Things certainly looking up.
Abingdon defeats Smith County (TN), 4-2. They will play Martinez Evans (GA) on Tuesday afternoon, the winner of that game will move on to play Coulwood Oakdale (NC). Martinez Evans beat Summersville (WV), 16-3, today. Whoever advances to the final will have to play North Springs (FL), who is the defending champ returning 5 players from that team. They won the U.S. World Series title last year and lost by a run to Panama in the World final; strong team with good sized kids. North Springs has beaten Martinez Evans (20-1) and Coulwood (16-1) in this Region tournament.
So back in November when the Union faithful was talking about how they would take on all comers with their chest out was not an issue. But fast forward to May when your no longer the big dog on campus it really doesn't matter. I see where you are going with this.
Well said. There are some really talented players to watch in the area. And like you said there are more playing D1 Baseball than any other sport from around our area. Not just from Abingdon but several from other schools as well.
I guess it might be too early in the season yet. Once baseball gets rolling, talk may pick up.
I feel like there will be some pretty good teams from around the area. Wise Central, John Battle, Abingdon, Virginia High, and Tazewell should be pretty good this season. Not sure about 1D teams but Eastside is getting a lot of press in the paper.
Gate City is having a fantastic basketball season. Kudos to them and I certainly hope the make a serious run at the 2A state title. Live it up GC, Enjoy the ride cause baseball and football season is coming. Just remember, what comes around, goes around.

I was at this game. Incredible play. But what was coolest of all. The QB was our very own Jake Sturgill. Both UVA-Wise's other QB's Had been knocked out of the game literally, in the first half.
Va High better be on their A game. Beating a team twice in one season is tough. Beating a team twice in a matter of a few weeks has got be way tougher task. I'm sure Marion is looking for revenge and will come out ready to play. Va High will have to clean up the turnovers and mental mistakes from the last few weeks.

Abingdon will roll GC next year. Abingdon is only graduating 14 seniors and and will have 20+ seniors next season. Now in 2019 GC may make a run at AHS as they will be short on upperclassmen then but if GC is in the 3 year plan to get back to "what it once was", They may not beat the Falcons then either. Lee and Central may be toss ups and possibly South if they stayed on the schedule

I have not seen Marion so I can't speak to how well they look other than comments and news reports. VHS seems to play up and down at times but will not quit or give up. Bearcats in a close one.
