I'm sure Davis will do a great job, maybe if he can give them a few years at the helm, it will get them steered back in the right direction.  He has a lot of time in the County and you have to wonder how many more years he's going to work in the school system, so there's that.  Maybe they can bring one of the younger coaches along for the long haul.  They need some stability and somebody who can get the kids to come out and buy in.  I don't think they have a tremendous pool of athletes to choose from right now, so it will most likely be a rough road for a few years, regardless of who is coaching.  I wish him luck, he certainly has his work cut out for him.  Anybody expecting a quick turn around will probably be disappointed.  It will take time to re-build the program.

Not sayin that your wrong, but our school board candidates where up for re-election and they both ran unopposed. So, maybe instead of the constant online bashing, throw your hat in the ring and run for a seat, now that could actually shake things up.

Love the back and forth on this subject.  In this political charged county we call home, the coach decision will henge on connections rather than talent or experience.  That's a sad situation, but in reality it's the situation that has been created by the political machine within TCSB.  To often we have seen some erratic moves from this school board in hiring and firing to even think they will try to do what is best for the program.  IMO Aaron Lowe would have been a good replacement, but alas the TCSB political machine decided to remove him from the coaching position the held against all the protest from the parents of the players and fans of the team.  True we may never know what went on in that situation, but we do know his players respected him, and the results speak for themseves.  TCSB does not and will never listen to any input from this board, the players, the parents, or the fans.  In the end they will pick the person that has the best connection to the Board members, so don't be surprised if its someone you would never pick in a million years, with no experience in coaching, but oh man, what a political connection they have with the Board.

    Valid question.
Who’s lined up to step in as the basketball HC when Ronnie gets the football job? He’s been know to just walk off and leave a bunch of kids before the season is over, or in this case, even started.

I totally agree with your perspective. I've heard several coaches say no one knows their Xs and Os better than Dennis Vaught.

Absolutely. I've said this for years. Yes, the cleats thing and really ugly personal choices when he was still not even 36 years old and that doesn't excuse it, but many either forgot or don't know the brain power of this cat on the field/xs and os. I've seen a many of em because I'm older, and I haven't seen any at the HS level better than Vaught. I've seen a many of em just as good, but not better. Said this for years, an absolute "Field Wizzard" for HS football. Again, me talking about his on field coaching ability and a justification for his behavior are entirely 2 different things.

Well scratch that. He did apply. Apparently there were several applicants. Back to my original pick. I bet it will be Davis.
I dont see any of these other coaches from the schools that have been mentioned leaving programs for an 0-10 school

He made some tough kids and fielded some great football teams for sure.  Not one kid spoke when he was addressing us, the respect we had for that man. You had to be tough, we played in that field after it had been cut and I remember the stalks would cut you wide open if you hit them right. Every practice started with “To the fence”.  Man, I wonder how many miles I ran down to the fence and back.  Then you’d do six inches and you’d better be “beatin’ your belly” the whole time.  Lol.
What a privilege to be coached and taught by that man.  Some serious talent played in the valley….Larry Perry, Mike Compton, Bryian Beavers, and Gary Ward to name a few. It was a unique blend of Tazewell and Richlands kids.  I wouldn’t have traded that experience for playing for anyone else, including my own family.

Mr. Sayers was a giant of a man.  My neighbor for years, and his kids my friends.  I can remember traveling down the valley and see the BV Tigers in the field practicing across from his house.   I have in my possession a beautiful carving of a boot he made,  given to me by his children after his death.  He and his wife were wonderful down-to-earth people.  Sadly he passed with ALS.

What is so hard to see that if you split those teams and have four instead of two, there will still be plenty of players and this will help the Middle School and High School programs.  Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. No wonder the high school program is suffering.  I just hate it for the kids, who are loosing out on some great experience that could change their life.

Winning all games may be a goal for some, but the majority just wants to see good competion.  If a team looses in a close game, you can always blame the ref's, lol, but if a team looses every game and most by blow outs, well that's a different story.  I've seen years when Richlands only won 2 or 3 games back in my time, but the fans still supported the team because of the effort of the coaches and players.  One year, if I remember correctly, Richlands only beat Gate City, Tazewell and Marion, which was odd, but by the fans reaction, you would have thought they had won the Super Bowl.  I think the fans have every right to cry bloody murder for what has happened these past two years, and although the HC is a good guy it still falls on his leadership.  Hope everyone has a great and wonderful Thanksgiving.

That definitely explains running it then. I think some people just want to hate on Tarter, period. Personally, I’d walk away given all the negative energy some ex coaches are causing but I don’t think Tarter won’t abandon those boys like Wells.

I personally think Tarter is doing the best he can with what he's got. They're steadily improving & it's not a knock on the players, they're obviously working hard, it's just not a talent loaded team as in past years. I'm really not understanding all the hate directed at Tarter from some on this board.

Bluefield is 1-4 and has lost 3 of those games by a combined 9 points. -14 PD on the year after tonight.

Richlands is 1-4 and hasn’t played a competitive ballgame since Week 1. -100 PD after tonight.

Big difference in the teams behind those records. Neither team should be celebrating much of anything regardless

Lots of negativity from the Blues all over the field. They gave up after the first drive. Possibly the worst coaching staff I've ever saw in Richlands.

We did NYC that year 😂😂. Then it dropped to around 85. And we hovered between 85-95 the rest of my time.

My freshman year, the Richlands band had 124 members… in a school with around 750ish students. That’s a wild percentage.
