  1. Jenkins is classified as Class 1 according to the VHSL master schedule. When teams in VA play out of state schools, the VHSL gets the student population of that out of state school and classifies them Class1 through Class 6 for power rating purposes so they do count, but one catch. For tiebreakers, if the tiebreaker isn't settled with the normal priority things like head to head, record against common opponents, etc, as the tiebreaker decisions move on down the list, and one of the final ways to break the tiebreaker is by taking the two teams power rating for Virgina schools only and disgarding the Non VHSL schools. This usually occurs way down the list and tiebreakers are usually resolved before reaching this point. If Union and Radford tie in power rating, Radford has a slight advantage because if all things are equal and Union/Radford kept moving down the list of tiebreaker decisions and its still not solved, then one of the final ways is Union's power ranking against VA opponents only and Science Hill would be thrown out, and that would put Radford ahead.
  2. So, your question is specific to Region 1D and how 1D decides their tiebreakers which could be different than other regions. Here's how most Regions do it. This isn't a given but it's how most regions do it. Head to head? Who won if the two played. If they didn't play, then Common opponents? Who had the best records against common opponents? I think both only had one common opponent and that was P. Henry and both won. If the 2 above don't settle it, then here is where it starts to get weird and is really region specific and this is where regions differ, and the answer really boils down to Region 1D's methods.. They get into things like whether either team won their district and if not, did either team finish second place, what are the average power ratings of all the teams they played, what is the overall record of both Rural Retreat and Grundy, what is the power rating for Rural Retreat and Grundy against only Class 1 schools, power rating against schools in Virginia only, etc. Each region does have a plan before the season starts. The coaches/AD's have agreed on a method before the season starts on how teams are seeded for the playoffs and settling of tiebreakers. This is not something they do at the end of the regular season when the moment comes.
  3. Assuming you are talking about the regional and not the state level. Go to VHSL website and download or view the VHSL handbook and scroll to page 132. VHSL has specific rules for semifinal games and who hosts if there's a tie between two different regions like Radford in C and Union in D. For games 1, 2, and 3, the regionals/not the state level, the VHSL defers to each individual region on how they seed and settle tiebreakers and who makes playoffs, so the answer you are looking for is specific for the Region you are asking about and most regions do it similar or the same, but there are differences in how they settle tiebreakers.
  4. Nagistbillbsy called and said he's offended and there's only room for one nutjob in the forums! Where are the Marion Scarlet Hurricane fans? When on earth did you guys start allowing computer access for the patients?
  5. Visiting team would have say so if Radford wanted the game significantly further east of Radford such as Salem. Visiting team wouldn't have any say so if game is played in Radford's local area like Bburg, Cburg, Pulaski.
  6. Landtek added 1800 to Christiansburg during the upgrade. I think Christiansburg is around 5300. Blacksburg has always been the smallest of Cburg, Radford, Giles, Pulaski in capacity, but not small enough to be unallowed by VHSL for the semi's.
  7. Very funny cuz. I know down there, they are taking it one game at a time. In Radford, we've had so much heartbreak since our last one in the 70s that we take it one half at a time instead of 1 game a time.
  8. Coach Lineburg a class act. Great man and great coach.
  9. In 1A, I don't know. I haven't check on who Calpreps picked. But, for Class 2, I know I would be behind where I am now, because I can come up with at least 5-6 games in the first 5 or so weeks that I was 50/50 on and was leaning to a team opposite of what Calpreps, and I went with Calpreps and they nailed it. With the close games, Calpreps gets em wrong sometimes, but it seems like they get those 50-50 type games right about 3 out of 4 times.
  10. I do the Class 1 and 2 pickem on Vapreps. In Class 1, I have picked with my own opinion on who would win and I'm middle of the pack right now. In Class 2, I started the whole season with Calpreps to pick the games and have only used Calpreps, and I'm tied for first right now.
  11. I agree 100% on that. It's my take on Union this year also. I watched them against Graham. Their line is as good as always, but they have the most athletic team when looking at all 22 positions that I recall ever seeing at Union. We (Raddy) are looking good this year. Our QB is lights out and we have some fast WR's and fast DB's. Union is actually More athletic than us when looking all 11/22 starters on the field.
  12. Bandana, watch the scores of Warhill of Williamsburg in 4A. They might play for Class 4 title. Beat New Kent 44-0 and at 5-0, average score is 45-4. They have a team that can play with Dinwiddie, Phoebus, and Varina
  13. It sounds like Graham will be ok on offense. Jennings, the younger talented guys can run it. Hughes is the good linebacker I think and his loss hurts Graham more on defense than offense.
  14. Tazewell gives them a good game I don't know what happens.
  15. Agree on overall record. Not as athletic and the line was supposed to drop off. I'm not sure our line has dropped off. It might be better. QB is the best we've ever had at Radford since Alderman in early 70s and seems to be maturing on & off field. Games won up front. If line continues to grow, we aren't dead in water just yet with Glenvar/Appo.
  16. Party boy only Steers and you know what go to school in Texas and you don't own any bulls.
  17. https://www.bluefieldwv.gov/parksrec/page/mitchell-stadium#:~:text=The stadium holds 10%2C000 fans,capacity%2C at around 12%2C000 attendees. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitchell_Stadium https://www.bdtonline.com/news/new-elevated-observation-platform-eyed-for-mitchell-stadium-north-end-zone/article_a4b6e44c-c505-11ed-b25b-d7e03ac91c10.html https://bcrams.com/sports/2013/8/22/FB_0822135403.aspx
  18. Stu I've read that on here in past but ain't sure I agree with that all the way. When Graham came to Raddy, they packed it. I watched GMen play Richlands 4 years ago and 3/5ths of stands were full. If one side holds 5,000, that's 3,000 home fans. Some of it might be Mitchell Stadium. If a side holds 5,000 and it's only 1/2 full, you still got 2500 people on that side but it looks like a small crowd. I saw GMEN against teams other than Bluefield about 4 times in last 10 to 12 years. Their side was always over 1/2 full.
  19. 4,000 probably good now but what if 2 plants come to Bluefield in next 5 or 10 yrs and employ another 500 or 1000 people. That brings family members and about 2500 more people to town. If Palmer is still there then 4,000 may seem tight. Marshall's Stadium in the 80's was built to 40K and it never expanded or needed to, but they have the ability to double that to 80K for expansion when they built it.
  20. interesting what capacity will be. Don't wanna overbuild but also gotta prepare for future and what if scenario of Mitchell. If Mitchell is out of commission or isn't usable in 20 yrs, can Graham's place host a Graham-Bluefield game. 3500-3750 home and 2,000 away is the sweet spot of about 5500 to 5750. Got to think about concert hosting and that stuff.
  21. In the east Poquoson got the best of Heritage of NNews and king William last night according to 1 KW guy and a Poquoson fan that I texted with this morning. Said Heritage had a lot of speed but undisciplined an both KW and Poquoson looked good. Them two probably will play in regionA title game again for 3rd or 4th straight time
  22. I got to see Blues play Beavers last season. Blues looked like they were trying to run it alot more than what they have in past from what I recall Richlands when Raddy played em. But they didn't seem fluent or comfortable doing it. Like they was trying to make that transition to running it more but wasn't comfortable doin it
  23. My 6 locks for Rg title games are Graham/Union, King William/Poquoson & Glenvar/Appo. Rg B is more than a 2 horse race with Central/Riverheads. Stuart's Draft might clip one of them
  24. The Bobcats will put up some points, but will give up a lot too. We're a 6-4 team this year. Appo and Glenvar are heads above the rest in 2C this coming year.
