... all over the country and he’s a student of the game. He’s just one of the best passers I’ve ever seen. He can flat-out throw the football,†said Richlands head coach Greg Mance, who noted that Asbury exceeded 3,000 passing yards while for the most part playing only two or three quarters a game.
“If you look  at what he did, he didn’t have that many attempts. He was averaging 23 attempts a game and most of those yards came in the first half. I think he played in only two games in the fourth quarter all season,†Mance said.
It wasn’t all sweetness and light. Asbury would like to take back the last interception he unleashed in the Blues’ 27-21 overtime loss to Appomattox in the third round of the 2A West playoffs. But, like any good quarterback, he’s already moved on.
“Some things didn’t go our way and we made some mistakes, offense and defense. I threw a last-minute pick on the goal line on second down. That’s really tough. But we’ve just got to come back strong,†Asbury said.
Mance wasn’t surprised at his quarterback’s social skills. In Richlands’ spread offense, Asbury has to think and communicate in the flow of the moment all the time.
“He’s smart. He understands coverages. He watches a lot of film during the season.  In our system, the quarterback has the autonomy to audible. He checks down probably 40 to 50 percent of the plays that are sent in to him. He does that often,†said Mance.
Asbury’s favorite play of the 2015 season was, not surprisingly, an audible. This one was called with the Blues’ backed up to their own end zone.
“We were in the huddle and had a pass play called on Abingdon. We were down on the goal-line. We walked up and there were five in the box. So of course I’m going to check to a run,†said Asbury. “I looked over at Nick and said, ‘Nick, you’ve got to put the team on your back on this and take it to the house ... 97 yards.’ Next thing I know Nick is running down the sidelines going past people.â€
“That was definitely my favorite moment. We were kind of joking and having fun and it turned out to be the big play we were talking about,†he said.
Asbury and Blankenship had a friendly competition during the season to see who could get Richlands’ offensive linemen to like them better. Blankenship won —by baking them cookies.
Now that Blankenship, a senior, is moving on, Asbury intends to keep taking care of the big guys who take care of him.
“I have a cookout still planned. It’s in the making. I’m going to cook them a real nice steak dinner. Maybe that’ll put me in the top again,†he said.

Good Luck today Union! I will be here at home pulling for you all and listening on the radio. I sure hope you guys play the type of football your capable of. If you do....I think you win by at least two scores but all that matters at the end of the day is to have one more point than Clarke!

I have the highest regard for coach Mance and the whole staff,  but i just could not understand why we didn't use Landon more in the passing game especially over the middle.  The few times they did throw to him this year it always worked and made pretty good chunks of yards.
I wasn't able to go to the game because of a injury to my knee,  but from what I have been told from several that went,  that play to Landon would have been there several different times,  but who am I to question any thing the coaches did or didn't do.
I played,  but I have never coached and had to make those sort of calls in a game and it's always so easy for me or anybody else to say how they would have done things different.
I love our coaching staff and they have taken us to a level I never thought we would be at several years ago.
Back in the 70's and 80's we were happy if we just made the playoff's so they have done a lot of great things here and I hope they will for years to come.
With all that said,  I still can't help but wonder what could have been if we would have thrown the ball to landon at least a couple of times in situations when we needed to move the sticks.  But there could have been things going on in the game that I have no idea about that the coaches did know and that's why they didn't use Landon over the middle.

Congratulations on a great season.  And to all our playoff from SWVA that arent moving on...Cheer for your brethren that are and come back with the same intensity next year and compete to the end.  It was a good season for several of our teams and to all I would say it truly has been a pleasure watching some of the best football this state has to offer right here in SWVA.

Man I HATE to lose! That being said.....it was a great game. A whole lot could be said about a lot of things but plain and simple was.... we never made the plays when it counted. They had several opportunities to put it away in the first half and we had many chances to put them away in the second half. I am very proud of the boys and all the GREAT fans we have. What a game and atmosphere for High School Football.

Appomattox has a great team no doubt about it. We had a team capable of moving on but just didn't execute what was needed to beat an excellent opponent. I hate it so bad for the seniors especially. Somebody has to lose and that was us this time. A lot of the seniors on this years team will be talked about for years to come. The little boys in the youth league and up to eighth grade will grow up saying.....I want to be like such and such or say......I want to play like him. They were great role models all season for those little guys. They performed community service and spent many hours over at the elementary and middle Schools talking with them. Just a wonderful group of young men that I have enjoyed so much being around and watching play .

Our season is over but most of us Richlands fans will be pulling hard for Union and George Wythe. Hope you guys can when two more. If you make it to Salem....there will be a lot of us fans in Salem pulling for you guys.

    Good luck

I am not afraid to say that this game makes me very nervous.......very.  I think we have a team that can beat Appo,  but I also think they have a team that can beat us.  Both teams have a slew of athletes and it should be a very good football game.  The team that makes the least amount of mistakes and makes the best adjustments during the game should win this game.  We are going to have to tighten up our run defense,  we did a much better job in the 2nd half,  but Buckingham helped us out by getting away from the run and started to throw the ball more which really played into our hands thanks in a big way because of the adjustments we made.
Cudos to coach Mance & staff for the halftime adjustments they made ( as always ).
I do believe we can and will win this game,  but we have to come out playing better in the 1st half and not give up so many big runs and plays.
Scotty ball was the man last night along with Atkins,  that's what makes this team so tough to defend,  they ( Buckingham )  wanted to take Howie out of the game and pretty much did by putting Ragland on him one on one,  but we have several other receivers that can hurt you and they did.  I thought that John luke had a good game also and he will need to be on point against Appo.
