I think fans everywhere criticize coaching, whether it's another team or whether it's their own.

Section of crowd I sat in at Wytheville Saturday were getting all hostile with GW's coach for not throwing the ball, or when they did throw the ball, they wanted that screen pass to be a deep ball.

People that used to wear red were calling for Rick Mullins' firing about halftime of the Wise Central game in week 2.  My Facebook timeline lit up... Lol.

Obviously things got much better as the season progressed and things quieted down... I'm from Haysi, and I can't criticize.  Even though Colley had the offensive mastermind, it's Mullins who has a ring.

I think I seen another thread on here where fans criticize their own team (Giles maybe?).  Like I said, I think it happens everywhere.  Haters gonna hate when adversity rears its ugly head, but they'll be your best bud when things are peachy keen.

If Richlands had beaten Appomattox, I'm sure Mr. 4A would have been like... "Boy, I sure wished I worked for coach Mance, cause he's so cool..."

My two cents about the original topic.  As far as golf goes, I once hit a hole in one on a putt putt course.  :D

I firmly believe with all my heart that Appomattox and Richlands are the two best teams in 2A this season. Clarke has given an admirable account of itself this postseason, but I would be very surprised if the final score is within 10 points on Saturday.

But I was surprised that Clarke laid wood yo Union. To err is human. To not err too much is the goal. :)

I'm not a Union, Appomattox, or Richlands fan but here is my opinion. I'm not going to fault Ryan for what he said. Union beat Richlands early in the season by 1 point. If Union and Richlands played tonight, Richlands wins by atleast 2 touchdowns. I will defend Ryan by saying that the 2 best teams in 2A will not be playing next week. 1 of the 2 yes, but I do think Richlands had the better team last week and I even told my father after that game that it was the championship before the championship. Yes, Clark pulled off what I guess was an upset, but I wasn't really surprised by the score after hearing from multiple people that Union was weak in defending the power run. That is why I was hoping Giles would get to play them, because I knew Giles would be able to put points on them. Also, 95% of the people on this board picked Union to win, myself included. But I did say that Clarke cannot be slept on because their only loss was to a 4A school, and their defense had only allowed 8 points a game.

But anyways, good luck to Appo and Clarke next week. Appo has a great run defense, Clarke will have to air it out some if they want to win.

That is quite surprising because Giles does have a classy program. But all schools have them certain fans that only come out at playoff time and start talking smack when they probably cant name 5 players on the team.

Yeah i'd say your only 2 choices if you indeed want to see 2 games Saturday are either Lord Botetourt then Jefferson Forest.........Or Appomattox then Jefferson Forest...don't see any other early games where you would have time to make it to JF-Salem game

I have always had a sweet spot in my heart for Tazewell County, and all the towns and small communities in the county.Let me say that, Tazewell county has some very good people living there, and
Represents the best of SWVA. After I graduated college while the Vietnam War was at its peak, my first job was in Tazewell, and for the County of Tazewell. The war took me away from my job for a short time, but I told my employer to hold my job, and that I would be back. And that was God's plan for me,as I did return to Tazewell. I met some amazing people all over the county, and I sat down often with them and broke bread with them in frendship. Life took on a different meaning to me in those days. I began to see life in a much larger picture, and not so much as letting the smaller things of life take a hold of me, and mold me into to somebody, other then who I really was.

Life is very short, My Friends. It seem like it was only yesterday that I was on Bearwaller Mt, Redash, or Pocahontas setting down with some very good folks, and trying to figure out we could make life better for them and their families. It was those people that help define me, not the turmoil of war, and it's bitterness.

Folks, as I enter my final years of life on this old Earth, I enjoy watching the game of football just as much as the next guy. Defeat was something that I could not and would not accept. It made the game, more than a game, but something that tried to mold me into somebody other than who I was and am today.
We as adults must realize that we must be the role models for our youth. We as adults, should always let winning not define us, but teach us how to deal with success, and not expect success to come without a price. Let no man sit in judgement of his fellowman, but let our maker judge whether or not we have served him to the best of our ability. The game is nothing but a game. If we make more of it than what it is and let it's outcome define us, than it no longer is a game that I would not want the youth I know be part of on this great Earth. May God continue to bless all the good folks in Tazewell County. If we love our fellowman, than we are all winners in the eyes of God.

That's correct.. 1:30 kickoff. Should be a good atmosphere for Union. They are taking a pep band and are considering a "fan bus". Also, I'm sure a lot of fans will make the trip for the day and even a lot on Friday.

I was at this game and unfortunately had to sit on Appomattox side because I got to the game 2 hours before kick off and Richlands side was already filled up! Anyways, Richlands defense done a lot of bending but didn't break. Appo had many chances to go up a couple of scores in the 1st half but The Blues D turned it up a few notches when Appo had the ball on their side of the field. Appo is a great team, but it looked to me like once Richlands got up a few scores, they no longer played to win. They played to not lose. But I will agree that the Appomattox D is as great as what every said. Was hoping to see a Richlands/Union rematch but when don't always get what we wish for

Glenvar was definitely bigger. They just faced the same problems others have this year in that Union can get the ball and score on two or three consecutive possessions and if you have to punt you get in a hole you can't get out of.

I've been to two games this year where I thought Union was the inferior team and won, yesterday and Richlands. Coach Turner was the difference in both, his play calling yesterday was incredible and the decision to call timeout after seeing Glenvar's alignment on the two point try was crucial.

I for one hope Turner keeps pushing the right buttons for two more weeks.

As the scoreboard clock ticked down, a feeling of emptiness surrounded us, for the time had come for us to accept the outcome of the battle that again been fought by our young men in Blue. For one to try to describe that feeling, let that be laid at the foot of everyone that witnessed the battle. There were no losers Saturday, for many lessons of life were learned by our soldiers, just as the battles of reality were fought on the same hollowed ground many years ago.
Life presents us all with battles, not measured on a scorboard, but on the sidelines of a thing called reality. Let us never forget the blood shed by our soldiers to make it possible for us to enjoy the game we all love. The cornerstones of life were laid by brave young men. It is not so much the ones who laid the stones, but it is the ones that dug the trenches to where the stones were to be laid that made the foundation of life itself so strong.
We live everyday basting in the glory of victory. Now is the time of reflection back to the day of a hot day in August as our young men in Blue started to prepare for the battles awaiting them. The sweat, the blood, and the tears flowed softy down their proud bodies, preparing them for the day when a game of life would be thrown at us all, not to win or lose, but to test our resolve in human compasion. There will be no more battles this year for the men in Blue, as least not in the game we all love to watch. But there will be battles that we will face in life itself that will test our endurance and character. The disappointment that we faced will not define us, but will help us in life to accept what life will throw at us everyday.
Those young men taught us all some valuable lessons in life. It is not whether we win or lose, but it is how we chose to deal with the final outcome of our battles that define us. We are all family on our makers field of life. We do not not know what life is going to present to us to deal with tomorrow. But one thing for sure, we will be stronger by witnessing the battles of the season, and will make us stronger to face whatever comes our way. Yes, those young men fought a good battle, and in return we thank them for their resolve that irregardless of the outcome, we are now more prepared to accept the final outcome.
