  1. to the original poster......if you include the roanoke area teams, you probably missed on the two best ones - william fleming and northside.
  2. How'd GC look? I saw the score...it seemed closer than I would've expected.
  3. Bulldog 82.....I think I know who you are referring to because I saw it too. However those kids listed as 8th graders were just listed incorrectly. They're 9th graders. Check back on the website today, it has been corrected.
  4. then again, another common theme of those losses is that those schools have 2 to nearly 4 times more students than mavahi has...i guess we'll see how it all plays out this evening. GO DOGS!
  5. the lengthy trip concerns me some. even more, i'm concerned about how the difference in the style of play translates when it comes to officiating. mhs has a couple of kids that could find some early foul trouble if the refs don't "let em play". also, good guard play from the opposing teams has been a common theme in the games that mhs has lost. graham seems to have that for sure.
  6. i've read on here that graham lacks size, but that's the first i've heard that graham struggles with athleticism. if that's true....uh oh. and if mhs shoots anywhere close to the way they shot it last night - my goodness.
  7. Dynamite drop in, Monte. That broadcasting school has really paid off.
  8. can't be sure as to how accurate this is, but the dogwood district site has chatham at 4-8 and gretna at 3-8. appo's record on the same site is obviously imcomplete.
  9. i noticed in this thread, and on your master list of scores up above, you have the girls score of the 1/11 bassett vs. magna vista score listed as the boys score. mv actually won the boys game. 69-62 was the score i believe.
  10. allegations of voter fraud
  11. martinsville has had the highest unemployment rate in virginia month after month after month for the last 3 or 4 years or more. henry county and the city of danville are always near the top 5 localities for unemployment as well. i don't know the exact numbers this time around, but martinsville has dropped to barely over 700 students.
  12. i just about spit out my drink laughing at that.

    Tunstall

tunstall is about 35-40 minutes (on a bus) on the other side of martinsville. tunstall is one of those places that is fairly notorious for a "home field advantage". they've got a pretty good, experienced qb. they're mostly gonna run though. that's about all i know about em this year.
  14. here's this Martinsville Bulletin excerpt this morning.... Patrick County (0-3) at Richlands (4-0) Patrick County coach Brad Dalton knew this week’s road game at Richlands would be one of the toughest on the schedule. And that was before his quarterback went down with an injury. Backup QB Jonathan Goad will make his first varsity start for PCHS tonight when the Cougars travel to face last year’s state runner-up. “(Goad) took a few snaps in the North Stokes game and took some in the Staunton River game,†said Dalton. “He’s probably got maybe a quarter under his belt. Maybe.†Not the ideal scenario for an upset. Despite graduating a large portion of their starters from last year’s team, the Blue Tornado have outscored the competition 131-56 so far this year. “They just manhandle you. They can run it, and they can throw it,†Dalton said of Richlands, which uses spread and shotgun looks. “They’ve been running that system now for seven or eight years. They plugged in some new starters this year, and it’s just same-old, same-old for them.†RHS boasts plenty of size along the offensive line and a tailback who has committed to play at Marshall, according to Dalton. On defense, Richlands puts six or seven players near the line of scrimmage and puts the rest in zone coverages over the top, depending on the down and distance. “They’re not a big blitzing team, but they force you into mistakes,†Dalton said. “It’s hard to run the football against them.†The Cougars may air it out more than normal with Goad, who Dalton said has shown potential in practice this week. PCHS will be considered a heavy underdog as they make a long bus trip to play on Richlands’ turf, where the atmosphere is college-like. “I told the kids they’ve got to look at it as an opportunity. They’re going to a place that has better facilities than a lot of small colleges,†Dalton said. “We’re trying to build on a couple positives from last week and go from there. That’s about all we can do.†PCHS Injuries: Brian Drewery (QB, mild concussion, out); Devin Merriman (LB/OL, foot) is out for this game but has been cleared to fully participate in practice next week. ... Notes: PCHS is 0-2 all-time against Richlands, and the teams have never met in the regular season. ... Last year: Did not play. ... Last week: Richlands 38, Pulaski Co. 21; Staunton River 42, PCHS 7.
  15. too bad it couldn't be the Martinsburg Bulldogs versus the Martinsville Bulldogs!!
  16. from the BDT... FOOTBALL BLUEFIELD — GoDanRiver.com has disclosed that former Graham football coach Doug Marrs is now an assistant coach at Reidsville High School in North Carolina.
  17. and a real man's sport.....cross country!
  18. can someone clear this up for a not-so-far southwest virginian such as myself.....which schools consolidated to make up eastside, central and union?
  19. depends on when the last time you went to patrick county. they put in new visitors' bleachers last year. there's still not room enough for more than 200 people or so, but at least now you can actually see the field without having to sit on the top row.
  20. not that it makes much difference, but i would switch mhs and bassett. bassett has trended downward the last couple of years. martinsville limited them to one first down all game last year en route to a 23-0 loss at ed bassett stadium.
  21. same situation for martinsville on the boys side. coach jackson got COY for D3, but only one kid made honorable mention (tarpley is shown as bassett, but that's a mistake)
  22. i saw cburg against bassett several nights ago and frankly i didn't think the blue demons were all that great. the were pretty sloppy with the ball. in fact, bassett could have very easily won that ballgame.
  23. i knew who you meant...haha. i was just giving you a little friendly grief. it's actually MAVAHI. unfortunately the game atmosphere isn't nearly what it used to be at the doghouse these days either. Hail our glorious Alma Mater dear, Long may she lead the way; And courage, faith and truth, her red and white display. Long may scholars grow in wisdom, athletes nobly vie; Bring home each victory to honor Mavahi. Ever will our thoughts return to thee When school days here are past; As fleeting time reveals those values that will last. Courage, faith, and truth remember, friendship tender tie Ever our hearts will glow with love for Mavahi!
  24. where in the heck is Marva High?!?
  25. i'm biased, of course, but martinsville's band is basically the only one i ever pay much attention to. they're loud and they're entertaining. they play recognizable music and will drop the instruments and start dancing at a moment's notice. most bands can hardly be heard from the bleachers. those competition-type bands are way too serious for my tastes...they look like robots on the field and seldom play tunes anyone would ever recognize. as far as the game and the future.....it went about as i expected, although i didn't quite think richlands would score much more than 50. i was wrong. martinsville only loses 5 or 6 guys that played much. they lose the starting qb (which willl hurt the most) and a few guys along both lines.
