You put Tazewell kids inside RHS against their will... They'll burn that building all the way down to the asbestos.

That's actually a pretty valid take.  To paraphrase from Animal House...  The issue is not whether we broke a few rules, or enticed our athlete friends to participate in questionable activities or behavior -- we did.  *wink*

As far as players, the Clark-Jones family football dynasty played an integral part in Robbins' success. Let us not forget, Thomas Sr and Betty were from Appalachia and lived there with the kids before moving to Big Stone Gap. Perhaps BSG officials should acknowledge Appy's contributions to the successes of Robbins at the town's park.

Sorry I didn't use the sarcasm font.  The sentiment of the post suggests that the the team most definitely will miss their loss of talent, yet, are so talented that they will simply shift more of the responsibility to a highly rated player.  The underlying tones of said comment proposes that they are a very talented team and may be able to overcome this loss.  Savvy?

Hmmm...I think Haun might have done less with more but I totally understand your sentiment.  I still think the '87 team that lost to VHS in the playoffs on the infamous out-of-bounds call was one of the most talented teams Richlands has ever fielded.  But those two accounted for a decade of Blues football that saw a lot of size and talent not win a lot of games.  Immediately after they left, Vaught wins a title in 92 and then a few years later the Mance era begins.
In their defense, Richlands hadn't totally bought in to being great in football.  The teams I played on were big, physical and talented but partied non-stop.....I mean really partied.  They were serious about Friday nights but not much else.

Well, I thought Union did a good job rallying and tackling.  That shows in a low yards-per-catch.

There may have been more, but I can only remember one shot down field. With Union's "wait and see" philosophy on pass defense, Ridgeview could have dinked and dunked all night.

All falls on the coach IMO...he allows this garbage and if they lose and lose potential home playoff games it's on him as much as it is the players

Well, here is my take as someone who played during that time.  Richlands ran the Wishbone for years (after it passed out of favor) and I think it did not do justice to the talent it had.  The opposing defenses stuffed the box and made Richlands execute 12-14 plays to score.  As one would imagine, a fumble or penalty would occur during that drive.  Secondly, during the Evans years they ran a fairly complicated "read and react" defense that, IMHO, blunted some aggressiveness.  Overall....on both sides of the ball.....very conservative and I think it cost them.  They lost a lot of close games to really good teams and were, generally, a .500 team.

Tazewell will be lucky to win the remaining games they have, coaching staff can't get out of their own way.

Rv defense couldn’t get Union off the field.  That was the difference in the game.

I’ll try to put in a rational summary of this game as I no longer have a dog in the hunt.  Ridgeview was in this game only down 14-7 half way through the third quarter and that is after a horrible first half.  They fell apart in the fourth quarter. The game couldn’t have started better for Union.

I’m seeing people say Union controlled both LOS.  I’m not sure that is accurate.  I felt like O’Quinn had plenty of time to throw and was actually pretty accurate.  He had SIX first half drops of which two resulted in interceptions.  That is on his receiver corp. All four of his interceptions hit his WRs hands and bounced off for interceptions. Folks, that is three or four games worth of bad luck in one game. I counted NINE drops of which four directly resulted in interceptions.  That’s ball game…..especially if the other team is a run oriented ball control team.
Now, throw in a horrible play call right before half that basically took a TD off the board.  That is why RV was “held to 7 points”.  I can’t fault O’Quinn at all.

Union did what it had to do and didn’t make things complicated.  Once they got up two scores they just pounded the rock.  I could be wrong but I never saw RV go to a heavy front and Chandler ran off tackle all night.  Nothing fancy….nothing tactical.  It was refreshing to see a team not try to be too cute and just give it to their best guy. Maybe RV should take notes.
I still feel like these two teams are about a TD apart.  No excuses, RV had their shot and did not show up to play on offense.  I thought Deel had some nice runs for RV and wasn’t used enough. And I’m at a loss for why O’Quinn wasn’t used more in the run game.  Please dial up some QB draws, counter..some power run…something creative to get him the ball…..he’s the best athlete in the field, IMHO and he didn’t factor in the game with his feet.  I still think Union has to throw the ball more….especially as they go into the playoffs.

Finally, RV please, please, please learn to blitz your CB or S on occasion.  They weren’t a part of the game with the 3x1 Union ran.  If a RB is repeatedly gashing you…you have to get creative to get another body in the box…..not everytime….just mix it up.  Unions coaching staff did a great job of spreading out to run power and RV had no response. So, after tonight, I don’t want to hear another sour apple comment from a Union poster about their coaching staff.  You’re damn lucky to have them and you should appreciate them.  They out coached RV tonight. Often good coaching isn’t what you do but what you DON’T do.

Folks, I witnessed the single worst play call in the last five years.  RV had 3rd and goal in the one yard line and tried to split O’Quinn out and direct snap to a RB and got an illegal procedure.  🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
Two downs to get one yard for a TD!

Youth football should focus on fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals. What you put into a kid at that age will more than likely stick with them for their career. Good or bad. The youth football model that Jeff Gee and Danny Mullins had going in Tazewell several years back has helped not just Tazewell but Graham, Montcalm, and Mt. View. It focused on fundamentals and playing time for all kids.

Well, what a lot of fans don't recognize is that there are pre-snap reads and post-snap reads.  I highly doubt RV, or anyone else is SWVA, is employing post-snaps reads where the QB goes through his progressions as the play develops.  That is easy to spot...you'll see the QB "bouncing", patting the ball and his head on a swivel and he goes through his progressions.  What is much easier to employ at the high school level is the pre-snap read but it is harder for a fan to notice it being deployed.  The QB will assess the number in the box and check the safety alignment (Single high-Cover 3 or Two Deep-Cover 2 or quarters).  He will look for blitz indicators which might tell him to throw to a hot route which isn't the same as a check down.  He would have the option to kill the play and check into something better.  Depending on what he reads pre-snap he might decide to throw the post or out.  I know for a fact RV did some of this O'Quinn's freshman year.  If a team played tight single coverage on Beavers, O'Quinn would give a hand signal to go deep.  I watched them do that often during O'Quinn's freshman year several times.  I would hope year four as a starter, RV is trusting their QB to do this now.  A telling sign of pre-snap reads would be a high completion percentage.   I've wanted RV to deploy flood/levels concepts and let O'Quinn roll out and pick his open level (out, corner or hitch, and fade to same side).  This allows the QB to make reads but he is only reading 1/3 of the field....much easier.

That's typical at this level. Even if you have a QB that's capable of making reads there's rarely time to do so, and the coaches know this.
The NFHS feed of Union/TS was talking about Bostic doing a "check down." He really didn't, but that's beside the point. The next thing they said and I wholeheartedly agree with was, "at this level the check down usually involves your feet." In other words, if your designated receiver isn't open, you run for your life. Haha
That's why so many people on this board talk about the short and intermediate passing game being so important. Gotta have those quick hitters to help the running game and avoid sacks. Union seems to do bubble screens or bombs.
I will say that Bunch did a comeback route against TS, and I had to rewind the NFHS feed to make sure it was real. Couldn't believe it.
