who would you put at qb? i think hes done a decent job for a kid that got throwed out there because another kid transfered.  hes had some bad games yes but hes also a big reason were 7 and2 instead of 5 and4. the qb is not the only thing thats wrong with the offense or passing game

Huge win obviously for the Bears. I kept hearing Adkins was better than Thomas Jones and was the best RB to  ever play in this area. He's a good football player, but not close folks (not to mention all of the great backs like Julius,Stonega Stallion,Boo Sensabaugh...etc. and vs those nasty LPD defenses as well as playing folks like GC when they were non distric). Having said that he still has time to get better and will (like James Mitchell did at Union),but an SEC D1 prospect? Not right now

Easy to say Pollier is the best back in SWVA. Hands down.

back in my day you paid for any personal fouls or unsportsman like penaltys with penalty busters the following week. this consisted of startig at one end of the field and doing updown at every white line or every 5 yards. you did this up the field and back down every day after practice which meant you ran with the rest of the team then had to do this after. do that for a week and you would think twice about fighting or talkng trash

The ongoing development of the passing attack will determine how far Union goes. With a passing gAme capable of making teams pay for stacking the box, Bears can beat anyone on any given night.

That makes more sense. I wasn't trying to down GC, it's just people had repeatedly talked about you guys having some burners that got involved with the offense but tonight they tried to basically go between the tackles or off tackle every time. Not a lot of passing threat but a solid run attack.
I was surprised by the chippy play as someone else mentioned. It will look like Union was the only side guilty (a couple personal fouls) but it was 100% both sides. A couple situations could have drawn flags but that's not important.
Union really made GC pay when the Bears attacked the edges in the first half, but GC adjusted somewhat and clamped down on the jet sweep action after the half.
But Gibson had some beautiful throws tonight, the more they trust him and allow Union to attack all areas of the field, the more dangerous they become. A hitch route, some bootleg looks hitting out routes, some go routes, etc..  The only thing missing is attacking the middle of the field with crossers and slants, but those are the riskiest throws for someone still getting acclimated to QB.

agree with this. ive already told a couple of the players that if we dont take care of buisness next week then the win over graham dont mean nothing. gotta win conference games at home. these kids are young and hungry so i think they will be focused.

Not anything about the offense type or playing.  I agree with you.  I refer to as run first, or in short, having the ability to run when your are pass first.  Richlands personnel suits a run oriented offensive system.  I think it's also noticeable when they do so like last night.  As for the defense, that's another story.  Run oriented teams with passing as a second choice, but efficient often do the best.  It's very tough for a pass oriented FIRST team to run it efficiently when they do compared to a run oriented FIRST team to pass efficiently when it needs to.  Pass blocking and run blocking are not the same.  You can be a run oriented offense and throw it 20 times per game if the box is stacked.  The thing is, you are looking to run it first as a first option and if this pass is there, then take it.  Richlands did that against Abingdon and they whipped em.  Actually, Union did the same last night.  Looking to run effectively, took the pass when there on the blitz or when the box was stacked.  There are times when Richlands lines up and the called play on first down is a pass REGARDLESS of the defensive set.  That's not run oriented.  Bluefield Researcher is right in a post in one of these threads talking about Graham's run game.  They better get one and get one quick to go late in the playoffs.   The odds are, if you can't run the ball when you need to (as often happens in the playoffs, you lose).  Sure, sometimes a team or teams can get buy with it, but it's the exception to the rule.  Same for a run oriented team.  They better at least be able to complete some screens and or short efficient passes when they need to to advance far in the playoffs.  The exception to the rule is that a team gets by with it late in the playoffs.
Union can throw it BETTER than 2017.  I watched both teams.  This QB can throw it well enough to keep defenses honest and from loading the box.  That will serve Union well and in my opinion, makes them as dangerous as they were in 2017 because of the versatility of their offense.  Same with Ridgeview.  It appears that kid can actually throw it and that they can do so when they need to.

What happened in 2017 was Unions starting QB was lost to a season ending injury in the Richlands game, week two, and Union felt more confident in going to a single wing look with Mitchell at QB. Now, Union has a QB they trust in Gibson and while they don't have the talent of a player like Mitchell, it can be a much more dynamic attack.

His confidence as well as the entire team has to be sky high. To have this young a team and to go beat the defending champ in their place makes you feel like you can beat anybody. I really do thing Ridgeview will have problems with this squad.

right now hes averging 23 carries for 336 yards and almost 6 tds a game. thats not abnormal for a kid to get 23 carries a game. obviously hes not taking a beating with that many yards and tds. hes not getting tackled much hes jus running.

If I had to give a player of the game, it's him. He was fantastic. He also had a long run called back in the first half.
