I miss Falcon Man and Southbound.

Virginia High baseball and Richlands football are very altruistic in finding these poor, abandoned teenagers that have no school to go to, and allowing them to even compete on their teams

Indefinite suspension, and dismissal from the team if any conviction (including plea deal reduction) stands. Reassess for the following season, if the player desires to return.

Hacker got a reaction from Ryan4VT in My thoughts of Graham and Richlands
The crowd looked to me to be about 7,500. I thought it was a good competitive game, and that Graham's receivers got a case of dropsy in the second half. Landon Lowe did on the football field to Graham the same thing he did on the basketball court in the Conference Championship.
I would love to see a rematch.

i have a different seat, so my perspective is different. I have found that boys can be less mature at a given age than girls. An extra year does not hurt them. It is usually better if it happens at the elementary level. (Texas has a trend of "Red Shirting," where parents hold boys out of Kindergarten for maturity.) Holding back a kid for academics is usually a losing proposition.
I am not a fan of holding back for sports, but it is something that goes one

With regard to the 4-5 year old angle, there are all kinds of factors working behind the scenes. My youngest son has a November birthday, so technically we "held him back" from starting kindergarten until he was 5 years old (turning 6 that year). Our primary motivator was that he and my second-oldest are only 19 months old apart in age and we figured a gap year between them would give us a little bit of breathing room if and when they go on to college.
We're also facing the maturity angle at the other end of the spectrum, since our school system is really pushing kids into "Early College" programs with a hard sell. My oldest is currently a 9th grader, but because of the way the curriculum is structured he already has about 12 credits toward an Advanced Studies diploma. While we do think that a college education will serve his best interest (and that will probably even include some kind of post-baccalaureate degree), my wife and I don't see much value in dumping him into the work world at a young age with relatively high credentials but no experience. So we're going to be forced to "pump the brakes" by enrolling him in AP courses his junior and senior years.
The world of education sure has changed a lot in the last 25+ years. And it continues to evolve.

Hacker got a reaction from 1inStripes in The Dark Side of Title IX
Here are the reasons that I have mixed feelings:
When it comes to athletes, University police, and local PDs have reputations in some communities for looking the other way or less than thorough investigations. (Deserved or not. Read the NYT article about the Tallahassee PD.) So the legal system is cut off in some places. Also when the accusation becomes public, the victim is the one put through the meat grinder of scrutiny and blame.
On the other hand the Title IX procedures are being run by folks who are not trained police investigators, and have a Star Chamber secretiveness to them.
Neither situation seems suited for finding out what actually happened and providing justice.
I will have to add "The Hunting Ground."

How to put this tactfully...
Corporations such as those will not put franchises in locations that cannot produce enough reliable workers to ensure the franchise's operation.

Hacker got a reaction from Francisjen in New Athletics Font for VT?
I think from a Tweet I saw from Babcock was that there was concern about the amount of creep there had been in logos, designs and fonts. This brings things back to a single unified look. He did not that they had licensed the old style VT, and mentioned that the original colors were black and gray. He could be hinting at a throwback look.

I have hit some 100 yd shots on putt putt courses. It really is a challenge to hit wedge like shots with a putter.

Yeah, some folks game improves dramatically when $$$ are involved. Others can't deal with the pressure a few $$$ add.

You can hit 100 bad shots in a row, ready to quit and sell your clubs, then hit one perfect shot and you're back in love...

I took bowling for my college P.E. credit. Made a D. My inconsistency killed me. Our final average determined our grades. I rolled a 160 and a 60 for my final two games.
Observer: Boneless wings are NOT wings.
